Nice work! I would say most of us are purists here in Wisconsin- it’s always Korbel, and it’s nearly always 7up. You order this at the bar as a “brandy old fashioned sweet”, although most bartenders here will serve you exactly that if you just ask for an old fashioned. It’s a great drink, I think- sweet but packs a wallop and cuts through the richness of a lot of the traditional Wisconsin foods.

Almost called you out on missing the cherry before muddling! lol. But then you remembered. Us Wisconsinites pronounce the brandy name as "Core-bell", btw. 🙂 Awesome job though, you nailed the recipe!!!!!

Haha right?! I almost made a fatal mistake!! Lol “Core-bell” actually makes more sense, and I think I try to say that but it just comes out “core-bowl” 😂

Nice work. It is a tasty cocktail. It usually tastes better after the ice steeps for a few minutes to achieve the perfect balance. That's one reason why some people prefer crushed ice - because it steeps a bit faster.

From Northern WI well done.. Almost everybody does it sweet up here with Korbel. Although lots of people are making theirs with bourbon... Buffalo Trace is the thing right now. I like that one or Makers Mark...

Nicely done! I take mine "brandy old fashioned sweet, with green olives"

The only thing I would mention is to be careful to not muddle the rind of the orange. Cheers Bud!

I prefer a brandy old fashioned sour. Squirt works well for the sour as Graf’s 50/50 is no longer available. Now you need to make brandy slush for Christmas.

A dash of bitters varies greatly on the bottle and how full it is. I’ve come across bottles that poured so heavy one dash was too much. That bottle was pouring super aggressively based on what I could see.

Some of the supper clubs in Wisconsin put a cinnamon stick in them. (that was back in the 60s)

You did very well but if you go sour garnish with 2 to 3 olives and maybe a little more sour this way on Friday fish night you can have 3 to 4 of these during dinner 😂😂 but well done welcome to the club😊🎉

So the Wisconsin Old Fashioned Sour should be garnished with pickled mushrooms. Also a lot of the farmer bars out near the Horicon Marsh area use sour mix instead of the Squirt.

How many changes can one make to a drink and still call it a riff on a cocktail? Not a question for you persay but for the Wisconsin folks. Korbel definitely is a good bottle. Good stuff sir.

I agree completely, Id hardly call it a spin on the drink, and just wisconsins own creation!

That’s the honor that comes with being the state that consumes more alcohol than any other and it’s not even close, its our old fashioned and everyone else has to like it.

I get so upset when I order an Old Fashioned at a restaurant or bar and I know I can make it better! They don't even squeeze the orange in there. What the hell. I love watching a bartender do it properly, though. Also a Wisconsinite knows you're going to be asked if you want it sweet or sour.

get rid of the muddled fruit get rid of the pop get rid of the brandy. keep the sugar cube keep the bitters add a bar spoon of water. muddle the bitters water and sugar cube into a slurry add 2 oz. rye whiskey one large ice cube. stir for 30 seconds to dilute and chill the drink. cut a swath of orange peal without the pith twist over the top of the drink to express the oils on top of the drink. put the peal into the glass along the side as a garnish. enjoy
