Master lee.. I am playing badminton for last 1 year and I recently started watching your clips. I thought I knew things because I trained myself good jump smashes and cross drops and won a club tournament, but your videos are eyeopener for me that there is so much I need to learn before I can even call myself a intermediate player. Thank you very much for these videos. I really appreciate the way you explain each angle of exercise which really leaves no doubt in mind at all. I'll continue to learn and improve with your help. Thanks again for all your effort.

Hi Coach Lee, Thanks very much for the numerous wonderful videos. I watch the videos religiously and my game has improved a lot. THis video is great because it covers one aspect of the game I have been thinking about lately (the eyes). I have a tangential question to the video but it is still concerned with the movement of the eyes and I hope you would help me with this. At exactly what moment in the rally do we observe where the opponents are standing on the court to decide on our reply shot for the best placement ? Should the shot selection be instinctive and second nature to us or is it actually a thought process that goes on in our brain in the short time that the bird is hit by the opponent and the bird reaches us ? Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Right now, when I play it takes too much time for me to reach the bird, observe where the opponent is standing in the opposite court and place my shot in the most difficult spot for him and my reply shot is mostly predictable.

Thank you very much for your kindest comment and I am very pleased to know. You have a very important question which many players are wondering about. I am planning to record next week and I shall make clips for it. There are two ways to see your opponent and select shots with it. 1. You can actually able to see him when you are taking at the net areas and middle court areas and when you are not under pressure. At this time you are able to see the shuttlecock and opponent and opponent court same time and you select a shot. You can train it. 2. You use the picture in your brain and slect a shot. When your opponent attack your rear court then your eyes has to follow the shuttlecock and most time you can not see your opponent. In this case you must focus on the picture you have at the time your opponent was making the shot. Your opponent's last hitting action, movement action should be in your memory in your brain. Based on that you select your shot. Also you know where he normally be ready from the beginning of the match. You collect all the information in such shot time and select the shot. I will explain more in the clip next week. Once again thank you very much for your good question. Lee

Dear Lee, first I want to thank you for your videos, you greatly improved my badminton game. I also play recreational tennis and I must ask you one thing: What you teach here is (in my honest opinion) exact opposite to what tennis teacher teach you when playing tennis. Almost everybody tends to move eyes from the ball too early, causing head moving to early, pulling entire body and resulting with often mishit. So they always emphasize that old "WATCH THE BALL" mantra. I know that tennis and badminton are different in many aspects (I still struggle not to play badminton with wide - the whole arm - not using much wrist movement), but in this issue of "watching the ball" I don't think there should be difference. Am I wrong? Sorry if I ask stupid question, and thank you again for your kindly sharing your huge knowledge on the game. regards, damir from croatia
@coachingbadminton9 жыл бұрын
Dear Damir Thank you very much for your kind comment on my clips. For the eys moving issue, I do fully understand your point. I also fully agree on the points you have made which is too early moving your eyes can cause such problems and it will be same is badminton and yes I do not think it should be different. The point I am stressing on this clips is the timing of moving your eyes to the area you are hitting. If you move your eyes too early then it will cause the problems. In same way if your eys remain too long on the impact point then you will loose accuracy and speed of realy action for opponent attack. In conclusion, you need to move your eyes just right time which not too early nor not too late just before the impact so your impact will not be influenced. You can try this and feel. Move your eyes let say 0.5 sec just before the impact and next time you move your eyes 0.2 sec just before the impact and you move your eyes 0.5 sec after the impact. I very much hope you could experience the points I have made. Have a very happy day. Lee

+「PLSDONT EATME™」 In both of those sports you have a racquet in your hand and you have to hit a flying object with it. So, I honestly think that there is no harm in comparing badminton with tennis when we talk about timing issues. Lee didn't seem to have a problem with my question, if you do, please accept my apology.
@coachingbadminton8 жыл бұрын
Dear Damir I am very sorry that I have missed your comment and just now I have seen it. I do understand your point but I have to say that in this issue I believe it is same between badminton and tennis. As I explained in this clip, if player turn his eyes bit too early then he will have the problem you have mentioned on your first comment. It will be same as in badminton. If a player watch the ball/shuttlecock too long then he will lose much time to get ready for next attack. So I am talking about the right time to move player's eyes. Not too early nor not to late. In badminton more players are watching the shuttlecock too long. I really would like you to try both ways to feel it. I would like to thank you for forwarding your point honest way and I do respect it. We all learn form each other and thank you for your in put. Lee

+Coaching Badminton Dear Lee, Yes I think you and me understood each other on your first answer to my initial question. My second comment was a reply to PLSDONT EATME™ who suggested me not to waste your time with such a questions, comparing badminton with tennis. Again, I thank you for your time and effort, I am really appreciate that huge knowledge that you share in such kind and unselfish way. Wish you all the best.

Great video but by looking at the placement of the shuttle at the same time, doesn't that give the opponent an advantage because they can easily predict the path of the shuttle because of your body language?
@coachingbadminton8 жыл бұрын
I can see your point and it makes logical sense. The reason I have is that the time difference between your eyes moves to the target just before you made shot is really short. I do not feel this will show your opponent direction and allow him to see the point your are hitting. Even the point you made here is partly true, I feel doing this has much more benefits then not doing it. It will be more accurate and your ready and recovery will be much faster. This is my opinion but I will study more on the point you made which is a very good point. Lee

coach sir can you tell me how we need to practice daily only shots ? weekly once a game ? or daily practice game ?
@coachingbadminton8 жыл бұрын
No, it is very much depending on each player and what the player need more. If you are fresh player then you should spend more time on movement and basic shot practice. Depending on your level and depending on how far or how close the competition you are attending, the content of practice will be different. But I would like to add match or similar to match training on each sessions or each day(if you do more then one session a day). Lee

Hi coach lee, often in a match i open the game with lots of mistakes and silly shots, this then puts in in a bad position for the rest of the match. Do you know how to rectify this?
@coachingbadminton8 жыл бұрын
We all have that moment. There is no magic solution for it but practice more and play more. When you know you can do it then you make less mistakes. Everyone will go through this stage. No one will play well without having such time. If you practice more and practice better quality you can make this time shorter. Lee

Please let me know, where have to be concentrated to the opponet while attending a shot or smash, that is, to his arm, arm rist, finger, racket or shuttle and etc. Pls instruct professionally.
@coachingbadminton8 жыл бұрын
You must be able to see all of his body including his racket and shuttlecocks. In this way you will be able to get most information on what he is trying to do therefore what angle he is able to go for. Let say if you are looking at someone in front of you then you see him as whole so if he make a small move on his one finger, you can detect the finger movement. You will not be able to see his finger movement if you just focus on his face or his legs or something he is hollding in his hand. Lee
