Though a product of its time, "Cobra" is still a great action flick. It definitely embraced all the fun with 80s action films. Best line in the film is Cobra's reply when the grocery store killer says he'll blow the place up: "Go ahead, I don't shop here anyway".

I saw Cobra in the theater twice, and it was violent enough for me. I was really surprised Andy Robinson wasn't one of the night slashers after seeing guys in suits during the synchronized clanging. I don't think I even noticed the changing road conditions. Three things in this movie stuck out for me: the rooftop meeting where Art LaFleur tells Cobretti "Do what you do best"; the crooked cop's reaction to the motorist's question as to whether she was drunk; and Robinson's reaction to the carnage at the end ("I would have used less... extreme methods.")

Dao Yang 1 and 2 are, but 3 & 4, aren't as good for me, as I saw Cobra as a kid when it came out, and I loved the one liners, and dark tone of the whole movie. There is a movie called Black Cobra, or Cobra Nero, made about a year within Cobra, with Fred Williamson as Malone, in a Phillipine production of the same script. It's fun, and it does the sequels, where he goes to the Philippines in both 2 and 3.

There was a practice range directly across from the basement lunch room and Vice Squad offices in a precinct a friend worked at long ago. The armory as well. This is STILL one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Another I believe that came off a bit restrained for what they were after. It needed more T&A, guts on the ground, something... still love it. Great review of awesome and all time action cult classic! I used to only like Cobra because i considered it to be a very good action movie but over time i grew to like it more and more and became huge fan of it. I hate when people are putting it down. So what if it has some minor issues (mainly the very obvious choppy editing in places), it is still a kickass and extremely fun. I really think that action sequences are some of the best of the 80's, and great cinematography is one big reason why i think it stands out from many other action films of same time. People give credit to Jack Cardiff for the work he did on Stallone's previous hit Rambo 2 but i think that Ric Waite did a much better job with cinematography on Cobra. Some of the visuals are surpringly good for movie like this one. I think you're right, there was originally much better film which unfortunately Warner Brothers didn't care for and sadly, neither did Stallone. I am a fan of him but some of the stuff he did in the past and present with re-editing films like this and Nighthawks because of his ego really pisses me off, specially when he claims he tried to make his films better but in the end he only helped ruin them. Warner Bros, and many other studios like Miramax and Universal, are infamous for tempering with their films by taking them from directors and re-cutting them. Over the years i did lot of research about WB films and i quickly noticed large amount of reports and official info about their habit of doing exactly that. I recommend reading about some other films which they took away and re-edited to find out more. Here are some examples; Hard To Kill and Out For Justice were originally lot longer and with more plot parts, Demolition Man was originally over two hours long and had more action scenes, released version of Tango & Cash is actually a "butcher's cut" of the film put together by two different editors as a result of constant re-editing of combined footage filmed and re-shot by 4 different directors over 4 months of filming, Showdown In Little Tokyo was infamously re-edited from original 100-some minutes long running time down to 79 minutes, Deadly Friend (which came out the same year as Cobra) was also re-cut and very badly edited with re-shot scenes resulting in another choppy film... Btw, i have a video on my channel that has some deleted scenes from Cobra so check it out if you want to. 7:02 Entire car chase was originally much longer, which explains all the continuity mistakes in theatrical version, including that huge fuck up. Slasher and other guy originally crashed first and jumped out of the car right before Cobra crashed into it. If you notice, when he exists the car after the crash Cobra is looking at completely opposite side from the one where editing makes it look like Slasher's car went.

If I made movies, there'd always be at least one scene where the music was completely inappropriate. Like, that final scare moment that's part of so many horror movies but then "Girls just wanna have fun" starts playing "unironically". I just love those moments. Always liked Brian Thompson whenever he shows up. He's a great actor, and he always seems to make more out of his performance than just what the script offers. Wish actors like him showed up in more films (as opposed to Stallone).

Saw this movie not more than a month ago, and I remember seeing this movie when i was a kid, and I remember it was way more violent, So I called up my mom, and asked her what the deal was, and she said that the one that I saw, was a "VHS cut" of the movie that had a lot of the violence from the X-rated version, and a longer runtime, than the 90 (or so) minutes than this version... "Cobra" is like the no name brand name beer you buy when "Commando" is not available; you will still get drunk, but have a worse hangover for drinking it (watching it). Cheers to Cobra! Classic!!

Damn, I watch this movie like four years ago, but watching every since in the review feels like deja vu Like I just seen the film. It's a good feeling.

It's a common name but an Ingrid Knudsen was a botanic artist who, using sketches and a skin provided for her, created the first image of a Cobra that most people saw.

They must have put some of those scenes back in for the video release. I distinctly remember the hands being delivered to the cops when I watched this as a kid.

I laughed at the comments you made at the name Ingrid Knudsen, those are common first and last names in Scandinavia.

When it comes to John Wayne's real name, I always remember this exchange of Hank Hill and a character, whose name I can't remember so I will call him "O.G. for other guy O.G.: "John Wayne's real name was Marion." Hank Hill: "You take that back!"

There was a great movie here. It's time we get to see it. It's time for an extended cut of Cobra to be released. If Stallone can go to all the trouble to rework Rocky IV (not one of his best films, but became one of his best films with his extended cut), why not Cobra? Cobra was Stallone's homage to an all time great film, "Dirty Harry". Why should he want Cobra's legacy to be one of half measures, which is what the theatrical cut is. Come on Mr. Stallone! It's time for "Cobra: the Ultimate Marion Cobretti Cut" !!!!

I only saw this fully a couple of years back, I was at my folks place & My Dad was watching it. Up till then I had only seen parts of it, I enjoyed it as a balls to the wall 80's action flick, although I have to say I would like to see the full uncut version now you've told us all about it, as it sounds much better.

Fred Williamson was in Cobra Nero, or Black Cobra, which was made not long after, based on the same story, and it seems, the script as well. It's fun, and they do many of the same scenes, with some different stuff. There were 3 sequels, 2 of which I saw, where he goes to the Philippines, which is where the first Bkack Cobra was filmed, to be L.A.

Tragic that we'll never get to see the full version of COBRA - it's already 80s ridiculous glory, the full uncut movie would be A M A Z I N G ! (I shall clink my cult-axes together over my head, in memorial of this) :(

I remember watching this in the theaters in my youth and it was sometimes perplexing. I dunno if it got even more cuts in Sweden but, for example, I remember there being a guy trying to shoot Cobra with a rifle with a laser sight in the foundry and later he's just .... not there. He wasn't killed off or anything, he just disappeared from the movie. It happened to more of them but he was the most "wtf? where did that guy go???" Even though he is an underdeveloped character, we still liked Brian Thompson as the villain. He does a really good job of being scary.

I can't agree that it deserved a sequel but it definitely needed a director's cut on home video. I don't know if it got one but it deserved it.
