Made my way down the coast to LA county to explore the tide pools. We found many things alike but so many differences as well! Watch and enjoy! Instagram@OutdoorChefLife

Thanks for coming down our way chef. I know l lots of people are requesting location here and I think I recognize the spot, but I assume you're not disclosing the actual location out of respect which is understandable. I think you would agree (and if you don't I apologize for the assumption) that exact locations either here or up your way isn't required for a successful day harvesting. More important is knowing when to go, which species to target, the catch and season regulations and how to respect the environment so others can enjoy it as well. As long as people find some rocky areas that get good exposure at low tide they should have a great day out regardless. Thanks for the content and mahalo for the ono grinds.

Just watched a couple more of your videos and subscribed. Could you please mention any precautions needed before eating foraged food, especially raw? Should we be concerned about the quality of the sea water in certain areas, or the time of year, etc.? I love the concept of eating uni fresh and raw, as you do, but could you address any risks? I would be inclined to cook it just to be safe, but I understand that gives it a different consistency and tase. How would you recommend cooking it, (simply.)? Thanks. Great series!
@OutdoorChefLife4 жыл бұрын
As long as the water you're harvesting them from isn't crazy contaminated, uni will most likely be ok to eat raw. They're only diet is kelp so there's no parasites to ever worry about. As long as the water isn't too dirty.

What beaches do you find them at
@davidblanck41313 жыл бұрын
@@cinnamonsinner4619 lobster, oyster, or urchin? I do not know much about oyster. As far as lobster is concerned.... if you aren't a diver. You can find them in rocky regions with kelp especially. I personally drop hoop nets around the harbors rock walls. You don't want to do this in rough currents or seas. My personal favorite is in the legal areas outside Ventura harbor or channel islands harbor break wall. They post legal hoop netting areas at the launch ramps. Diving is different. If you dive, the seals wont steal your bait lol. I think the best diving spot I have tried is deer creek in the "canyon" about 200 yards off shore in Malibu. Look up deer creek road in the Los Angeles or ventura county line area. There is a staircase to the water. If you go out to the kelp area (again... a ways out) you can find them. Urchen will be anywhere kelp is in those areas. It changes every year. Respond to this and I will give you updates. I'm planning to dive deer creek tomorrow. Your timing is perfect. You can also message me or friend me on Facebook as David Blanck from Ventura county living in anderson Ca as well.
