That is just a beautiful airplane. I worked for a regional USA airline for several years in the 1980s which had mostly F27s in its fleet. These many years later, It still warms my heart whenever I hear those RR Dart engines.....

My uncle, a metal stress engineer/technician with NAC, was treated to something of a European tour in the late 1950s as part of a team to assess replacement aircraft for the ageing Viscounts. For his specialist part, he was persuaded that the Friendship was the right one, and so it proved to be.

I used to fly from New Plymouth to Wellington on these in the 80´s when I was a young apprentice. A sturdy aircraft.

Sure does bring back memories. Use to fly from Wellington to Gisborne when I was 12 with my mum. (1972) Loved the sound of those high pitched Rolls Royce dart engines too!.

My first flight was in BXG (School Charter, Waiopehu College) out of Palmy, round trip over the Central Volcanic Plateau as part our Geography Studies for the year, ‘76 I think. Loved flying ever since.

The first aircraft I flew on - as an ATC cadet - for a quick 30 minute trial over Cape Palliser, 6 June 1974.

Where is the rest of the program? It is great to see that the Fokker F-27, and later the F-28 was the back bone of the domestic routes in NZ and AUS. It was also the same in Norway. I love the F-27, and the F-28! It has done an outstanding job in one of the hardest climate and terrain in the world. The F-27 was used in the same way both in Norway and in NZ. The use of the F-28 were polar oposits. In Norway they could have as many as 16 cycles a day. In Australia they set a world record for flying the longest F-28 flight. I think it was like Perth-Broom. That is more than 3,5h one way. When BU (Braathens S.A.F.E. sold its F-28 they had 76` cycles and 35`hours! That is like 28 mins pr flight. Between the cities of Bergen (BGO) and Stavanger (SVG) it is 170km, or a minimum of 5h by car, or 20 mins by plane. That is Norway for you!

It was actually flying out of Auckland to Wellington. I recall seeing the full documentary years ago. Be nice to see it again rather than this abreviated version
