The rink is so empty. I am envious. In here it's always packed and also random hockey lovers train next to you which is scary

We are fortunate here to have two year round sheets of ice. I filmed this on an adults only session, so it was nice and quiet. I get it with the hockey players, their style of skating sure doesn’t mix well with figure skating.

At least you have a rink. Where I live we only have outside rinks which off course are only open in winter(usually around christmas time), and they're not maintained that well. So I only get very few skating sessions every year😭 I'm so sad about that.

oh man! I totally get you! in the city next to us is ice ring with public skating in winter months and its always packed! sooo many kids, so many teens playing "catch me" even adult men with kids doing stuping things... worst skating ever when grown ups with kids are skating reclessly around you, not caring if you can stop or if they don´t run under your feet... :( I always loved figure skating... but after mild winters last couple of years there is no other chance to skate, only in hockey rings inside... :(

I am not a teacher but I would share my experience for you to think about. I personally find cross over requires a little more speed, because of the centrifugal force of crossing will put you off balance without speed. (A bike cannot hold a lean if it has no speed.) To be able to start crossing, for a beginner, most of the time, the problem is the inner leg is not on the outside edge. So the pumping movement(drawing lemon) can easily put one to be on the inside edge. So pump but stay on outside edge on inside leg for beginner. Scoping action and change of edge will come after stability is established. And never never rotate your shoulder to square position during crossing. Keep the shoulder like she did it at the end.

Sounds like you have a co-coaching situation going on. 😆 But seriously though, It is alway so good to have someone in person who can really see what you are doing and help fix things on the spot. I am glad I can come alongside and just help with clarification when you need it.

i tried learning it by myself yesterday and people came up to me to help cos i looked like i was struggling 😀 i was too scared to continue practicing cos i was so embarrassed 😭😭😭

One thing I learned from skating is not care about what others think about your skating other wise you won’t practice as much and then you won’t get better keep going so the next time you see them you will be so much better! I don know if you still skate though because this was five months ago…🧡

I agree with the other comment. With piano you can practice in your basement until you get good, then you can blow them away at the old folks home. With ice skating, you unfortunately have to practice in full view of everyone. If you want to make any progress you have to focus on the "keep trying, keep trying" part that will eventually yield success, and ignore any self conscious feelings. If you keep practicing, you will get better.

I am relatively new to figure skating. I am 50 and started taking adult classes in September. I can do the more advanced backward crossovers, but am not comfortable looking backward as I have not really been taught form. I picked up so many good tips from your video and can't wait to get on the ice and practice these moves. I can tell it will take a lot of practice but that's okay. I am also looking forward to watching all of your videos.

Amazing video, thank you! I’ve been stepping one foot over the other so my crossovers were very clunky but this explains a lot 😀

You are so great at explaining and demonstrating how to skate back crossovers. The best training video on the youtube. Thank you so much for your hard work in making this awesome lesson for us to learn. I just subscribed to your channel from watching this vidoe alone.

I'm going skating today! It's only my third time but I'm pumped as (just realised the pun) 😂 so I've been watching these, trying to visualise and remember all I can as I won't have net access. I want to learn the positions and half swizzles at least.
