A quick outing to try something new. I've never used a 10-stop ND before! Do you use one?

Really enjoyed that Simon. That place is a goldmine. Love the look of the images. 😀👍🏻

Thanks Jon. Yes, a wonderful place where I ran around as a kid, but never really appreciated until my later years. The misty moody conditions are indeed wonderful for photography. Appreciate you stopping by. 🙂

A good, old-fashioned Seascape blog Simon great to see you back out in the field. I really like the 85 mil minimalist as long as cultures. The rocks are fab, well done.

Thanks Darren, it's nice to get out and do the old fashioned vlogs! Cheers!

Great images Simon ! Those b/w seem to ooze quality - or is that just my imagination ? Encourages me to get out - even on a manky day ! Yes I have a 10 stop and quite like it given water or and cloud. Have just got an infa red filter- yet to try that -

Thanks Pete! No, it's not your imagination, the Leica has a monochrome sensor. Without the colour array filters in front of it, gives a sharper cleaner image that is more like a medium format sensor would give. The dynamic range and richness of tones still blows my mind, even after 6 months of using it. In comparison, I degraded the colour images with grain etc., to give a muted film-like look. Never used an infrared filter, do share your results. Cheers!

Great stuff mate, but then I do like a long exposure 🙂👍

Cheers Dave, it's possible long exposures could grow on me. 😀

I quite like minimalist long exposures but have hard time finding good subjects. You got some good images even if you didn’t enjoy it as much.😊 the Leica shots were great,

Thanks you. Yes, finding long exposure subjects can be tricky. I believe seascapes are the best option, and finding a single isolated subject like a post, rock or even pier is a good place to start. Thanks for watching! 😊

Always good to mix things up a bit. Both the digital colour images and the video camera showed a greenish/ grey hue colour cast. On my tablet anyway. Was that an atmospheric condition on the day?
@SimonBurnCreative8 ай бұрын
I added a green tint to the video and colour photos, it felt right to me, and reflected the mood I was experiencing and what I was seeing.

Lovely shots, both the colour and b/w. What a great place on a grey day. Historical question: what was all that infrastructure before it was left to deteriorate?

The concrete structures were built to stop costal erosion. The area is made up of soft chalk and clay. There's a major railway line very close to the coast that needs to be protected. The groins are in place to stop sand and sediment drift, which I believe is also a way of slowing erosion. If I had planned this outing I would have mentioned all of this to make the video more interesting. But I only decided to visit half an hour before I arrived, and was focussed on trying to get half decent long exposure images with a filter I've never used before. 😊

I've never had enough ND to make decent long exposures at the beach. Always wanted to give it a proper go though. Thought those Nikon pics were very filmic.
@SimonBurnCreative7 ай бұрын
Same here, I only ended up with a 10-stop because it came with a kit. Re: filmic look, i'm processing my images these days with a film look including grain. Going back to the old days, without the expense of actually shooting film! 😊

Ah, we're a rare breed now Dave. It's also so good to see one of my original subscribers still here and watching my nonsense, so thank you for that. 🙂

A very differenrt set of images in the gallery Siand both for me had their merits. The long exposure stuff is not something I do very often these days - mainly I think because I haven't done coastal for a while and tend to think thattype of photography is suited to waterscapes etc. To try it with just one focal length like takes a brave photographer... but you my friend are equal to that task for sure.! The mono'swith that kit are alwasy going to entrance anyone - they just have a look and feel to them that cries quality. As ever tour presentation is something I always enjoy and tyour insights into the day are informative and enlightning. This popped up on release and I have had it queued since to watch - 6 days that took but well worth it, very enjoyable watch and great images. atb Al

Hi Al, thanks for the kind words! Agree, lonf exposures is best when water is involved. As for focal lengths, I'm only taking out my 35mm and 85mm on trips for the near future, to keep weight down, and restrict me to force me to work harder and cresting images. The BW stuff does have a rich quality to it, gotta love that monochrom sensor. As always, appreciate you watching and commenting Al, stay well good Sir!
