1000s of us were stranded on the highways and sleeping in cars! I left Wilmington at 2pm with my Dad after his chemo treatment and could not get home to Southport until noon the next day. We tried for hours but route after route home kept washing out. We have over 100 road closures still today! I've been here most of my life and have never seen anything like it!

Some people are Diabetic in that stranded jam up. They had no food to bring up their glucose levels. My wife is a diabetic. Whenever we travel, we go prepared to be stranded for a couple days. We bring {$500}cash. Enough food to sustain us in the vehicle for 2 days. We bring 2 gallons of water. A battery booster. A quart of motor oil. A gallon of Engine coolant. Some simple tools. Beverages. $50000 in credit cards in case we have to buy a different vehicle. 2 charged flashlight's. 2 cellphones charged. Powerpack to charge the cellphones. Toilet paper. First aid kit. And we plan according with the weather. The whole time on vacation i pay attention to the weather channel. If a major storm comes, we pack up and go home and abandon the vacation. We never pack a lot of clothes. 2 shorts 2 pants 2 pairs socks,1 pair shoes.
