Absolutely loved this movie! Do want to say sorry for all the blurs I had to use as I normally do not like to have to use blurs but this was the hardest video copyright wise and after 25 uploads Disney is finally letting me keep it (for now) Also I know the camera was a little out of focus sometimes so sorry for that but let me know if you want me to react to other disney movies in the comments!

The amount of preparation they did for this film was mind-blowing. Six years of travelling into Mexico, learning about different provinces, their Dia de Muertos customs, costumes, and more... They cast one boy for Miguel's voice, to do early animation tests, but he aged as they were making the film, and his voice changed, so he was replaced by the kid who did his final voice, and got cast as the stage-hand who lets Ernesto know he has thirty seconds. The kid who voiced Miguel comes from a Mariachi family, too, so he's actually singing. Interesting to consider the fact that many cultures value the transmission of stories about ancestors, from generation to generation, to ensure that a person lives on in the memories of the family (community, etc.). It's a lesson we could all learn today. The body dies, but we live on in the memories we make for other people.

Something about Coco looking her age in the afterlife, but her parents still doting on her despite looking quite a bit younger really touched me. Like a reminder that no matter how old you get you are still your parent's beloved child.

To me it makes no sense that her mom looks younger than her tbh. I get why her dad Héctor looks like he does cause he died young but does that also mean her mom also died young? Otherwide shouldn't she be an old lady too in the land of the dead? I get why they did it that way tho cause it would have been weird if she looked like an old lady while Héctor still looked young lol but yeah it's kinda inconsistent tbh

Something interesting about when Miguel finally gets his blessing: 1. It's from Hector, his great great grandfather, who he'd set out to get it from in the first place. 2. It didn't have any conditions attached to it. Because THAT'S what familial love is supposed to be. Unconditional. You can't force someone to live your way, because that would kill them in the long run. And here, that's taken literally.

12:20 Seb, this isn't tap-dancing, but it is a little similar. In Ballet Folklorico, or Mexican folkloric dance, we do a lot of footwork. We do rhythmic shuffling, tapping, and stomping to act as percussion in the music and they accentuate certain beats in the melody to highlight those parts of the storytelling in the lyrics of the song, and in the story the choreography tells. I grew up doing this type of dance (the female part, of course however the male part is also important to the stories). The dance styles and costumes are regional to each state of Mexico, and they're highly narrative; they tell stories/legends AND serve as beautiful performances at the same time.

Music is SUCH a powerful tool to combat dementia and Alzheimer's, because the part of the brain the houses musical ability and memory is different than the part that houses the rest of our memories. This is why there are dancers and musicians in very old age who suffer from those conditions can still remember songs from their childhood or their favorite melodies to play or dance to.
