I am using Yehlex LJB racket and BG 65 string. Yes it is important to use quality racket but I put more weight to the skills and and strength of fingers and forearm and wrist power over the racket. If you have skill and strength then you can still produce good shots with bit of poor racket but you can not do the other way round. Lee

That is perfact choice of service. That way you can reduce his strength. I would do same as you are doing. Lee

Try not to push too much or try to win a point with it. Normally player make too long flick because of the intention to get point from it. You can aim to centre corner or the wider corner. Lee

I think it is less likely caused by lack of your power but more likely caused by skill you are using. Try to find a box of send hnad shuttlecocks and go to the court and spend one hour practicing your service. 9 out of 10 times you will be able to find out the way to flick longer by your self. Please try and let me know. Lee

If you play Mixed then you should do flick to opponent lady player. If you do level doubles then you have to see where your opponent is standing to recieve your service. If he is standing very close to the service line then you should flick to see how he respond. Lee

Yes grip is right. When you set to serve your grip should be 2 tention out of 10. Just before the contact the tention should be 6-7 out of 10. Some may do 0 out of 10 at the seting and as they hit they grip 8 or 9 out 10. I do not think it is good. Lose control of racket and power in this way and resulting pushing the shuttlecock rather then sharp tap. Lee

I do not think it is because of finger power. It is the timing of hit and timing of using your finger power. Try to looking at your skill and change some different ways to do it. You may push it rather then tap it. Instead of short tap you may try to hit too hard and end up pushing it. Please try again. Lee

Coach Lee, what can I do to improve the power of my flick serve to get it high and far to the back in singles? In doubles play it is fine because I am serving at the line and only going to the back service line, but in singles because I need to cover more court after the serve I usually stand about two feet behind the service line. Because of this my flick serve is often too flat, easy to cut off, and only goes to the doubles service line which gives me very little time to prepare. Thank you.

Hello Coach Lee, what grip do I have to use for the flick serve? Backhand grip with thumb pressing against the wide side of the handle? How relaxed should my grip be at the beginning of the motion and immediately before and at the moment of contact?

Then, the key is when you are going to hit the shuttle, turn the racket a little so it would be looking the oponent's roof??

I m still always amazed by your finger s strengh .May I ask you with what kind of racquet/string/tension are you playing Lee? It doesn't seem like you use a head heavy racquet to get such a speed . Am I wrong? I got a Z Force and for the forehand it s well ok low and flick also but ont he backhand to reproduce a flick serve as you can produce jezz I should be flash gordon to generate such speed with such a head heavy balance.
