Awesome project and cool way to get the massive address capability along with easy visual feedback!

there is Ralay modules with optocoppler and transistor onboard. you can use some "pin extender" (shift register or I2C or Mega2560) . for convinience i recomend to implement a SD Card module with timing file, so you programm the µC only once and change only the file on SD card.

That’s a great idea, would make configuration for a show much easier. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching!

Really nice project! Interesting mechanism with the DIY opto-isolator, could be very useful for other projects that need isolation. Was the main reason you went for the addressable LEDs to get the required pin output? If so I wonder if simply multiplexed shift registers might be a better method? (If the wires still need to be run individually from the control box), Alternatively you could simply use the WS2811 chip itself as the daisy chain slaves without the LED output and use it to directly control the transistors for each relay. I've also seen some people use black heat shrink to group the led and photo-resistor helps mechanically and with light. Awesome video!

Main reason for going with the light strand was so I could “see” the timing of the show without having to light fuses. I actually thought about shrink wrap from the LED to the photoresistor but would be a backup idea if the black boxes didn’t block enough light. I think we can all agree that using photoresistors is a bad idea to trigger bright fireworks. Was worried that they all could get triggered after the first one. Also thought the demux would be better but I don’t think you can have any combination on at the same time. Wanted that flexibility, let me know if that thinking is wrong. Great comment, it’s easy to see you have a lot of experience. Thanks for watching!

@@CodeMakesItGo Thanks, that makes sense! I like the novelty of it :D I think you might be onto something in terms of using lighting control though as if it could interface with something like DMX lighting control that could be great. With the shift register method, you could simply chain several together to get the required number of outputs just 3 32bit shift registers should be plenty and would provide the constant output you're looking for no need for mux. Otherwise I think a multiplexer method could work, you would need to cycle through the outputs to have multiple triggered simultaneously as you say which will reduce the power to the e-match however I shouldn't think it'd care if the frequency was high enough. An LED Driver With Single-Wire Interface chip could be goodfor the application, in terms of individually addressable, constant output, but without the need for the LED to Photodiode conversion, Could also put your own LED so that you could "see" the output and timing but would require a significant amount more soldering. Again thanks for the video, I'm still learning and just enjoy videos like this on KZbin (as I guess you do ha) and think you're putting out great stuff! Kinda makes me want to have a go at KZbin honestly

@@alessi4249 You really should go for it (KZbin), especially since it sounds like you are already building things on the side and you definitely have the skills, great suggestions. The toughest part for me is talking to the camera, I talk to computers all day so it is still uncomfortable for me but trying. Let me know if you want to do a collaborative project one day, could be fun!

Excellent idea, but waaaaay to much wires that can be ripped off or burned, especially because they are connected sequentially, if line is severed, you lose the rest. I would put everything in a large and robust enclosure with quick connect and run e-matches wires to that control box. I would also be worried light bleeding inside the modules from explosion, accidentally triggering other modules.

Totally agree, this was a concept that worked but has some significant flaws. The largest being, don’t use a light sensor to trigger bright explosions! Thanks for watching and the comment, hope you enjoyed the video.

Yes, and very good eyes! Some did not work (8 total), there were also some fountains off screen that did work but we couldn't see. The biggest miss was a series of 5 triggered at 10Hz, only 4 of them worked :-( Needs a redesign for Rev2 next year. Thank you very much for watching.

I'd stay away from using cheap Chinese 315 & 433mhz wireless. Bloody dangerous adding electric match to a non static canister shell which will leave the tube and snag due to it lifting. You didn't think about that

Yes! The internals for this box used a small remote relay. The link to the exact one is here: amzn.to/39I31Ph From there you can get any project box you'd like, I used something small like this: amzn.to/2YGoxPi and I used an illuminated toggle switch for Power. I couldn't find the exact switch but here is something similar: amzn.to/3rhLbK8. From there is depends on what you want to do with it but those are the main components. The remote relay is small, but you can use it to trigger a larger relay that can handle more current. Hope that helps!
