I bumped into this video yesterday and decided to implement this on the range today. I was blown away by the results. Unfortunately a heavy rain came, I got soaked and I had to stop and take refuge in a covered range cart. When I was able to resume I couldn't replicate it again as well. Came home, re-watched the video, and I am fairly certain I see where I was going wrong. So that and the fact that I was drenched was my problem I believe. I am now starting in on all your other videos since this one made such a huge difference. With this video being 4 plus years old you probably won't get this message, but if you do, THANK YOU!!! You definitely earned this subscriber.

Steve, First of all, thanks for your willingness to share your passion and expertise. You have an amazing gift. Overall, my game is reasonably solid (8 handi) but suffer from some inconsistency issues. Most pronounced with driver. Good distance but occaisional hooks and blocks. Knew that something was likely wrong in my fundamentals/set up. Watched this video the other day. It made so much sense that I practiced it a bit at home, without a club...liked how it felt "different enough" and straightened out my down the line alignment immediately. Had the opportunity to play golf yesterday evening with my wife who I play with regularly and sees my game every weekend - good and bad. About three holes/drives in, she looks at me and goes, "What did you change???". She couldn't pick up what I had done (implemented your set up tweaks) but was watching me hit bombs straight down the middle of every fairway. It was that dramatic and happened that quickly. As you mentioned in your video, the same technique/approach worked beautifully for irons as well. Playing golf later today with "the guys" and am looking forward to seeing their faces...same guy, same driver, same "basic" swing, just a better set up/starting position. I cannot thank you enough. This one tip is a game changer. To everyone on here that I will not compete against nor bet with, please follow Steve's advice. To my golf buddies, "move along, nothing to see here..."

Ok I had to comment because I rarely see results after 1 day on the range, I’m a 6.2 index and 58 years old my normal drive is 230-240 carry with 10 to 15 yards of run, a big drive for me is 270. I followed the explanation and after 30 balls I was feeling comfortable with maybe a 5 yard gain, however 9 out of 10 were straight. After another 30-40 balls I was carrying the 250 marker on at least 50%. I remained straight throughout in fact I hit the 250 marker at least 3 times. So I can say with another 50 balls my carry was around 10 yards longer but my straight ball efficiency was drastically improved. So I’m very pleased and surprised by the outcome. For reference I hit a ping g400 with a 3 1/4 tee. Again a superb video for me

I've tried many tips for various KZbin teachers and found myself I'm the same place after two years. After returning from a disappointing golf trip in Phoenix driving the ball 170- 200 total yards I reluctantly tried your set tips. On my first swing I carried the ball 230 - 242 total. On my 10th swing I carried 253 - 271 total with a 98.5mph clubhead speed. I am in disbelief still but can't wait for my next round with the guys. Thanks Steve not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined this was possible!

Thank you for this! After watching hundreds of videos telling me to “drop your right shoulder”, this is the first one I’ve seen that explains how this affects your hands and therefor the swing path. Not only that but I always felt uncomfortable “dropping the shoulder” as I was bending my spine. The hip shift allows me to keep my spine straight and still fix that swing path! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thanks very much for your teaching!! I am now hitting it longer and straighter. This video has made a significant difference. I have read many books, seen 100's of videos and taken expensive lessons. My handicap has been 10 - 12 and is now dropping with several scores from 76 - 82 after applying your (and Mike Austin's) principles. I have recommended your site and videos to all my friends. The simple setup with the left arm straight, but not rigid, the left hip bumped slightly toward the target and the right knee bent is a prescription for success. For me, I need to take the club back more vertically, pause at the top/transition (a "Nod to the Gods" from the movie "Tin Cup") and then swing with loose wrists, throwing the clubhead. The straight line release (from Clay Ballard and others) is also very helpful. I am very appreciative for your teaching efforts. They have added pleasure to my golf game. Best wishes,

I've tried dozens of tips from the internet. In truth, none really work for any length of time. I've tried this on all full shots for 2 rounds and for me, it works! My drives and fairway woods are definitely straighter (I'm a fader/slicer). Hitting irons well too. I wouldn't say I've gained distance (I know I hit down on driver!) but definitely straighter. This is my 1st comment and I'm leaving it to thank Steve for sharing this. For the moaners, this content is free and if you don't like it, just scroll on! You try too hard buddy. All this do this do that. Here's a tweak there's a tweak stuff is nonsense. They're all just making money getting you to do little bullvrap changes. Feel comfortable and just smack golf balls however feels right. Your body is better than you are at swinging. Go to a batting cage and hit baseballs, that will help probably. That's it though. Make it work. Fuck all this tweaking ass make this little tweak shit.

Wow. I went out today and took your tips to the course. It’s amazing how much it helped me keep the ball in the fairway as well as adding about 25 to 30 yards to my drives. I highly recommend this video to anyone who has issues getting off the Teebox. I hit some bombs today and didn’t even know it until I got up there and looked and it was like 30 yards further than where I was looking for my ball. One of my tee shots I thought had too much height on it and it ended up being a 299 Drive. Amazing!

Bingo Steve. My high school golf coach (I graduated in 1960) had me cocking the right knee at address just as you've indicated. This got me hitting up with the driver. Your system has a much more complete explanation of how this simple tweak can work. I'm 78 and still hit it out there pretty well (240-260) but I'm going to update my ideas with your help and see if I can't get a few more yards. I watched this video yesterday and decided to put it into practice today. It was fairly windy which accentuates my slice when it's off the left. Not today, I regularly hit straight drives and even managed a few with a draw. Distance wise I did appear to gain several yards on normal and I was hitting the ball out of the centre of the face much more often. This is an excellent tip that really works, thank you so much.

♣♠♦♥ AMAZING!!! I have been searching for this feeling for so long. I call it the slot. I'd find it every now and then, and loose it quickly. I ran across this video & gave it a shot. The set-up "Freak'n Puts Me In the Slot" that I have been searching for for years..... I'd always find it by accident and loose it like I said, but NOW.... I Know how to find it! And this video has opened my eyes to so many set-up flaws that had become comfortable and I'd just play to a shorter and shorter game. I was actually thinking I was getting Fxxxn old. Now I'm hitting the sweet spot more consistent and I'm in that power slot where it feels effortless and that ball just Kranks and it's pure. Well that's my story. Thanks so Much Steve. One thing I truly thought a lot about and experimented with in the last few weeks is exactly this move you demonstrated in this video. The reason I started doing this is I was slicing all of my drives. I was hitting my other clubs OK but I felt I had to radically change something for my drive so I watched several "Jack Nicklaus "Golf My Way" videos. Nicklaus stressed the need for just one swing that would work for all clubs so if a new swing was needed, it would be for every club. I used to position the ball in the middle of my stance but Nicklaus said every shot should be aligned with the left heel or slightly further left for a tee shot. Also my feet spacing should get wider as the club gets longer. When the ball is in the middle of my stance, my shoulders are aligned ALMOST with the target, just very slightly open because my right hand is below my left hand. Except for my driver which is much longer than my other clubs, I could hit straight or with a nice little draw with the ball in that position. But I noticed when I did these things Nicklaus suggested, my shoulders opened way up so they were way left of the target. I was confused about whether that was OK or whether I should do something to close my shoulders. I went to the driving range and rather than pushing and slicing my drives, I was now pulling them and hooking them. And all my other clubs were messed up also. So now I had a bigger problem. I had to do something about my open shoulders. One way to do that was exactly as you mentioned but rather than make that move, stand there in that position. Nicklaus stressed the need to be loose and relaxed but the the more I stand there perfectly still in that awkward position, the more tense I am and the more afraid I am to hit it. So I started doing that move - a little differently but basically the same thing. I start by setting my feet and extending my left arm so the club face is how I want it, just like you do. But I don't like my shoulders being open that much . So before I put my right hand on the club, I put the handle back so its positioned in the middle of my body. This way my shoulders are aligned the way they would be if the ball was in the middle of my feet, the way they used to be. I let my arms relax and put the tip of the club head between my left foot and the ball, just behind the ball. The club face points well left of the target because the handle is in the middle of my body and the club head is close to my left foot. The bigger the club, the wider my feet are, so the more open the club face. But my shoulders are only slightly open, just like they used to be. Before I start my backswing , I do the move. I straighten my left arm and move the handle to the left to push the club head forward and square it with the ball. At the exact same time, I turn my right knee in and drop my right shoulder so my head does not move forward (I am not seeing a moving ball). This keeps my shoulders aligned exactly the same as before I made the move - just slightly open. I think this move is basically the same re I am now smashing my drives into the middle of the net at the driving range whereas before I have never been able to even reach the net on the fly AND my drives are going straight. So you are right about all this, thank you!. I am also doing this move on every club because I followed Nicklaus's advise about positioning the ball off my left heel on every shot. It's the same move but it is a bigger for bigger clubs. With a little pitch shot, my feet are very close together so there is no move at all.

Me watching this video: Ok here is the next tip I'm gonna try and waste some time with. I've been a massive slicer for some 10 years now and struggle to hit the fairway every 16-20 holes once. Me 5 mins after the range session: THANK YOU!!!!!!!! You have changed my life 🤣. Just hit 80 balls following this video and didn't hit a single slice. Mostly straight, some light draws and about 5 hooks. Tried my old setup and boom 6 slices in a row. For me this worked and I can't thank you enough. I've been taking lessons for 10 years and had small improvements during and sometimes a round after the lesson, but nothing close to this. I even tried just swinging myself out of my shoes but it still goes straight. Thank you again!! Oh yeah gained distance as well 🤣 no idea how much exactly coz our range ends at 240y and they all went over the end 😆

Steve... This is one of the most fruitful tutorials I've seen online. This change immediately made a drastic change in my consistency and distance. For years I always just tilted my shoulders away vs. shifted and bumped my hips forward. I've been taking lessons for years and I've always had to focus on my driver because I just couldn't get any consistency with it. This tutorial just illustrates that if concepts aren't fully understood, it could lead you down some dark, club snapping paths.

Even with adjusting my grip so i can draw the ball it wasn't working. It was frustrating. I watched your video time after time and went to practice. I couldn't believe how much further i was hitting my driver and I started drawing the ball too. It was a game changer for me. You could get another 20 yards. Great video !!!!! Super way to place the hips. I started doing it like you, but with both hands on the grip tought (skiping a step). Then I played your swing on slowmo to really see what you did, and I think that you can hit it 2O yards further if you keept the hedge of the left hip as you turn (seeing the same background behind ) rather than sliding your hips to the right as you pick he club up in your back swing. So if you put a line on your left hip, try to keep your left hip on that line through the whole back swing. You would generate way more power and still hit is strait. The consequence of moving the hips makes you have a strait spine at the top of your backswing. If you freeze your swing at the top, your spine is strait. (You can still load up the right side and have weight transfert to the right foot in the back swing without moving the hips right) Sp there will be two major changes. First you will have more coil a the top of your swing thus the 20 yards extra. but also you back will be less strained. So no heavy lower back feeling if you play 4 days in a row.

This video seemed to be going nowhere at first , just being honest. But I’m glad I kept watching because this advice is really good. I used to do this and lost my way this season resulting in a lot of over the top pulls. This is why. My shoulders started to be open at set up. So word to the wise - watch the entire video. It makes perfect sense in the end.

I used to do this as well. I have vivid memories of hitting up on the ball and nailing them so straight. Now the past 2 months I'm doing nothing but slicing drives. I need to get back into this habit so I stop getting so angry when I use my driver

Used to be a good player as a young adult, but haven't played much over the last twenty years or so. Just utilized this tip for the first time today. First swing was rough and for the rest of the round the driver was more consistently long and straight than it's been in years. Can't tell you how grateful I am that I stumbled upon this video. Thanks, Steve!

Great video Steve. I implemented your steps to my driver practice on Saturday 14 November 2020. I documented each ball flight and recorded my swing speed with the swing speed radar. I could only estimate distances to a flag that I lased with my bushnell that read 237yds. I hit 15 range balls. My swing speed average was 93mph. I hit 2 hooks, 1 slice, 1 pull fade, and 2 push draws with all others going straight. The shortest distance I estimated was about 190 (since there was a marker at 185yds and the ball landed past that so it was a 5 yd estimation). However, the consistent distance was around 230ish since the ball landed between the 225 yd marker (verified with my bushnell laser range finder) and the 237yd pin. The point is this technique worked for me. I have always had a strong grip and I thought my set up was good but would either hit a weak fade or slice and couldn't figure out why. After applying your technique and changing my setup, I realized how much I had been coming over the top. Your setup encourages keeping my head centered and behind the ball when releasing the club through and up on the ball rather than at the ball with a closed club face! Brilliant! I am a 14 handicapper and look forward to taking this to the course. Thanks Steve! PS. I use the orange whip for timing and tempo...a must for using your technique IMHO. Cheers!

That's great! Keep it up as 93 mph should yield even more yardage than that!

@@Inmotion70 yeah well...range balls on a shaggy driving range (no mowing because of swampy conditions since ETA here in Tampa Florida...)

Been really struggling with my driving (I mean shockingly bad) so went to the range and gave this a whirl. Absolutely mind blowing how much better I started to drive the ball. Never been the longest of hitters but this has easily added 35-40 yards, even had one of the pros comment on how well I was hitting driver ;-)

I watched this video, and followed your instruction. I was a chronic slicer for years. I now hit the ball dead straight, and have conquered my nemisis creek by 30 to 40 yards. The change was so simple to incorporate, it only took me an hour or so to put it to work. I can't tell you the difference it's made to my game. Putting the ball consistently in the fairway takes much pressure off my approach shots to the green. Thanks for your help!

Hi Steve, you said early in the video that you like one setup only. Does this setup apply to drivers, irons and hybrids?
@hep53cat2 жыл бұрын
Much more subtle set up adjustments! I do this with my irons but will apply it with driver since my misses are the duck hook you described when I get stuck under and rotate the face closed. Thanks!

Thank you! This brought back swing memories from 20 years ago when I implemented these swing thoughts taught by Mike Dunaway! Playing time diminished due to life, swing inadvertently strayed, and my game suffered! Swing speed was around 118 at that time and playing scratch...Swing speed is 100-105 on a good day now, lucky to break 80 (we won't talk about the short game, lol!). This is gonna help!

@@Inmotion70 okay so today I gave it a try and yes it helped boast my yardage but I am still adjusting to the method. On the ones that I got good contact I have added 10 yards but the best part from it is that I didn’t miss a fairway. Thank you for the lesson, I am going to try and perfect this in the coming rounds.

Fascinating! Of course I am working on my short game with thr Harvey Penick video, but everybody likes that feeling of a long straight drive. I am still using my "Biggest Big Bertha", because the new clubs really did not add distance. Going to try your "tweak" today. It just makes a lot of sense, and may solve a problem I did not even know I had. Thanks for sharing... from your newest subscriber! Paul

This is absolute genius. I've been playing golf for40 years, always fought and over the top move and a low AoA with my driver. It never occurred to me that that problem could be in my initial setup. Can't wait to get to the range later.

Thanks for the suggestion! It’s funny I started adding a bunch of spine tilt and I mean a bunch and realized I was hitting it much farther and straighter. Of course my miss became a hook when I got a bit quick so I put the ball more in the middle of my stance and got a lower ball flight. I can’t wait to try your suggestions of the hips and head to see if I can improve more. Thanks

i was just taught something similar to this.... i knew about pushing the hip forward towards the target, my issue was i pushin it to far, like u said minimal hip movement and your shoulders have the tilt, the one component that was added was keeping my left leg straight, slight flex with the right and irons keeping the right leg straight and slight flex with the left

First... Thank you! I have never heard of this explanation before and it makes so much sense! I believe that this alone will fix what I have needed for years now to cure my slice. It may be simple but it would fix everything that I have been doing wrong resulting in skying some tee shots, hitting the ground behind a tee shot and slicing the ball. And it explains how my shoulders get out of alignment causing me to pick the club up and swing outside in. New subscriber.

I used this tip today at the range today along with the stomp the heel move. It made a huge difference. I didn't feel like I was trying to swing fadter but I was. it was awesome. I am 56 and hurt my back a few years ago and was a scratch golfer at the time. I was putting my back in a awkward postion ina effort to gain distance. I used to lift my heel like Jack did when I was playing my best. By trying to get better and making a swing change I ended up putting too much stress on my back by trying to be compact. Long story short. I hit the ball farther today than I have in about 3 and a half years. I t was effortless with the little pointers you gave in the videos. I hit at a range that is water range, so I know where I normally hit the ball to the targets small islands and boats. The back of the range has a marker going up the hill at the back of the range. The particular marker is 257 yds. I hit a range ball the base of it towars the end of my practice session. I have not been able to get there in a long time. I teed up a few used balls from my golf bag and flew those balls at least 10 yards further. The last ball was probably 15 yards further I carried that last tee shot just over 270 yards. It was amazing. My confidence is back will keep working on the drills and swing. Thanks Kerry

Thanks Steve for all the great information and direction. I have used this setup and not only added distance but am hitting a baby draw with my driver. My only challenge is limited turn back and thru due to a couple back surgeries. Do you recommend moving my right foot back or flaring my feet more to compensate for my limited turn? Thanks!
