Results like these at this tournament are expected. Saying that a certain result is shocking, isn't really shocking, as of late. The media likes to blow things out of portion. Grass isn't Iga's favorite surface, nor is it Gauff's; YET. The YET is specifically for Gauff. This tournament has shown that Iga isn't as invincible as everyone would like to believe. No player is. Coco has just turned 20 in March. She already won her first GRANDSLAM last year, whilst she was still a teenager. Coco has time to develop her game and become one of the most dangerous all court players. Mark my words; once Coco develops her forehead and service game, she will be SCARRY TOUGH to handle. People forget that Brad said that fixing her forehand and service game is not magic, and there is no quick fix. Congratulations to Emma, thus far; but I don't think she will win the entire tournament. I'll be surprised, but I don't think so.

@marcusgraham5084 I agree with most of your commentary; however, I'm not sure why you're elaborating about Coco? Both Iga and Coco are young players who are still developing their game. The difference is that Iga has already reached QFs at Wimby and Coco, not yet. They both failed this year

Why? SHe isn't better than Iga. Iga has more success even at Wimbledon, got to QF last year. Gauff never did. The beginning of her draw was just too easy, nobody hard to beat until Navarro came into picture.

America is desperate to have reparations delivered via black stars in traditionally white sports. It’s the reason they are so overhyped. There is an odor of desperation associated with reversing the past with unabashed virtue signaling. The player, if not grounded in reality, becomes prone to believing all the hype to the point they become derailed into promoting a myriad of social propaganda, TV advertising, and losing focus.

I think the media are overestimating Coco Gauff. She only got one slam title. Until she is a mulitple slam champion the press expecting too much. She hasn't done anything big outside United States. Emma Navarro had one big match win. We will see if Navarro can keep it up.

Being an NCAA champion is a big thing that also means Emma has faced the 'white heat' of competition at an emotionally high level. Emma actually outplayed Coco who couldn't match her intensity or will to win. Again, the draw opens up for Emma and Lulu. Still think Elena has Wimbledon champion write large.

Coco went out the first round last year and went on to win the US Open Championship. Great job Emma. Rybakina looking good and on to the Quarters. Gauff/Pegula on to the Doubles Quarters with win today. At 20, Coco won a Grand Slam in both Singles and Doubles. Great career imho.

It's not laughable ... and the reason is that Iga is NOT good on grass. I am NOT saying that Coco is great on grass but she is better ON GRASS than Iga, hence the reason for them saying that Coco is a bigger shock. This has NOTHING to do with Iga's accomplishments.

Gauff had an off day and Navarro has improved over time. Top 30 WTA in particular is very competitive and could be unpredictable so respecting the opponent's potential is necessary. However video titles like "MAJOR UPSET" and "VICTIM OF CHAOS" are likely to draw more viewers to the channel so arguments and debates are inevitable.

I don’t see her winning any other major other than the U.S. Open for the next few years. Iga is completely dominant at the French Open at the moment and is still very young, and Coco’s game is just not at all suited for the fast courts of the Australian Open and Wimbledon. I still think she has a shot at another U.S. Open or two due to the crowd support that she gets there.

No way. Stephens plays like she's not really interested, and this is nothing new. So many matches where she barely even moves for shots, makes little to no effort. It's been so obvious that even commentators have pointed it out. I wonder if she's just doing enough to try to stay in the game, get paid , and revel in the celebrity of being a pro tennis player. I've seen many of her matches where her coach, others in her box show more interest, enthusiasm, etc for her match than she does.

@@lisaa7524 I agree with what you have said about Sloane. It seems to me that she has lost interest in the game. It seems to me that she does not have the burning desire. NOT all players have that burning desire ... and Sloane seems to be one of them. I remember an interviewer asking her ( early in her career ) what her goal/ ambition was. Sloane replied that it was to win A grand ( major ) slam ....and that is exactly what she has done... won "A" grand slam.
