I just started using the ProtectaClear for my jewelry after I watched this video and I love it so far. I used it on an enamel chain with an alloy charm and no tarnish. I even wore the necklace in the shower for 2 weeks just to fully test it and no tarnish. I found this video very useful to treat my jewelry.

Hey for your alloy charm did you only solvent wipe then apply the protecta clear? Or did u just apply protecta clear directly?

@@nyasha7721Sorry I just saw your message. I hang the charms on a rack and take it outside on a nice day and spray them down. It has protected the charms and gives them a slightly shiny look

Thanks for this rundown. I have used ProtectaClear in the bottle for many years. I dip once and then hang the piece on a wire in a jar but I babysit it a little for the first hour by dabbing the base of the piece lightly on a paper towel because gravity makes it pool into a drip at the bottom. If you don’t dab it, you will end up with a thicker blob at the low point. I let it dry for 24 hours before applying a second coat. Three coats tends to make the piece look a bit plastic, so I only do two coats. For pieces that don’t fit into the bottle for dip an dunk, I use a toothpick and tap the bigger drips back into the bottle before applying. As I mentioned in a reply to another commenter, I use a mask, protective eyewear and rubber gloves - the fumes are quite strong and should not be inhaled. Hope that helps.

This video was an absolute life saver, I had just finished making a bi-metal ring for my girlfriend and I had no clue what to coat it with to keep it from eating away. If you want to keep a finish on something in the machine shop you just coat it in oil, but I doubt she would want to put an oil soaked ring on her finger 😅

Hello! I use protect a clear in the dipping form, but i am sorta new to it. I love the product, but it has a strong smell! I let the jewelry hang dry for about 15 minutes or longer before I apply a second coat once i've add the 2nd coat I let the jewelry hang and cure for 5 days as suggested on the can to prevent chipping or any other damage to the coating! Also be careful with some beads that have a special coating on them it can change the look and strip the color of some like AB finishes!

These are useful products, but make sure you protect your skin, eyes, and lungs when using any of them. Apply them outdoors or indoors with good ventilation and wear mask, respirator, or gloves in either place. If you can smell the product through your mask you need something more protective. I don't mean to dampen spirits, but your health shouldn't be a trade-off for making jewelry, and it doesn't have to be if you take precautions.

Yes. I use ProtectaClear. Great product but the resin and solvent are very strong. I wear gloves, a mask and eye protectors and then hang the piece across a wire in a jar with the lid on loosely so it can dry without any lint or dust getting stuck to it while it dries. I put the jar in the back room with the back door open. Safety first.

The concept is similar, to protect the surface and create a clear coating, but we didn't try metal varnish.

Sorry for the very late reply! I just found a batch of unanswered comments! 😬 No that won't stop the reaction as it is with their skin and the particular metal. It's the metal that causes the reaction not the tarnish.

Hopefully someone here will be able to answer this question. I’m looking for any recommendations on what to use to seal/cure polymer clay jewelry that will be in contact with skin for long periods of time. The earrings I plan to build from polymer clay will be inserted into holes for stretched earlobes and I want to make sure that whatever product I seal the earrings in won’t be toxic or harmful in any way. I’m looking for one that once cured is not sticky and has a nice clear shine to it. I was considering protectaclear, but I notice that it is noted to be used for metals. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Does anyone know how long protectaclear lasts on copper wire that has a gold fimish on top for jewelry making? If for example you wear the jewelry piece often, would it need to be sealed agaim every 3 months maybe?...
@beaducation4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to this. There are so many factors involved. It all depends on if the piece is rubbing against the skin, or worn in the shower, or the chemistry of the wearers skin etc.

You mentioned "industrial" sharpies. I was researching comments on Amazon and many major comments said these weren't any different, and/or better than, regular sharpies. Would you do a video on regular vs industrial ones?
@beaducation5 жыл бұрын
We have tested both and noticed that the industrial lasted longer (no running off). But there are other products on the market that are way more permanent. I do have some experience with the ren wax it is a bit tedious and I would prefer to spray or dip as I do have many to deal with and some if not all have difficult spaces to reach nookes and crevices makes it hard with the ren wax in this a dip or a spray would make short work of it oh of course clean as normal then coat I have had some stuff turn green with other products still I seek something better and simpler when there is many to do
