Many thanks for posting this video. It shows my uncle - 00:46 - who made the maiden flight of the F-27 and flew the plane all over the world for markelting porposes.

I'm old. I remember with affection the Fokker Friendship. East African Airways had them. I flew many comfortable hours between Nairobi and Mombasa. It is a shame Fokker is no longer. They built superb aircraft.

Adrian Larkins I never flew in one but I remember EEA and their VC 10s...seeing them in Nairobi on stop-overs on way from Joburg to Europe...todays flying experience just doesn't come close

I flew them many times between Växjö-Copenhagen back in the 80s. This was of course before the Öresund Bridge was built. The journey took about 45 minutes.

I love the Fokker, and I have flown all of them, as pax only. In Norway Braathens S.A.F.E. (BU) was no.2 in line to fly the F-27. They flew home the their first, of 8, in 8 yrs a few days before Christmas in 1958. The next came just after easter in 59. The aircraft it replaced was DH-114 Heron. Talk about an upgrade! The F-27 flew mainly domestic in Norway. 10yrs later it was time to upgrade once more. The same thing again. LTU was first to pick up but BU was first to fly. The 3rd march 1969 the F-28 made it debut flight. By aug they had five F-28s. Sadly BU had the first fatal accident with the Fellowship. The 23rd des. a F-28 had a CFIT on appr. into FBU 40/45 died. They fased out the F-27 in 1976 and the F-28 in 1986. Here is how the F-28 was used in Norway. They had 76` TC and 35` TT! In Australia they used the the other way around. Lol! The F-50 is lovely plane. Likewise the F-70 and F-100. The F-50 I flew with SAS. The other two with Malev and AA. I miss Fokker! The ATR is awesome! Now I am a big fan of the EMB E1 and E2. I have not flown the A-220, yet. Fly safe and stay safe!

Wonderful, beautiful airplane. I worked up close and personal with the F27 for years during the 1980s while working for Horizon Air. I'll never forget the sound of those Rolls Royce Dart engines, and as odd as it may be, their purring at idle warms my heart and reminds me of those long ago days.

My love of airplanes started with the F27 when I was a 4-year old kid during the 70s. The F27 (operated by Malaysian Airlines System, as it was then known) was about the only type of aircraft that came to my "little" town back then. Flew on it perhaps 10-15 times, last time being in Dec 1980. Fond and nostalgic memories of it..... what a shame Fokker is no longer around, and even the F50 looks to be on its way out.....

Flew in these several times between Nairobi, Mombasa and Malindi during early 60s. East African Airways had three in those days. I liked the earlier DC3s but F27s were a definite improvement.

Plane spotting at Heathrow in the early 70's and Terminal 2 was surrounded by these. Brits didn't buy into them we had Viscounts. I remember 'Air Inter', 'Rouseau Aviation' and maybe 'Balair' as having fleets of these. By the 70's the likes of KLM, Air France etc must have sold them all to feeder airlines.

Absolutely a beautiful airplane. I remember back in the 60's, at the Livermore Airport, the Lawrence Livermore Radiation Lab. kept one of these birds parked there. I used to walk up to her and ogle her. That was back in the day that a civilian could walk onto the tarmac and look at airplanes. Can't do that anymore.

As a kid, I'd flown in the Indian Airlines' F27. I still remember the beautiful large oval shaped windows. And with a parasol configuration, everyone was assured a grand view of the scene below.

If you want a translation just ask. It is a really fascinating test flight and it just amazes me how they do this right over peoples houses. Incredible film shots at 15.48. Also seeing it bank INTO the powered engine. Some plane. Almost perfect proportions and good example of if it looks right it flies right. Lekker. Tot Ziens.

The old Frontier Airlines (1960's) flew the F27 turbo prop along with the DC3.
@TheCannonofMohammed
@TheCannonofMohammed 8 жыл бұрын
+Gregory Fisher I used to work for Frontier and we never had the F27. It was a great airplane for low altitude airports, but where we flew it didn't have enough power. We used Convair 340's & 580's (turboprops) along with Convair 600's we got from our merger with Central Airlines. We phased out the 600's and eventually had a fleet of 737's and Convair 580's.

Such a shame these beautiful birds are no longer flying. The closest I can get to seeing an F-27 these days is at the Caloundra Air Museum. I still remember arriving by car at Sydney's Kingsford Smith airport in the early 70's and the first thing you would hear when getting out of the car was the beautiful screaming noise if the Rolls Royce turbo props on the F-27.

I want that wooden model they were making early on. I wonder where it is and where all the wonderful promotional models used in travel agents and airline offices for every plane from those days? How could anyone ever just throw one away. Shame.

Great footage. My very first airline flight, and second ever flight, was as a teenager in the (southern) summer of 1961-62 -- aboard an NAC Friendship (New Zealand's National Airways Corporation) for the short hop across Cook Strait from Wellington to Nelson. Some domestic flights that I made during 1979 both in NZ and Australia still used the venerable F27. Is this excellent doco available with English subtitles?

Funny, the commentator says at 14:08 that they're going to restart the starboard engine (stuurboord) where it's clearly the port enigine. Great plane, flew 3 or 4 times in it. A shame the company doesn't exist anymore, should never have happened....

Oh, I loved the F-27, don't get me wrong. I loved being able to see the landing gear touch down, etc. I just had more than just a few friends go partially deaf from working around those Rolls Royce Darts (but it was their own fault---they were too cool to wear ear muffs!)

Ears were a definite MUST HAVE around most any real aircraft. I flew 118's, CV 580's and C-9's (which I hated, boring) worked on the roof with F-4's, A-6's and 7's, RA5C's and Hummers... all LOUD! >huh
