Excuses for not hitting it long: 49 year Office worker, family man weekend warrior. Oh I also live in Canada. Really though the main reason for not hitting long i think for me is fear. I have been working with my Pro. to control my swing and find more fairways. When I let go I get booming slices and duck hooks. I guess I just need to rty new stuff and don't take it to the course until it is solid.

Hi David! I’m also in Canada. You mentioned fear in your sentiment which I totally understand because I purposely swing my clubs slow. What has helped me to move past the fear is practicing certain drills in your swings which give you the most discouragement. My weaknesses include early extension and lack of flexibility. I’m 42 and have a history of pain problems, so I know my limits. Hope this helps

thanks for the video just subbed, been stuck at 200 yards for ages, ''ages'' i say, only started playing around december though but something is for sure off with me and these tips look pretty spot on. Its amazing how often tips for extra yardage almost always include going against what you are typically shown how to play golf, like... i didn't even consider keeping my back leg straight for more rotation, it just goes against everything ive been told to this point which is keeping that slight bend in the legs. I know there is more yardage in me because im a pretty big strong fella, comfortably 50kg on you but it goes to show you how much you can lose from poor technique. thanks again cant wait to put these tips into practice.

I’ve already followed your earlier tips on release/hand path/swinging the butt of the club (I realised I was swinging my body, not the club head) and also the extra hip turn after your lesson with Shaheen, Oh, and the ‘no backswing’ drill (that one, for me, is an absolute game changer). So I thought I’d improved on the range. I took it to the course on Tuesday and consistently drove the ball an extra 30 yards carry (120 max to an easy 150). As a 58 year old female golfer I think that’s pretty good! 😲 Now I’m going to try the last tip in this video, and see if I can squeeze a few more out. I’m 5’11” and 65Kg, but I’ve never understood how to use my height and flexibility before and actually transfer my effort to the ball. Can’t thank you enough, Coach. I wish I still lived in Devon and could come to you for an actual lesson, or at least thank you in person! 😎

So I watched your video and found it quite interesting. The straightening of your back leg is new. Question: Given that there is supposed to be a transfer of weight from the lead foot to the inside of the back foot on the back swing, how does one use the back leg to start the transfer of the weight and momentum from the back leg to the front leg? Also, I have tried to lengthen my back swing as per your video and find that I can't seem to hit it any farther than if I use a shorter swing...even when I hit it on the screws. Why would this be and how would I correct this? Thanks. Again...interesting video. Thanks for posting.

Lots of tips to keep Right/trail leg slightly bent, but if you don't rotate your hip more to the target it doesn't matter. Your tip is right on for 80% of golfers, straighten the leg to prevent slide, more turn and the ability to put more force in the lead leg earlier in the swing. When you finally fix those starting errors then you may be ready to keep a little bend. Thoughts?

Summer where I am and my goal at the beginning of summer was to break par. I'm a 7.6 hcp. I went out recently and was -4 on the front nine with 4 straight birdies to end the nine and thought I was on course to achieve my goal. BUT! Back nine, the driver abandoned me. Started hitting high, weak slices. Like 40-50m shorter (and to the right) of my normal drives. I'm normally a pull drawer and kind of rely on that. I guess I got inside my own head. So I went to the range the next day, driving was back to normal. But out on the course the following day. Driving was weak and to the right again! Any thoughts on the mental aspect? It doesn't really matter how tall or heavy your are. By far, the most important part of hitting a golf ball well is KNOWING WHAT DIRECTION TO SWING THE CLUB. And no, a circle is not a direction. By trying to swing in a circle, as most people are attempting to do, it's nearly impossible to get the speed into the club when and where we need it. Humans think in linear terms and although this idea seems counter-intuitive, there is literally no way to swing a club that doesn't result in a circular arc no matter how linear you attempt to swing it. The golf club is an amazing tool of engineering when used properly. It’s a lever, not a stick, like a baseball bat.
