Code 3 MX7000 back to life!

I bought this light bar off Craigslist for $25. When I bought it they had an intersection sweep light mounted on the top, in the center, mounted on a piece of wood. They had a couple other lights installed, but it was all wrong. Alley lights where the intersection sweep lights should be mounted, only one flasher bulb and none of the 4 main rotators were installed correctly and missing parts. I bought some supplies, a flasher, etc -- remounted things where they're supposed to go, rewired everything and it's back!! Yes, I know it's noisy and I'll fix that over time in my spare time and have other domes I may put on it, but the main thing is....it's back from the dead!!

Yup, can't beat $25.00 for one of these. Even though it needed a lot of work when I bought it - it was worth it. I'm glad it's working again, just need to work on it being a little noisy. They are great bars, I still like them compared to the new LED stuff.

Well done with bringing the lightbar back to life! Some people would have just discarded it. I'm a collector so I would never discard a light if it were broken.

Thank you! I should have taken a video of it before and after. It definitely needed work, wiring, etc. I bought it cheap so it was nice buying it cheap and getting it to work again! I collect myself, halogen rotator style for the most part except for a few. Fun hobby! Thank you for watching!

Where does one begin collecting these types of lightbars?

I've bought several bars that were listed on Craigslist. Craigslist is a good place to go because you can search by state and city so you can find something close to where you live. I've also used sites like Ebay and Elightbars. Ebay and Elightbars are good sites where you can also get parts for them if you need parts. I am also starting to see them listed on Facebook Marketplace if you use Facebook. People also go to auction sites like Purple Wave or police auctions. I hope that helps!

What year was these lightbars used?

I was a dispatcher at a sheriff's office from 1995-1998 and the deputies had these and the Streethawks. I'm sure they were in use before that time though and some smaller agencies may still even use them today even though most have switched to LED.

There's a couple MX7000's on EBay right now, but you might have to buy domes for the color you want. Have you checked elightbars site? Keep an eye on Craigslist, too. I bought this one on Craigslist for $25.00 I believe it was. It was a steal of a price once I got it fixed up and running again.

This light bar was a mess when I bought it. The previous owner had it with one working rotator and then an intersection sweep light in the top middle section. Wiring was a mess also. This video was taken after I worked on it about 8 hours to get it up and running again so I was just happy to make a video of it working again. To answer your question, the motors still needed fine tuning/lubricated when I made the video. All motor light bars have some noise, but it's not near as noisy now that it's fixed.

Yes, it needs some work on the noise. My primary goal was to get it going again. It was a "rescue" bar I saved - bought it cheap - and it was all messed up when I got it. Good thing is, it's up and running again!! Hard part is done, now just need to fine tune it.

@@douglasbollinger3626 Lights up better than some LEDs, but I never knew that it was so noisy? However it’s worth the public safety it provides, when your along dense interstate, urban traffic. If you place a clear lenses, and red over driver’s side & blue over passengers side, you are able to utilize as a Police emergency responders overhead anywhere in the US .

@@jesterflight8593 It's more noisy than it should be, it's a fixer upper. These motor style light bars are a little noisy even with new motors. It will be brighter, too, when I work on polishing the domes and I'll work on the noise. Just glad it's working again.

@@douglasbollinger3626 It’s still a beautiful product of Federal Signal Night Hawk series. And will hold up for countless years, I think it could be interfaced with the rotators & flashers instead of halogen bulbs?
