Could you guys do a video on Whelen's newest lightbar, their Edge 9X series? I'd like to see a demo of their taller version of the 9X.

Definitely😁 We don't have this bar yet but will demonstrate it when we get one.

I'd love to see a larger video on different manufacturers computer controlled "smart" products. How lights can be configured, factory brakes / indicators etc integrated with both OBD and non OBD supported vehicles etc.

If anything is having a blue/red light install, it should have an OBD2 port. If it doesn’t, it’s too old to be a service vehicle. Unless it doesn’t respond on lights and sirens.
@35manning
@35manning Жыл бұрын
@@shreks_microwave1063 they don't just sell red and blue lights. Nor do they sell exclusively to the USA. There are firetrucks in Australia that are over 30 years old and still in active service. There are custom off road tow trucks being built today that are road legal, but do not have OBD. There is construction and speciality emergency service vehicles that do not have OBD and operate on the roads. There are also cases where you may want non OBD data sources to link in, such as a low water sensor in a firetruck or an over temperature alarm for a police dog unit, so you can be alerted to the situation. OBD is not the answer EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Do you mean longer video? An OBD has nothing to do with lightbars or lights, an OBD is how you communicate with the car and it's computer.
@35manning
@35manning Жыл бұрын
@@albinoguidedog sorry, I do mean longer video. Also, a number of smart siren controllers support OBD and/or CAN bus input to detect vehicle functions, like brake lights activated etc. You can then program your lights based on those inputs.
@albinoguidedog
@albinoguidedog Жыл бұрын
@@35manning keyword is "support", they don't use it but can if it's needed. The brake light features can be done without the OBD. Also you don't program lightbars and aux lights through the OBD, you can program the OEM lights at are on the car but aftermarket doesn't use the OBD.

Great video and product too but at some point the manufacturers need to look at the cable entry points to make the install smooth and easy for all vehicles

The problem is that every vehicle is different.

@@albinoguidedog drilling a small hole causes less damage compared to a large hole. Having a wide flat cable that can sneek through the doors fits better than a thick round cable. Using two wires for combined power deliver and data communication means smaller cable to route. And given that vehicle manufacturers already do custom versions of vehicles for law enforcement and emergency services, surely those vehicle manufacturers and lighting manufacturers could work out some sort of standard. I mean, imagine if emergency vehicles came with a "USB" socket on the roof to plug in any brand of light bar into. * USB is being used as an example of industry wide cooperation into a standard, it does not support enough power delivery to ACTUALLY be used for a lightbar.
@albinoguidedog
@albinoguidedog Жыл бұрын
@@35manning do you know how light bars even works? A normal car battery and alternator would die from a light bar, that's why law enforcement packages have bigger/heavy duty alternators and batteries to handle the lights. Also a USB is very different technology, and many manufacturers don't even have USB ports in there cars still.
@35manning
@35manning Жыл бұрын
@@albinoguidedog are you telling me that a modern LED light bar would kill a modern cars battery and alternator? Well, based on one manufacturers advertised specification of 0.5 amp at 12v per LED module, you are looking at less than 200 watts of power assuming every single module was illuminated on steady burn. So, please explain how that will kill a battery and alternator when a 12,500lbs electric vehicle winch drawing around 300 amps (or 3,600 watts) of power doesn't kill the battery and alternator. And if you actually read my post, you will see where I clearly (without editing) stated that I used USB as an EXAMPLE of COOPERATION and that it was NOT a suitable standard to use in this scenario. Industry CAN work together to produce a single standard connector that, works with all brands and a wide range of accessories.
@albinoguidedog
@albinoguidedog Жыл бұрын
@@35manning that's exactly what I'm telling you. Certain vehicles can handle the power drain better than others (ie trucks). Those specs are correct but the power drain of the battery is what kills the car. A electric winch when being used drains a car battery (and power depending on the car). And yes brands could work together but that's rarely how the world works, companies like doing their own thing to get money. Also all the lightbar companies already have the same wiring layouts but different styles so asking them to work together would defeat the whole point of having different brands.

Flash Patterns are adjusting through Code 3's Matrix software. In this you can select the modules, colors, and how they flash and sync.

So I know this is on your website as a tri color but…… with it being tri do you by any chance know if I can use an amber TA or do I have to make use of different colors for that
@SIRENNET
@SIRENNET Жыл бұрын
Good question - The back of this Lightbar is Blue/Red/Amber tricolor. The T/A makes use of the Amber color LEDs. You could also set it up in blue or red if wanted.
