Cockney Rebels - Dún Laoghaire's connection to assassination that shook the British Empire

The story of the assassination of British Field Marshal, Sir Henry Wilson MP, in London in 1922, which changed the course of Irish history and it's links to the port town of Dún Laoghaire in south county Dublin, Ireland. Contributors include Irish Times journalist and author of 'Great Hatred - the assassination of Field Marshal Henry Wilson MP', Ronan McGreevy, writer and commentator and former Republican prisoner, Danny Morrison, Deans Grange Cemetery staff officer, Jason McLean, local Dún Laoghaire historian, Brian Smith with music by Clare Walsh from Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann. Directed and produced by Michael Nolan, the film was co-funded with the support of a heritage grant from Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.

Wow what a story thank you so much a really well made and told story and video. This past year I have been working at Liverpool St station and am aware of the memorial there to Wilson but only had a vague idea of his importance the Ulster Unionism.

Great to see this very significant incident in the outbreak of the Civil War getting thorough examination although Danny Morrison’s comment in the 37th minute dismissing Collin’s stepping stone theory, ‘the others were right’, was a bit on the simplistic unsupported side.

London has always had strong Irish connections especially London Irish rugby club and GAA club's and so many plastic paddies live all over England after Independence there was a massive movement of people leaving Ireland and going to Britain primarily for work and to send money back to Ireland to feed their jobless families. Republican perspective is completely different slanted historically when it comes to mass migration of Irish people leaving because of the economic struggles after Independence only people surving was army veteran's on pensions from Britain and Irish Republican Army pensions 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇮🇪 🇬🇧

One name that has been put forward is Denis Kelleher who it is claimed volunteered to be the driver. My understanding is that he didn’t respond to message giving details of arrangements.

The indomitable will of a people determined to govern themselves is now tragically meaningless, as mass immigration under EU directives, and an Irish homosexual governmental cabal, have all but rendered this formative history inconsequential and obsolete to an ever increasing number of "Irish" citizens. Don't worry, I've migrated back after being born in London. I'm tryna do my bit for the gene pool. Used to vote SF but Mary Lou doesn't give half a fk about migration, didn't even show up to East Wall protests in her own area. There's more and more far left & fairly far right ideology these days. Dunno about the "rise up" stuff but we could certainly use some fresh faces in govt.
