I got a Smoke Top as a gift and just winged it for my first creation. I used Angostura Bitters, Peychaud's Bitters, 2 oz bourbon (1792 Small Batch), 1/2 oz Fernet Branca, 1/2 oz Licor 43, 1/2 oz sweet vermouth and a splash of Luxardo cherry syrup. The smoke works very well with all of these ingredients and I probably overdid the smoke but it still works. This turned out better than I could have imagined and I've dubbed it: Camping with the Sopranos

@Yurkevich222 жыл бұрын
Here's an idea, can you try this? Put the big ice cube in the glass, then smoke the glass with ice in it (no drink yet). The ice will cool the smoke and make it sink to the bottom of the glass (theoretically).THEN pour the drink into the glass - I wonder if the smoke will infuse better that way instead of just sitting on the top. Nonetheless, that's an interesting experiment.
@devonmoe67632 жыл бұрын
It’s all to taste. You could do something like this, which would be the equivalent or close to the equivalent of stirring in the smoke. Stirring in the smoke will destroy the natural tones of the bourbon. If you are someone who likes extremely peaty scotch…. Maybe that is for you though! Cheers 🍻

This is a dangerously delicious way to enjoy an old fashioned or Manhattan. I recently over indulged myself to the tune of 4 smoked old fashion cocktails at Speaks restaurant in Bradenton, Florida. The smoke, the Bourbon quality, the bitters and the fruit do a great job of fast consumption! I felt like I was getting extremely buzzed off of some type of liquid candy! Enjoy responsibly everyone.

An alternative and cheaper way to do this is to swing by your local grocery, pick up a bag of wood chunks for a smoker and cut a slice off a large chunk (about the size that would cover your glass) and grab a forstner bit drill half way down and then drill a small hole through the center of that little "cup," fill with shavings of your choice of wood and light it up over your glass. It's also a great way to try this method, before you come back to help support his channel and buy the smoke top.

Very cool! I still prefer to smoke in carafe and swirl it a bit to infuse the flavors a bit more 👍🏻 but this makes a great tool for sure
@TrufflesOnTheRocks3 жыл бұрын
You see, I never enjoyed the carafe method. It’s always too much for my taste and I always felt that the smoke, being trapped, easily starts to taste like old hashtray. I guess I don’t do it I it should be. But believe me, that little smoke top input just enough taste (to my taste) to the old fashioned. I will try to smoke my mixing glass and stir it with the smoke next time. It will probably add even more taste

@TrufflesOnTheRocks3 жыл бұрын
it doesn't work for everything that's for sure. But when used the right way on the right cocktail, smoking a drink can really elevate it. But it's true that it needs to be done wisely. To add too much just for the show will yield something un drinkable. Cheers!

hi there, coming from bbq smoking, normally we do not find the white plume of smoke very tasty. you want to wait until it is almost see thru. so maybe if you could do a mini update of smoking it on the side, wait a second, then place the smoke top on the glass? the white plumey smokey stuff is very bitter and ashy
@TrufflesOnTheRocks3 жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I have a hard time seeing how this could be done with that device though. Does it need to be continuous or we can stop the torch while we bring the smoke top on the glass after we smoke the first seconds?
@dylan-nguyen3 жыл бұрын
@@TrufflesOnTheRocks you might need to add a bit more of the wood, but once it is lit, and the orange flame just dies out on the wood, is when it should release the good smoke Basically, “good smoke” comes out in BBQ after the fire dies down Maybe you could try the above and then smell if right away to see if it still is releasing some smokiness Or maybe the white bitter smoke could be what tastes good with whiskey haha
@TrufflesOnTheRocks3 жыл бұрын
@@dylan-nguyen hahaha! Maybe 😉 No for real I’ll try. But I think this device is not designed to work that way. It’s actually the flame that push the smoke down. As soon as we stop the torch, the smoke also stops from being release towards the cocktail.

1:51 maybe I'm wrong, but isn't that description the exact definition of sponsored content? No judgment at all though, there's nothing wrong with sponsored content, especially for cool and exciting products that you actually believe in. 😀
@fabsconti3 жыл бұрын
so not really. I know where you are coming from, but it would be a sponsored video if they have actually paid him to show the product. Gifting someone the product is not considered sponsorship.

@@fabsconti Fair enough I suppose. I'm more familiar with how things work in the music industry, where an artist will have a sponsorship deal with a company where they are given free/subsidized gear like microphones or instruments in exchange for promoting the product, so I hadn't really thought of it as a gift. That's a good point though.

smoke your glass and ice cube while you mix the cocktail... you'll get a more intense flavor!!

That’s true. I realized it after a few tries. Tbh, I also like it with more aroma and less flavour sometimes .
