When someone is teaching themselves to skate, what order should they learn things in? I can do forward skate, forward crossovers, backwards skate, and i'm working on backwards crossovers. What would you recommend trying next and after that? Thank you for the awesome videos x
@tabithaclymer74237 жыл бұрын
simply_kenna two foot turns, maybe 3 turns, power pulls, and beginning two foot spins, backward one foot glides and backward edges, I learned a bunny hop around that time but it's really not necessary and it might be to scary for you

Hello, I just wanted to say this video helped me a lot. I’ve been struggling with backward crossovers for a while now and even when my instructor explains and demonstrates what’s going on it wasn’t clear to me what she was exactly saying or showing. This video really cleared up a lot about what I could do to improve. They aren’t perfect, but I just went to the rink to do some practice and there was a major improvement compared to before. So, thank you. This video helped a lot. :)

I would think it could be used for roller skating. It's the same technique I suppose. I mean I learned how to do forward crossovers by doing them in roller blades
@elizabethhiggs17337 жыл бұрын
roller and ice skating are very similar so I think so just try to change the movement for 4 wheels instead of one blade.

I was quite good at backward crossovers with hockey skates, as well as doing both forward 3 turns etc. Now I've switched to figure skates and I am scraping the ice badly with the lowest toe pick. Could you give any directions how to avoid that, on stature, on which part of the blade should leave the ice (is it under ball of the foot?) etc. It is also quite strange to keep balance, as the blade is curved. But I'm happy with spins, they go much more fluently, than with hockey skates :-D Thank you.

Question - At first, you taught that the arm extended back...to put your thumb up in the air to make sure your shoulder is rotated the right way. Then at 1:09, you start talking about something else and your thumb is pointed down. Are we supposed to only keep the thumb up while we're learning how our shoulder should be? Then we should eventually rotate our hand down?
@ClaireWhoMakesThings9 жыл бұрын

Does anyone have any tips on skating forward with one leg? I started roller skating a few weeks, I'm self taught, and I can't skate on one leg. I can't find the balance. I was wondering if there's any exercises to improve that? Like without the skates on or something :/
@3dmazeXyz8 жыл бұрын
Hi Francisca. Some more time skating regularly and you will find your center of gravity. Try to swing in every stride and don't keep a wide instance all the time. When you keep a wide instance your weight is in the middle while your objective is actually to change the weight from one foot to another. First position is narrow, second position is wide and you must switch between both of them. When you start strides are short and that is how everyone learns, as you get more confidence you will swing better and strides will be longer. That will allow you to stay on one leg. I suggest you check Asha Kirkby videos, she has roller skating and roller blading tutorials.

Some couches say that you should lift the right foot and then cross it over but in this video the couch doesn’t lift his foot he just pushes it
@xxXThinIceXxx3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what level you are, for beginners i always teach to lift the foot but as they advance it is better to leave it on the ice.
