After doing the steps to connect the domain name i went to the website and i get application error page from heroku. What are some causes of this problem or how can i fix it. If i go to the herokuapp page it still works.

Heroku requires a credit card to confirm you are human..they do not charge the card unless you buy something...and custom domain is free as long as you already own the domain.

What do you mean by Google console? I don't know what that is. I don't know anything about any sort of verification process... I've never had to verify anything on Namecheap

That has nothing to do with registering your domain name and setting up your web hosting. It sounds like you're talking about Google Webmaster tools.. Forget about that for now. It's not part of this.

Man, you are so right about GoDaddy, it is a bad company with terrible customer service and a bunch of hidden charges. Their UI is pretty confusing and even the configuration of A records and CNAME is unclearly complicated.

Great video! Im using Heroku, namecheap, and Django so this is exactly what I was looking for; however, I keep getting an internal server error when I point my browser to my desired domain. Also tried setting the CNAME to the dedicated DNS target provided by Heroku and messed around with all the periods and slashes with no luck. Has anyone resolved a similar internal server error after purchasing the domain and following these steps? Thanks again for the video!

It takes a couple hours for the dns to refresh. Try restarting your computer.

Strangely, if I turn maintenance mode on for the app and point the browser to my domain name I see the standard Heroku maintenance mode banner. If I turn maintenance mode off I get the internal server error; and, the app is fully functional when I use the default Heroku name. Maybe another viewer has had this issue, posting a stack overflow question is usually my last resort. Thanks!

@@nkinney06 Did the app work at heroku before you added your domain? When you added your domain to heroku, did you type www. on the domain? Doing that or not doing that has an effect.

@@Codemycom Partial solution: I added my desired domain to the list of ALLOWED_HOSTS and set is as the BASE_URL in the Django app's settings.py (not such which - if either - helped). Im still getting SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN warning but the desired domain name is working. Will trouble shoot the warning next. Its cool you guys reply to these videos, Thanks!

That would take a lot of coding to build out a system for him to update all of those things. I can't answer that question in a text message like this...I would need a new course of videos teaching it. Yes, he can contact you when he wants to add things and you can charge him to add them.
