What is even better is seeing one in action that also rotates. I rode one called the Krazy Krewe before Katrina came and destroyed six flags of new orleans that also used to be Jazzland. I swear that was probably the only one of its kind that ever existed and now its gone.

I rode Kamikaze at a fair as a kid, and I have never felt less secure on a ride. The over the shoulder "restraints" didn't even touch my body and I spent the whole ride painfully knocking around in that death trap. At least it's pretty to look at lol

I always think of the Kamikaze as a Loop-O-Plane "on steroids." Many years ago at the NC State Fair (Strates was the midway provider), I saw (or thought I saw) a Rollo-O-Plane themed as a Skymaster, similarly, as it were, "on steroids"--as it was as huge as the Kamikaze. Just like the regular Rollo-O-Plane, the cages spun so that the riders at each end were never suspended upside-down. Ever since seeing (or thinking I saw) this, I have always regretted not asking two questions: What company made it and how many trailers are required to transport it? (I have never seen this ride listed on Strates's rides list and I got in touch with Strates concerning it, but to no avail)? Can anyone reading this help me?

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is my home park, I love Typhoon so much however, it does every now and then shake a bit (probably an anti-get-stuck-upside-down mechanism) that always freaks my brother out. Maybe not the best feeling to feel when upside down but still, fantastic ride and I’m glad you covered it in this video!
@zacharyyamashita8554 Жыл бұрын
Fun Fact, Being from Santa Cruz myself, the old version was an old Fabbri Kamikaze, and the new Typhoon we got as part of the main Entrance Facelift, is the modern A.R.M Kamikaze model. The new Typhoon get's going a lot quicker turning you upside down vs the old one. Never rode the old one because it looked like a total 🤮 fest, but the new one definitely a quicker ride time, like what the Hammerhead Shark was at Discovery Kingdom, until its fairly recent removal. I believe The Santa Cruz County Fair still runs an older model Fabbri model called The Ranger. I still have yet to get on the newer Typhoon. The HammerHead Shark was a Zamperla Hawk 48 model.

I’ve been on the first version of Kamikaze a hand full of times. Never found it to be enjoyably experience. All you hear is loose dirt and pebbles clattering around the when it starts to reach apex height… then excessive g forces that you can feel distorting your face. Then a full vertical stall for far too long. They were definitely pushing these machines harder back in the late 80’s/early 90’s

Rode a single-sided 4-seater Kamikaze at a traveling fair in Crystal Beach, Ontario. By chance of balance or the operator's doing, the thing had 15~ seconds of full inversion hang time near the start of the cycle. We thought the ride had broken before it continued forward, the Gs forcing the blood in our head back down to our feet (at which point we felt broken ourselves). Big thrill small package.

The Kamikaze ride is a nostalgic part of my early childhood, even if I never went on one until I was an adult. My county fair had one that was the center piece of the ride area. It was this big, looming ride that I loved to watch.

I remember seeing this for years at my local yearly fairgrounds in Manitoba, except it was called Skymaster. One year, in my teens, I finally worked up the courage to go on it and it was amazing. First one of these that I can recollect was "Skyflier" at Casino Pier (Seaside Heights, NJ) ... but I was so young that I was too scared to ride it; by the time I conquered my fear of upside-down rides, that ride was gone. However, I've seen many "Kamikaze", "Tomahawk", and "Bonsai" rides at carnivals over the years, and have ridden my share (though not recently). I'm curious as to why there are so many names for the same ride. AFAIK, they're all the same ride; I feel like they're even the same manufacturer. Maybe I'm wrong; I dunno. I've done the Loop-O-Plane at a small carnival that no longer comes. It was OK, but I greatly prefer the "Satellite" at Knoebels.

What about Fabbri’s ‘booster ranger’ ride which 2 of were produced in the 1990’s, it’s basically a kamikaze except instead of the normal cage it had booster seats on the end of the arm which enables to do tons of flips and create a very intense ride cycle.
