Good on you for mentioning it should only be used as a last ditch measure. Giving up airspeed like that in such a dramatic fashion is very very risky. Super cool for airshow though
@Patrick-zr8tv
@Patrick-zr8tv 2 ай бұрын
It's not even really the air speed loss that's the bad thing, even when used correctly it still just doesn't really work. Very rarely will you find a situation where you will benefit from it and even if you do, most times there will be another solution that is easier and won't murder your airspeed.

You need to understand that most people's interactions with "experts" are through video format and people with real world experience (i.e. building or policies) can see particular people put on a pedestal, have their points platformed and never challenged and you can see how disdain for the title for those having "expert" status comes from. "Parad" in "Kort Parad" would in regular Swedish not usually bring "parry" to mind. "Parad" can be used in sports, especially in fencing, to mean a parry but outside fencing this is mostly used when goalies in various sports make saves/parries with their feet/legs, "fotparad". To most Swedes it would firstly mean "parade" and one could certainly view this maneuver as the plane doing a "short parade". There is another meaning to "parad" too, associated with equestrianism, that fits rather well with this maneuver though. In this meaning "parad" means "a quick change from movement to stand still".
@katherineberger6329
@katherineberger6329 2 ай бұрын
"Kort parad" or "short parry" in Swedish is what we English speakers call a "beat parry" - when you use a brief stroke of your sword in fencing to beat the opponent's sword out of the way in order to create an opening for a riposte. Like the beat parry in actual fencing, it's a high-risk, high-reward maneuver because if you succeed you can win quickly but if you fail you're extremely vulnerable.

@iwyrilja 2 ай бұрын
Eehh not really. Getting into a dogfight is insanely rare but I wouldn’t say the high off-aspect missiles killed the cobra. only carry 2 short range HOBS missiles. Avoid those you need to use your guns. From there you get in a slow speed scissoring type fight and using the cobra when your opponent starts his turn towards you usually avoids their guns and gives you an advantageous position. It’s never going to happen cause 9/10 times both parties would fire their missiles BVR until they both run out of fuel/ missiles and goes home or untill one or both get hit.
@theamericancommie727
@theamericancommie727 2 ай бұрын
The fuck do you mean? It completely justifies the cobra? You can't sustain energy like the western doctrine says with HOBS missiles because they will just kill you, they are extremely advanced missiles, the way you avoid them, is by bleeding your speed, and being slower than your opponent so they fly out in front of you, ideally if you both bleed speed you'll be so close to each other the HOBS missile can't pull in the small radius between you and the other jet, that's why WITH HOBS missiles anything other than a one circle slow speed fight is suicide

It's a really, really situational maneuver. To pull it off in a dogfight the opponent would have to be not only behind you but also either approaching you fast or pointing his nose far bellow of where you are on his hud. If not done in the right opportunity the opponent could easily pick you off with guns, because you would reduce your speed, maneuverability and would also become a way bigger target for him.

Actually, the first ever pilot that performed this maneuvre publicly was soviet pilot Viktor Pugachev in 1989 on Su-27. But the author of this figure was Igor Volk who completed cobra accidentaly while returning control of the same Su-27 jet in corkscrew. Swedens discovered this maneuvre while dropping the speed of aircraft and used it in the future to do the same thing while soviets used it to get back control of aircraft. It can be also used in thereotical fight like it said in this short but in a few cases.

You got the whole story mixed up. And The cobra was first done in 1961, Igor became a test pilot in 1965. So no he wasn't the first

Flankers and Fulcrums appearing at western airshows made the manoeuvre known to the public. The Draken was the first aircraft to perform it.

Sweden didn't discover the manuever while dropping speed, it was discovered and developed by two test pilots as a way to exit a superstall. while doing this they found out it dropped the speed quite heavily and AFTER that started using it as a way to slow down.

I thought it was developed by a Russian in a Su27. They famously advertised it as the only aircraft capable of pulling off such super critical angles of attack before thrust vectoring became mainstream.

Yeah, me to but apparently not. Looks like the Russians stole the fame of the original creator of the maneuver. As the video says, it was developed in Sweden in 1960s while Su27 was developed in mid 1980s.

@@WaltherMotUBefore claiming that somebody stole something, you better look for newspapers from 1992 and learn WHO claimed that this manoeuvre is invented by Russians and named it Pugachev's Cobra

It does not have anything to do with a name. Whether Soviets named it or not, it was Swedish Saab J35 Drakken which performed this maneuvre long before Sukhois with 3d thrust vectoring - which is not neccessary for this maneuvre, as proven by Drakken, or classic Mig 29 - both have none, yet are able to perform it. And yes, Saab was first.
@Frikciya
@Frikciya 2 ай бұрын
@@indyawichofficial1346 Point out where I said that Soviets / Russians/ Su / MiG were first. People above claimed that : " Russians lied that they were first and only they could do it, Russians had said in 1992 that they had been the first", while I emphasized that it weren't Russians who made that statement in 1992, when the world learnt about this manoeuvre.
