This is great. Whenever I play basketball, I love guarding the post against players who look bigger and stronger but slower than me. I didn’t know this before watching the video, but I basically do the Pippen. I never front. I never do the 3/4, because that would mean that you’re staying in pretty constant relative position to the post player. The post player and the entry passer have a pretty hard job. The passer needs to know where to put the ball. The post player needs to be open long enough for the passer and the post player to acknowledge that. I combat that by constantly moving behind the post player while avoiding him pinning me down on either side of him. Entry passes are usually softer than perimeter passes. Catching in the post is all about quick short movements and fine adjustments. It really matters a lot of the pass goes left or right shoulder. Mantle times, the pass is floated in and the post player needs to be in strong enough position and have enough finesse to make fine adjustments to catch the pass. The ball is usually coming much slower. As a quick defender, it’s primed for an interception. The keys are that you need to be free enough to move around the post player so don’t get pinned left or right, and you must be able to see him, the ball, and the passer at all times, so don’t front.

How to avoid reach in foul during The Hakeem Poke?
@ballinboxer36765 жыл бұрын
What? Just go for the ball and don't hit your man's arm. If your arms aren't long enough then simply don't try to poke the ball

Where can we find more video to study the Hakeem poke? There weren't many examples in this video, and they are all pretty grainy.

How to defend floaters or tear drop?
@vinuzo95485 жыл бұрын
That's a positioning issue. If you're dropped back then it's will be impossible to guard the floater. Your best bet is to step up on people that have a floater and drop back on people who don't. However an athletic guard will probably be able to lay the ball on your if you step up so try to force him to help or onto his weak hand so he misses the contested lay.
