Start the back swing and let the body flow as you move and then the ball will be flying towards the target. Thanks Dan. I am playing again after 11 years away because of hip replacements and other pains. I am swinging better than I ever have and I just turned 66 Dec. 1. It doesn't go as far as it used to, but because of your videos I have learned to allow my body to move and I do not try to force anything as I used to, I let it flow with feel and it is amazing! Thanks Dan, you are a brilliant teacher.

I want to thank you for your explanation of the golf swing. I have watched many videos from many instructors and every one always felt like a quick fix. Although that works for a while and then my flaws take over again. The one thing I was certain of was my best shots felt effortless and as if my body followed the club. I really I didn't know what I actually did during my best shots. It was hard to repeat when it seemed like an accident. Since I came a cross your videos with Be Better and Mr Short game everything finally clicked and i realized my thoughts and feelings were interupting a good shot. I have been playing for 25 yrs off and on and being a type "A" personality I am either allin for perfection or not at all. With your concept I can now focus on this and hopefully maximize my game. At my best I was a 12 to 14 hcp and now my game is not so good. Thanks

Thanks for sharing! Yes, there are no quick fixes. Motor skill development takes a lot of repetition over a relatively long time. Truly knowing what causes a golf swing is essential in keeping your efforts moving in the right direction!

@@danmartingolf thanks for your response. I purchased the pro so that I can learn to feel my best swings and learn how to repeat them. Thanks again

Dan, can you talk more about where Dave is adding force? And, is the best way to learn to swing the club like you swing your PRO, to start with shorter motions like Dave? I think I know the answer 👍to that! Thanks, Tim

Sure - Dave applies force by trying to pull his arms in towards his body on early downswing then immediately responds with a slight casting force against the club to make it swing into the ball. This force applied tends to make him tilt backwards in an effort to not lose balance. On the better swings, he allows his arms and the club to unfold naturally - much like the PRO teaches us. 2nd question - it really depends on the player and what their tendencies are. If you swing the PRO with a decent level of mastery, then you have incredible clues into how your body should be moving to create a great swing. You certainly could work in shorter motions to transfer your skills.

Dan, I bought the Pro and it has helped. I use it at range and before playing to try to get a feel for tempo and how to swing the whole club. I have two concerns. First, grip pressure. When I swing the Pro I have to use very light pressure. When I swing a club I need to have a more grip to control the club. Otherwise, I don’t have control of the club at the top and other issues arise. Can you do a video or provide some tips on how to adjust grip pressure? Many thanks. Second, when the ball is in heavy rough or a bad lie, do you recommend using more force? Please provide some tips about bad lies, etc. Thanks.

It is ok to hold the golf club firmer as long as your wrist joints and shoulder joints are supple. If your grip pressure is correct you will feel that you "control" the club with your motion, not by trying to feel the weigh of the clubhead. In fact, if you can feel the clubhead's weight on the forward swing, you are resisting the acceleration of the club. Also, remember that the pro is a VISUAL tool - if all components are in a straight line, then you know exactly how you must teach your body to move with the golf club. As for heavy rough, you don't want to apply leverage force to the club, but you may need to hold more firmly as the heavy grass will tend to close the clubface depending on how thick it is prior to ball contact. It's important to remember that force applied to the club slows it down, which isn't good for chopping through the rough!
