I was wondering about that too. I rode this ride dozens of times as a kids, and as an adult in 2017, and I don't remember that stop, or know why it would be necessary.

I remember riding this ride back in the late 70's and there were no trim brakes before that final loop. Riding the back you got a serious air time coming off that hill. This is the first video I've seen where the trim brakes actually stopped the train there.

That trim at 2:09 was straight up disgusting. I marathoned this ride back in 2001 and it was actually really fun. But that brake breaks my heart lol

They probably did that for a reason. I’d guess it was too intense for many visitors or it was causing too much wear on the track. If it was the latter then the change was necessary (many people, including a lot of coaster enthusiasts, don’t understand how important maintenance is). Also, if the train had more people on it then it probably wouldn’t have slowed down as much.

Rode it couple weeks ago, the trim didn't really catch on. I guess it's there as a block.

They started the trim braking long before they referbed the ride. The last time I rode this back in 2016 and it did that with the old trains. One of the reasons why that was my last visit to the park.

This was one of my first rollercoasters as a kid back in the 1990s. If I remember correctly, it use to be a rusty color and was just simply called "mind bender," but then after Batman Forever came out they painted it green and put the questions marks up there.

You are correct. It was brown and called mindbender. When Batman was added, SFOG made an area of the park called Gotham and you can guess why it’s green now, lol

It is a really fun ride! I always use it as a start up ride when I need to get used to rollar coasters again because it was the one that cracked my shell into liking roller coasters there were so many I loved and wanted to go in but I couldn’t.

This ride has a seatbelt and bar, it has extra protection, ensuring you won’t fall on any parts of the ride for anyone who was scared about that.

This was my first looping coaster, way back in the late 90's. That brake before the final loop kills a lot thrill. It used to trim the speed, then we'd flying into the final brakes.

This was my first looping coaster as a kid in the 80's - bizarre to think of the anxiety leading up to that first ride - though I'm sure that distinctive Schwarzkopf roar on the loop was a big contributor 😆The way it follows the terrain is still thrilling and my favorite element remains that banked downward turn around the pond. That brake before the last loop is a crime 😁

I dont know if the rides just getting old or what, i used to love this one when i was younger, but i tried riding this abt a year or two ago and it was not a good experience despite my fond memories with the ride. The majority of the ride felt the same and i was having a great time at first.. but that loop scared me.. when i went through the loop i literally started falling out through the restraint towards the top of the loop and i had to grab on, im not talking hang time.. thats a totally different thing and its not something im freaked out by even on massive coasters.. i was literally slipping through the lap bar restraint. when i got off the ride i informed the staff and they didnt shut down the ride, but we went back later in the day and they werent seating anyone in the seating row that i was in earlier in the day and they told us they took a look at it and the lap bar was apparently not locking all the way in like it should have been so it didnt go down all the way and me being super skinny wasnt properly secured. I know this could have just been a one off experience, im not blaming it on the ride or the park staff because they do a good job, but this has scared me away from ever getting on this ride again, imo theres better stuff in the park anyways, i just loved this one because it was a very early on ride for me that helped me branch out more into bigger stuff. things could have gone very wrong had i not held onto the cart for dear life. one plus side though, because of what happened, the staff gave me a pass that allowed me to use the flash pass lane 5 times on any ride except for dare devil dive so i got to skip the lines on some bigger stuff like goliath and i also got on twisted cyclone super fast using this.
