They did it as a pallete cleanse. Once old coke was off the shelf for a month, they immediately brought it back but using cheaper ingredients so no one would notice

Yeah this is it. Once the original coke came back it no longer had cane sugar in it, but now high fructose corn syrup. You can still get OG coke, but it's a bit harder to track down.

New coke was not a failure, it created an addiction for the original coke flavor that couldnt be filled so they could bring it back with incredible sales as well as letting them make coke cheaper by trading the cane sugar in coke for high fructose corn syrup.

I believe the "new" coke flavour used today's diet coke formula but just added sugar. Not 100% sure of this, but some sources do say this is the case (you can Google it to find out yourself) and it adds up since diet coke IS sweeter than normal coke, so adding sugar and making it "too sweet" is certainly possible. Diet coke also came out 3 years earlier than new coke. So, you can get an idea of how it tasted. You might be able to make your own if you put cane sugar into diet coke in the same amounts as new coke had (which can most likely be found online with a picture of a label or something), warm it lightly in a saucepan and stir, take it out when the sugar has dissolved, cool it (not the fridge or freezer), add fizz using a soda stream, and chill it. The sugar should be cane sugar, which is very accessible here in the UK where I'm based, but might be different in other countries. High fructose corn syrup can be added but getting it seems to be hard because you can only get it for industrial/commercial use, meaning you might need to buy a massive barrel of it for 100s of dollars because you get so much. Obviously I'm not a chemist and heating coke even a bit might change the chemical composition and therefore the taste, so try to keep the diet coke as cool as possible before all the sugar dissolves, preferably before it boils to decrease the likelihood of a chemical change occuring. Also don't use a hob or another heating device unless you know what you're doing :)

What about Coca-Cola Life? Coca-Cola life was made in an attempt to make Coke taste more “fresh” in Australia. They essentially made a modified version of the Coca-Cola Formula by using different flavouring agents which made it have a salty taste to it, which not only made people more thirsty, but made people feel sick. To top it all off, Coca-Cola Life was given a Green wrap around plastic bottles instead of the traditional colours that everyone had grown used to. This confused potential customers as Green wasn’t a common colour used for soft drinks, except for Mountain Dew, and 7-Up. Only after 7 months from its release it was taken off the shelves in shops around Australia.

I was alive during the soda wars of the 80s kids. It was horrible. Taste test booths in front of every store, diabetes cases running rampant. Then Jolt Cola came along and it was like a nuclear bomb. It woke up everyone to the horrors of war and things have been peaceful ever since. It's a miracle that any of us survived to tell then tales.
