Some context, I am an employee of the plant you shown. That bathhouse is actually the “white” bathhouse for the camp. The other building shown around 2:47 was the “black” bathhouse as the upper part of the camp was known as “color town” the concrete footers you see at 2:47 is the old coal tipple foundations for the joint loading Virginian-Chesapeake & Ohio loading track. The Salem church has been marked for preservation where several donation services have been held to gain attention and financial support for the restoration.

My great grandmother's first husband-Jake Broadnax-use to work at TAMS Coal Mining in the early 1910s. He passed away due to a fatal accident during that time.

The church will be preserved because it’s now on the national register of West Virginia historic places
@WebsterHighlanders8 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, being on the register does not guarantee they will be preserved if the owner of the property does nothing. A perfect example of two buildings in West Virginia which have been on the register for a long time are greatly deteriorating to the point now they are beyond preservation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2iwe3aGn6qrh6csi=l9qT9ZJdUjdD4NqX

How much coal do they get out of that coal mining company these days?
@WebsterHighlanders2 жыл бұрын
According to a local resident, the coal preparation plant shown at Tams in this video supplies a coal product to the cosmetics' industry. I was certainly surprised by that, but did some research, and confirmed that the cosmetics' industry still uses coal by-products in certain of their products.

I work at that plant, we do not mine any coal, we grind it in a mill. The powder is used in rubber and industrial applications. We sell to most major tire and rubber companies including Toyo Tire Corp. Bridgestone/Firestone and Carlisle, along with several other manufacturers

Buitiful church. Hope it’s saved

The church is still there, is being restored very slowly, but is still in use. Unofficial word is that it’s on property that was donated by the railroad, with a clause that if it ever ceases to be used for religious purposes the property reverts to the railroad. Might not be true, but it does sort of make sense.

This is beyond sad for me and I really think self-identified "Jesus followers" in the U.S. should realize that fact
