You didn't know what chorizo is but you knew who El Santo was? Talk about whiplash. Anyways, Dia de Los Muertos is basically a "nobody is really dead if you remember them/keep them in your heart" kind of celebration. When somebody is "forgotten", according to folklore, they truly are gone.

Whiplash was his assumption that the line he meant was “tits they sag to the floor”- that was whiplash 😂

I have been a Hospice Nurse for over 24 years and have taken care of many people with Alzheimer's, which is a type of Dementia. Quite often they may call a family member by the name of a different family member because in their memory the current person may remind them of the other. Also music is stored in the brain differently that regular speech. So it is possible for someone to be able to sing when they have not been able to talk. Also for some people they can remember things that happened decades ago but can't remember what just happened. This movie does a good job helping explain it. I will also admit that the last scene makes me tear up every time I see it. Well done, Pixar.

There's part of the movie, when the character of Don Rickles smiles, shows his brackets and says "Gracias", shows that his dentist has an altar with his photo on it, with a great big brackets smile on there. With a little of attention, it shows that the altar is on the same consulting room of Finding Nemo. That means that, an Australian dentist, celebrates Day of the Dead. And that means that anybody can celebrate and embrace this tradition, you don't have to be mexican, you can be any race you are or being in any country you want. You can celebrate the life of your deceased ones, the memories you have with them, and put some of the things they loved while alive. Day of the Dead is a cultural shock of what you're being taught, about letting people go. Day of the Dead is all the opposite, is about never letting go, is about always have your loved ones on your memories, because the moment they are forgotten, is the moment they are truly dead.

To answer your question, I don't know what the policy is, but Imelda's siblings are on the ofrenda - the twins, Oscar and Felipe are her younger brothers. Miguel therefore calls them Tio - Uncle. So Generation One - Mama Imelda, Tio Oscar, Tio Felipe. Generation Two - Papa Julio (married to Coco), Tia Rosita (sister of Papa Julio). Generation Three - Tia Victoria (the daughter of Julio and Coco, and sister to Miguel's grandmother). Great reaction, thanks.

33:15 to be fair it's great if somebody is old in the afterlife because it means they lived long enough in the land of the living. When you see young skeletons and the children in day of the Dead it's actually kind of depressing. To me that means they didn't get a chance in life.

Tradition says that on the "other side" you look the same as you did when you died. That's why Coco looks even older than her parents. And yes, you surely saw children, they come on November 1st.

That's the cool thing about 'Remember Me'. All throughout the movie, you keep hearing it played as de la Cruz's hit song, which just sounds like your typical generic love song. But then we find out who the ACTUAL writer of the song is, and what the actual original meaning of the lyrics are, and it becomes more personal and heartfelt

From a cultural standpoint, Coco means the world to me. The sheer respect for Mexican culture in this movie is just incredible. The music, the food & the preparations for The Day Of The Dead. The culture itself is part of who I am and it's very important, as is the message of the importance of family. Also, the customs agent in The Land Of The Dead was portrayed by funnyman Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias.

I must confess I didn't cry when they sang Remember me (is such a beautiful song tho), but i did when they see the Cempasúchil petals bridge for what it means: the way your loved ones come to visit you, my mom passed six years before this movie was released and, at least for me it was great to imagine her coming over, that's why Día de muertos is by far my favorite holiday. ❤

Mexican culture believes that when you die, you go to the other-world. And once a year, the gods allow you to return to your family. There is a bright orange-yellow flower that only blooms during october-november. In Mexico it's called Xempasuchil (in English it's pronounced: sehm-pah-zoo-cheel). The bright color of the petals guide the spirit of the dead back home to visit their families.

🎶 "Remember me, though I have to say goodbye / Remember me, don't let it make you cry" 🎶 Fun Fact: Southwest Airlines promoted Coco (2017) by having one of their Boeing airplanes decorated with artwork from the film. Location Location Fact: The look of the Land of the Dead is inspired by the Mexican city of Guanajuato, which has colorful houses placed on the hillsides in such a way that they look almost stacked. Music Enthusiast Fact: Miguel was originally only going to play guitar and not sing. When the director, Lee Unkrich, discovered Anthony Gonzalez was in fact a talented singer, it was decided Miguel would do both so Anthony could share this talent in the film. Mythology Fact: The orange flower seen throughout the film is the Aztec Marigold (known also as the Mexican Marigold or the Cempasúchil). The flower is used in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos in México to guide the deceased to the living. In México, the Xoloitzcuintli (the Mexican hairless dog depicted in the film) is the guide of the deceased through his/her way to the Mictlán (the underworld, the place where all the souls go after death).

"Where's the cat? GET THE CAT ONE!" -Best Dog Dad. Coco is special. The opening is Miguel speaking to the Mariachi, who is played by Two-National Treasure, Cheech Marin. Charro is the only non-Mexican performer featured as effigy. The ofrenda was important to be preserved because without it, Miguel would have not left the graveyard that night.

I just realised that the neck of Miguel's guitar has a row of teeth with a gold tooth in the mix (that he likely drew from the remaining photo of his family). Ernesto de la Cruz doesn't have a gold tooth but do you know who does? Hector.

Hey! As a Mexican and American I encourage you to try to set up an ofrenda (altar) for your beloved ones that are no longer with you. Try to spend some time remembering them and even telling stories about them to your friends and family. You may discover why it was an ancient tradition among the native cultures that lived in what today is México (and other countries)... I exonerate you of any cultural appropriation, we are all humans, learning from one another. I have been doing it for the last few years to pass the stories to my young children about my father and grandparents. It is therapeutic.

For me, a musical is a movie where people sing unrealistically. Like, they just sing what they’re thinking with no planning or forethought, and characters sometimes sing songs together, again, with no forethought, even when they start singing the same words at the same time. All the music in Coco is performances, so although it has a lot of music, Coco doesn’t count as a musical for me. I love watching Coco reactions, and this was a good one. It’s always neat to see at what point people figure out that Hector’s the real great great grandfather. You were aware that Hector and Miguel had better chemistry before you figured out the twist, and that was cool.

It's just as popular to react to this movie. If you want overlooked movies that people hardly remember or react to, I highly suggest: The Thief Of Bagdad (1940) Charlotte's Web (1973) Wizards (1977) The Hobbit (1977) Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes (1978) Popeye (1980) Inseminoid (1981) Heavy Metal (1981) The Last Unicorn (1982) The Flight Of Dragons (1982) The Secret Of NIMH (1982) Annie (1982) Spacehunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone (1983) Fire & Ice (1983) The Adventures Of Mark Twain (1985) An American Tail (1986) Solarbabies (1986) Cherry 2000 (1987) The Gate (1987) Hell Comes To Frogtown (1988) Robot Jox (1989) Kaena: The Prophecy (2003)

Not everyone has time to sit down and watch every single movie that is released at certain times. Clearly people have lives taking care of themselves than sitting down all day watching movies. Some movies are accepted to be watched screen-to-screen without copyright infringement so don’t be too hard on your favorite reactors saying “I’ve never heard/seen this movie” relax and watch your favorite movies yourself and when they react to it then you can put your two cents in.
