Often camp in Keld, and let Vera the Patterdale loose in the hills to the west of the river, walking down to Muker for lunch is a treat. Then up to Tan Hill Inn for tea !

I agree the view down Swaledale is very tranquil, you should really revisit in Springtime when all the Wild Meadow Flowers are on view.

There is a River Bridge at Reeth so if you need to top up on food or drinks you can do. Reeth is by far the Best Village/Town in Swaledale. Tony in Essex

Done it twice, once solo with all gear and again with macs adventures. Also done Pennine way, south west coastal path, Hadrian's wall, Kungsleden....lovely video!

Hi, I hiked this between May 22nd - June 3rd 😁 I always say that mid May is best for hiking; warm but not too hot (unless you get caught in a heatwave like I did 😂) and not as busy on the trail like in the mid summer months. Hope you get to do it! That’s a great idea for a Honeymoon 😁 just make sure your shoes are decent & your pack isn’t too heavy and you should be good!

In my ultra trail running days, I learned very quickly you always will have one or more low points and because of that you worked out before how you would help your self to deal with it. I would be surprised if didn't low point.

I absolutely loved this. I had just finished making my dinner, I switch on KZbin and there it was the first video on my screen , yay. And yet again, there are so many points I could speak of but I’ll just keep it to a handful. First of all, I found it really interesting when you were speaking about knowing what your limits are & not being to rigid in yourself in order to make the journey as enjoyable as possible and being aware of one’s limits and knowing what can improve your mood or what may worsen your mood etc. I found it fascinating and it rang true with a lot of things I’m currently going through. And for me, I’d have to agree with you that this was my favourite episode so far.The scenery was stunning. I could picture Bilbo Baggins walking up one of the lanes quite easily. Another thing that I really enjoyed was the man who offered to take some of your equipment to the hostel , that was so kind & almost seemed like a reward for your perseverance and working through the tougher days you’d had and sticking with it. You asked what the semicircle of stones might be ? my guess would be they’ve been put there purposely for hikers or groups of hikers or groups of walkers, maybe school parties to sit down while they eat their packed lunch maybe ? Okay, the next thing I’m going to say is a bit dark but here we go, I watched this video with my brother and he has no filter and when you was saying how cute the sheep and lambs were he came out with “ them lambs will be in Morrisons in a couple of weeks “ which sadly is actually true. I’m only mentioning this as there is a lot of beauty in the countryside, but there are some dark things to like the rabbits that have been run over, probably at night when they get caught in cars headlights hence the phrase. Lastly to hear how much you enjoyed this particular part of the journey was visceral and actually gave me a lift in my mood, which is quite amazing if you think about it. And is there any way I can find out what the music is you play on the videos? What the titles are or who the artist are? Is that possible please? If not that’s fine but it would be great to know. Anyway thank you and I look forward to the next one.

And yes I was so lucky with the weather paired with the scenery that day! It was truly stunning & I was so in my element. I want to relive it! The people at the Keld Lodge were amazing, so helpful & generous! It definitely did feel like a reward. Thanks for letting me know about the stones! I figured that was the most likely reason, but wondered if there was more history behind it. And yeah it’s sad about the lambs 😔 as a vegetarian I’m sensitive to the issue, and as much as I love to see the lambs, it’s always in the back of my mind the reason that they’re bred. It’s devastating & I don’t let myself think about it much, I just appreciate them while they’re here. And that’s amazing to hear that it lifted your mood like that! No worries I’ve subscribed gonna make my way through your other videos too! And he’s a husky so he pulls a lot and can’t be off lead who knows maybe one day in the future I could face puttinf him in the kennels for 2 weeks to do it but it’s hard when you’re attached ☺️

Depends upon the prey drive, I guess. But whatever you do fit a GPS tracker collar - Findster & Tractive (use GPS + all mobile phone networks) are about the best but it depends upon the mobile signal and terrain.

Although if you did bring him along on hikes, I’ve seen people hike with those hands free belt leads, and you could get him a little dog backpack for his food? 😂 that’d be cute, if I had a large dog I’d do that I think. Oh and again if you do take him out on hikes, as Daytona said, definitely get a good tracker for him as it’s known for dogs to run off in the moors if they see a rabbit. It happened on Haystacks the other year & the missing posters are still up 😭

Stunning - choosing the scenic route is absolutely the way. Jennifer's Cost to Coast is a thing. Beautiful old buildings, stone walls, bridges, fields, trees. Agree about renovating those dilapidated barns. It looks like there was once good money to be made out of sheep which allowed them to build all the infrastructure, but no more, so its all disintegrating, The "chasing" sheep looked fine - they had relaxed body language.

I’m so glad I took the valley rather than the moors, was so worth it & I saw so much stunning scenery! And yeah about the running sheep, it was funny but I was somewhat wary of being trampled 😂 they likely just got excited because they thought I was there to feed them 😂

fantastic video Im Glad you took the lower routes as it gave us the great views of the scenery . you mentioned your idea of the two parts of your mind thinking different things, there is an Amazing book called "The Chimp Paradox" This explores the idea that we have 2 parts to our brains , the Chimp which is our primordial brain that deals with stress and fear and anxiety etc and the other half is our opposite clear thinking logical mind. It deals with situations where our chimp brain takes over and we panic or stress etc and how we can learn to manage our chimp. It is well worth a read or even listen to on Audio. keep up the great videos

Have you coinsidered doing the Pennine Way at all? I never did the whole thing, but did a few sections of it when I still lived there, and it's a nice walk, though a bit hilly.

OK the other one I can think of is Kirkby Stephens the converted Church at the south end of town, that is now a YH type place. I know that because I stopped there for a night (2020 and I think it cost me £10 per night with evening meal) after my ovenight Coach Trip to Darlington then an onward Hike to Barnard Castle to Middleton then followed the Pennine Way route to Dufton, then hiked South via Appleby to Kirkby Stephens for a two day stay before continueing round to Keld via Garsdale Head, Hardraw Falls, Hawes, then followed the River to Aysgarth Falls then back road to Richmond to catch a local Bus back to Darlington ready for my overnight coach back to Essex. That was my last Big Hike at the age of 64 yrs old. Since then the longest walk I do is my shopping walk into town once a week, distance approx 2 miles each way. Tony the Retired Hiker
