Codenames: Marvel Review - with Tom Vasel

I absolutely love Codenames and I love Marvel but this leaves me cold. I’d prefer the Disney one tbh.

I tried this one a few times, and it's the only Codenames iteration that has fallen flat for me. Your Marvel chops have to be really solid, as Tom said.

The nice think about Codenames is, that it can make you "feel clever", if you give or solve an amazing clue. And I don't think, that works the same with this kind of iteration. While Disney and Marvel would be a pass for me anyway, because I would be quite clueless (at least regarding the more recent Disney movies and pretty much all of Marvel), I assume, even themes, where I could contribute, like Miyazaki or Twin Peaks, would make me feel rather "geeky" then "clever". It might fail or still work, but scratch a completely different itch. The IP versions might be even more fun, if you have the right crowd for them, but the original will always be more satisfying.

Tom: “I know tons about marvel.” Wrongly calls kraven, Karnak. Says xmen and fantastic four are half the marvel universe. Me: “not even” lol 😂.

He calls him kraven the first time, so he knows how he's called. Also, the other thing, probably just a miss use of the word literally, FF and x-M are pretty big, or were (i don't know where they stand right now) and of course they propertys include The sh'iar and the skrulls as well as a rather large number of mutants. And it's not only their number, they also have a couple of the more interesting characters around, such as Doctor Doom, Franklin Richards, Beast, the Summer boys. So I wouldn't underestimate Tom's knowledge based in such petty things.

He does seem to know a lot about Marvel. Mistaking one "k" name for another hardly calls that into question. And yeah, the "X" side of Marvel does occupy a large chunk of real estate.

He actually called Kraven "Kraken", but I agree that hardly impugns Tom's Marvel knowledge in any meaningful way.

lol. yeah. i'm not having a go, but i'd never mix up two characters names. and if someone asked if i know about marvel i'd say, "i know a little bit", and i own 3,000 comics. maybe i'm more humble than i think.
