Hello again, Maybe I'll include that in the next video. It's really simple, once you have taught your pup to give you his paw in the normal way, it's just a question of changing your hand position. Only use the words High Five, when he is happily doing it about 90% of the time. Kindest Regards, Karen

Ella is 10 weeks now, Learned high 5👌. She always tried to bite my pants when I walk with her or turn around bite leash. Any suggestions? 🙏

Thank you for these videos, I have a 7month old Cavapoo so I’ll be trying out the ‘stop’ training on him tomorrow. I need to teach him to heel too, he’s not great on a lead, so I know I’m going wrong somewhere. He’s my first dog, so lots of learning for both of us 😂 He’s a good boy though.

Hello there, thanks for contacting us, and well done on keeping up the training. At seven months old your puppy may well be about to enter his adolescent period when, just like their human counterparts, some youngsters start pushing the boundaries. Don’t be too downhearted if your puppy seems to have lost the plot suddenly. It’s perfectly normal, and he will come out of the other side in a few months. Just be patient, and carry on with the training as normal. Good luck, and let me know how you get on.

@@svsfilm Thank you for replying :) He's certainly going through his adolesence stage, he has his moments, he's very sweet though :) He's not been neutered yet (which I'm dreading), but I don't think I'll be having that done for another 2-3 months though, but I'm sure he'll probably calm right down after that. Thank you once again for your videos, they're very helpful.

Hello! We just placed a deposit on a cockapoo in USA.I am delighted to see your videos. Do you have any recommendations for books you like on training? I will look through your videos this weekend.

Hello Nina, Congratulations on your new family member, and I hope you enjoy the videos. These should show you the basics, but I'd heartily recommend that you also attend dog training classes in your area. This way you and your puppy will be with like-minded folk giving you more support and experience. Always check that their emphasis is on positive training, not the boot camp sort of approach. In the UK we're lucky enough to have the Kennel Club Accredited Instructor scheme, which assures handlers that the instructor has satisfied the theoretical and practical requirements you should expect. I've not checked, but perhaps the American Kennel Club has a similar scheme - if so, it would be an idea to check out availability locally. Book-wise you'll be spoilt for choice, as there are works addressing all aspects of canine training, behaviour, health and care, ageing, tricks, games, etc., with styles from the academic to the simple. I'd suggest a coffee and a browse in your local bookshop, but leave the reading until the winter. In the summer and autumn, just spend time enjoying your puppy, exploring, and allowing him or her to see and hear as many new things as possible. Good luck, and have fun, Karen

That was very interesting. I have a rescue dog since 2020, he is very good in the home good manners. But when we're out and he sees dogs bigger than himself he loses it gets very stroppy. I keep him on a lead at all times as we dont venture away from the area where I live. When I was walking with a stick and taken unawares I've had a number of falls. His previous owner told me he doesn't like other dogs. But he is besotted with the little girl dog next door she is slightly smaller. ( I've used a walker since last autumn) oh we got a haltar for him last year. We've had him 3 years and he was 61/2 years old then, mixed breed. Can an old dog be trained? My son thinks not.

Hello there, Well it sounds as though you’ve got a little bit of a challenge on your hands. I have to say that I really take my hat off to you for persevering, especially as you aren’t steady on your feet. The good news is that older dogs can indeed be trained, though it does tend to take longer, and the breed of the dog can make a difference. You mention that your dog is always walked on a lead, and I wonder whether he is getting enough exercise. You don’t mention his breed, but even at 9.5 years old some dogs, particularly smaller ones, still enjoy more active exercise and maybe a friendly relative or volunteer could take him to a secure area where he could stretch his legs. When it comes to his problem with larger dogs this could be down to a number of reasons, e.g. nervousness, excitability, frustration, aggression or protectiveness. Very few dogs are actually aggressive, but many more will bark to keep dogs at bay for other reasons such as the ones I’ve mentioned. A dog trainer or behaviourist would be able to identify which, and then come up with a plan to address the issues. The most important thing is that you avoid taking risks that could result in your falling and being injured. Again, advice about appropriate leads, harnesses and headcollars for your situation and dog breed / size will be available locally. I hope this helps, Kindest Regards, Karen

Hello Kari, Thank you for your kind words. I'm a volunteer trainer at my local KC Registered dog training society, and offer help to anyone who asks for it free of charge, but I'm afraid I don't give out direct contact details. If you have a general question, I'm more than happy to answer here, as it might help others as well. Kindest Regards, Karen

Hi can I ask what sweets you give as a treat,take care.Easton...
@svsfilm
@svsfilm 2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Obviously sweets for humans are definitely NOT suitable for dogs. Treats as rewards for your dog can be anything your dog really likes such as very small pieces of sausage, cheese or very small puppy dog biscuit according to your dog's normal diet. If in doubt, always check with your vet. Thanks for watching our videos.
