Cobweb is destined to be one of the most overlooked horror movies of 2023. This twisted fairy tale genuinely surprised me and should be on your radar!

I loved this movie, it was so good. Genuine horror, plot was straight forward and just creepy enough to make it worth recommending to any lover of the genre. A hard 7/10 from me. I just wish they had gone a little deeper on how this secret made the parents become the way we find them in the movie. Ps I’m just in awe of how beautiful Coleoptera Coleman is 😢

You loved it .. yet gave it a score of only 7 out of 10? I thought the movie was horrendous.. only good thing was it had an interesting story.. the twist with his sister.. thinking he was trying to free her..but they were really protecting them.. just wasn't executed good.. it came off very cheesy and generic

Lizzy Caplan as the mom was the standout for me. She was great with how she could flip from her manufactured motherly persona to creepy lady in a blink. The part where she appeared behind Peter as he called Miss. Devine led to some hilarious shrieks from some of the audience members in my theatre.

I somewhat agree about the reveal at the end. I would take it one step further (spoilers) and say that they should have left it being the parents being the main bad, not the sister in the wall. They should have left her a victim and the whole plot would have been more believable and far scarier. The parents were terrifying, and it somewhat reminded me of one of the most traumatizing films I saw when I was young called "Parents" with Randy Quaid. If you never saw that one, you should.

(Spoiler alert) I do agree with you on your take on Ms. Devine. It’s not even necessarily that I don’t buy her attachment to Peter, rather more so that I don’t buy the actions she takes when she realizes Peter is in trouble. The first time she left their home and she heard banging coming from behind the walls, noticed Peter was nowhere in sight and that it in fact was not the washing making that noise, she would/ should have called DCF and reported suspected child abuse. Instead she just did nothing and went on with her life. Then only after Peter calls her asking for help does she STILL NOT CONTACT POLICE OR DCF, but rather chooses to wait until night time and risk her life showing up ALONE. Her character is one that I joke has a death wish because her actions just kept getting dumber and dumber. To me her decision making took me out of it a little because I found it so unbelievable. Definitely overall good movie, I enjoyed all the surprises along the way.

I rarely ever fall for jump scares, especially ones you see coming. But when he through that ball in the wall, I was totally expecting it to come back. When it was focused on that hole then suddenly the eye showed up, I genuinely jumped. Also I believe the kid in a real life situation would have immediately gone right to his parents and questioned them about the voice he hears behind the wall telling him it's his sister. His parents would have had to respond and tell him who she was and why she is there. He must have been scared of his parents that much.

This movie was really good. The suspense alone around the parents and not knowing how far they were going to go with punishing Peter, who’s *8 years old* (seriously, someone needed to call CPS stat). Then waiting for the monster reveal (always the best plan for the horror factor). I didn’t have too much of a problem with the showing of the monster a lot more in the third act because it was really terrifying at this point and all bets were off. The acting was solid from the kid and the parents. Parents were creepy AF. I agree the teacher wasn’t quite believable. Cinematography was solid. I do have a little problem with the end, but nothing major. Would probably rewatch for another Halloween (it’s being set around Halloween definitely gets it bonus points.) Would recommend.

It was definitely a breath of fresh air. In recent years, most horror films feel like you are watching the exact same movie in a different paint of coat. Same plot devices, same cinematography, almost identical scripts; just endless derivative crap coming from a soulless assembly line. This movie's script caught me off guard several times throughout the viewing, and it was quite enjoyable witnessing a different and more original take on the haunted house theme that chooses to deviate from the common slop we are so used to viewing lately.. (Kind of reminded me of pet Sematary with the whole Zelda plotline.). I just cannot stand it that within the first five minutes of a movie I can pretty accurately predict how it is going to go down. It kills any sense of tension or intrigue whatsoever, and turns the movie into A boring drag to get through. I'm glad it was not the case with Cobweb. I would have loved it if the film would have incorporated more creative ideas from recent successes of the genre, such as the emphasis on Special-effects for the gore and creature design that has been so effectively revitalized in the terrifier franchise, and sought to further distinguish itself from contemporary releases by avoiding all too common tropes that unfortunately are still present to some extent in this film, such as the way the villain can be noticed in the background, perching and walking on walls, or the creature design itself appearing too CGI and video-gamey. Also, It feels like the boogeyman and this film borrow heavily on certain elements from each other in the monster design compartment. Most importantly, another thing this film does very well - it keeps a solid and gripping pace that never feels drawn out or stale, while managing to maintain a constant and very palpable sense of tension throughout the entirety of its duration, an achievement that is essential for any horror film, which unfortunately fails to be met by a ton of films of this genre in the past decade or so. (The boogeyman 2023, i'm talking about you.) One flaw that never ceases to annoy me as of late with many different types of film, is the casting of central characters that have had obvious over the top cosmetic work done on their faces, to the point where it literally impairs their ability to provide engaging and believable facial mimetics, and this hurts their delivery. This happens to be the case with the character of Miss Devine in this film, and I just couldn't get past how distracting her lip filler among other touchups were. Overall, very nice film, with a somewhat dubious and abrupt ending that feels like it could have been done better. I give it a solid 6/10. A lot of potential and good things going for it, but I feel like director failed to capitalize on certain themes that could have easily elevated this movie to a 7.5.

I was trying to figure out what it was about Lizzy Caplan’s performance that made it extra creepy, and I started noticing that not only was she playing it very cookie-cutter creepy but she was also very subtly over-enunciating her words in a way I’ve never heard her do in any other roles. It gives extra tension because people typically over-enunciate when they’re irritated. So it’s like this subconscious implication that she’s always just about to snap.

Talk to me was a million times better executed and felt more original.. this one was pretty dumb to be honest.

Did you see “Malum”? The reimagining of Last Shift? I was so disappointed. I wanted way more. They had a perfect chance to fix what most people didn’t like from Last Shift. Which I wasn’t one who disliked it anyway, but still, by the end of Malum I was like wtf

Watched it last night and thought it was great. Never made the theaters around here so I had to wait and stream it.

My lady and I finally got to watch Cobweb today and we loved it! It was very good! I see what you’re sayin in comparison to Barbarian but I think Cobweb is better than Barbarian! Id say it was better than Scream 6 and Evil Dead Rise as well! I haven’t seen Talk to Me yet but I Cobweb is my favorite I’ve seen this year!

Just watched this last night....its my favorite horror film so far this year (haven't seen talk to me yet) but i love how original it was (for the most part) definitely gave me barbarian vibes as in the twist and turns aspect. Highly recommend this one!!

I just finished the film. Holes in the story for me. The teacher was an unnecessary character. Does someone have any idea why and how this supernatural element was even at play here? What made her evil? Were the parents evil? Did I miss something?

Horror movies never make sense. Like how did daughter get Spiderman skills to crawl on walls. Teacher saved the boy. Parents didn't have to act so creepy to give boy nightmares. Parents were kinda evil and daughter turned evil from being treated poorly. The best scene was when the home intruders come in.

@@jonfreeman9682successful horror films make sense. There’s a lot you can connect later. This film was like a kid was asked for an idea and then they ran with it without polishing up the plot lol.

Just like you, I knew nothing about this movie but being a horror fan decided to go and see it anyway regardless when it got released yesterday in Ireland, and just like you I was pleasantly surprised by this, like you said it's far from perfect but enjoyed it all the same , and I think they utilised the low budget brilliantly. Yeah the reveal towards the end was a bit ott but I felt it necessary that they showed that but should've been way more practical about it instead of getting over cgi about that reveal. I thought the teacher which you didn't like was actually quite good and necessary to be honest, I felt that she was a much needed break from the creepy house situation. I really enjoyed this movie & glad I knew nothing about it going in. And when this movie goes to streaming/dvd it'll be the perfect movie to show at a 10/12 year old Halloween sleepover party, speaking of which I'm surprised they didn't keep this movie on hold till Halloween

Liked this movie overall - creepy vibes, suspense, good acting. But had to pause it a couple times due to lack of excitement. Two moments/elements that stick out in my mind: 1) that decayed pumpkin patch in the backyard; 2) the way the dad eats the soup - Oscar-worthy!
