In Puerto Rico is been a tradition lately to add other flavors like Nutella. And using a Puerto Rican run would be better. LOL Also we use more rum. Like a lot more.

Eso de Nutella y otros sabores en el Coquito son aberraciones para gente que no sabe lo que es bueno. I agree that the only Rums to use in Coquito is DonQ or Pitorro. Don't use Bacardi (aka Guano, Mucielaguina)

Puertorican away from home here. Like he said there are hundreds of different variations on this. I've seen people add chocolate, some cherry. I am happy to see such a traditional drink from home, specially how to make the coconut cream from scratch since it's not easy to find in some States. However, this is the first time I see it without the egg and with nutmeg. My family throws in some cloves and other things I am forgetting to the mixture at the beginning.

Bacardi Rum is not Puerto Rican rum nor is it traditional in coquito. Traditional coquito is made with pitorro, DonQ or other PR rum like Palo Viejo.
@chiledawgg
@chiledawgg 6 жыл бұрын
@@MarioPerez-ks3rx understandable, all puerto ricans are different though! i'm puerto rican and my family, along with many others we know, follow the tradition I stated. my grandparents and their family members immigrated to the NYC area a long time ago were part of that community, so maybe it's more cultural to that area :) not really sure, but I trust you!

@@chiledawgg I actually prefer Bacardi Rum, but yeah, most Puerto Ricans actually dislike Bacardi. If you make a cuba libre with Bacardi in PR, odds are they won't like it. I know cause I was also a bartender. But keep using Bacardi, it's great.

Great recipe! The agua de especias, (spice water) we also use 8 cloves, 5 star anis along with 3 cinnamon sticks. I personally use the grated nutmeg and cinnamon as a garnish on top. And usually I use regular water to boil down into almost a very runny, dark syrup, reducing the liquid over two thirds than the original amount. Due to it being cheaper and using coconut milk and cream to make the coquito. But the coconut water is a great thing. Its also common to see Pistachio coquito made with the addition of pistachio ice cream, this might make for a thicker end result with with some chopped pistachios might make a nice garnish without sinking. I say might as I'm not a fan of it and just haven't made it myself. But an assortment of flavors and variations are popular. And.lastly, happy holidays!

My wife makes a variation of this with vanilla ice cream. It makes it really thick, almost like you’re drinking an adult milkshake and obviously uses A LOT of rum but you can’t really taste it. I think also using an añejo type rum such as bacardi or palo viejo makes the drink more authentic. Normally too the alcohol is already mixed in the drink not added after.

Do you know of any mead based cocktails? I've been experimenting and having fun making mead but now I have literally gallons of it in various flavors. I have an almost 20% ABV apple mead (ciser), a ~10% candy cane and a 5% cranberry hydromel. They're all fine to good on their own (I'm still learning) but I wondered if there are other things I can make with them.

I really like this channel in that it expands my cocktail repertoire However, I've noticed that a lot of drinks, unlike the coquito mentioned here, contain at least one element of either coffee or citrus. Are there other beverages like this one that have neither of these flavors in their profile? If so, could you introduce them to us, the non- citrus, non- coffee lovers who want to join our drinking buddies at the bar?

Out of curiosity, why is the dilution “much needed”? Is it because you’re using a lot of rum (it doesn’t sound like it has much more alcohol than your cocktails usually do) or because the rum you’re using has a high alcohol content, or what?
