Quite literally the coolest thing I had ever seen. I remember the VHS tape, "Awakening" from the box set featuring it, and just watching this group of episodes on repeat. The Cell Jr. episode in particular because at that age you...dare i say "empathized" with Gohan watching his loved ones getting beat on. The whole sequence is just so well done, 16s head/speech and understanding of Gohan's pacifism, the way he delivers his final line "let it go", and then the bird in the background as he goes into SSJ2. Not only that, but to this point I don't think we saw such brutal, EFFICIENT fighting in the series. This guy Himhan was out there cooking them like steaks on a grill popping them in 1 shot with a full dead face. As a ~5 year old kid that straight up gave me chills, its still one the most badass pop off moments in anime for me to this day, maybe not top 5, but still prob cracks top 10.

He was pretty much my favorite character. It was nice to see him finally living up to the hype, actually being the strongest. Then it sucked to see him fail and Goku having to sacrifice himself. It kinda paid off with the last-stand one-armed kamehameha, but it felt aided by Goku. I was just a kid and wanted that boy to be the best, alone, by a mile. Then... eventually I saw the Buu saga... and as Codenamesuper wisely says, you just can't have favorite characters in this show.

Actually no, he wouldn't. The problem with Cell is that not only was he strong enough to take them all on at once, but unless you made sure to destroy all of him at once, he would just come back stronger because he had both the saiyan zenkai boost, the namekians regeneration on steroids and the frost demons, specifically frieza, survivability. Meaning that any fight with Cell where you don't massively overpower him from the get go is a fight that you will lose eventually, just like what happened with piccolo. Moreover, him lacking energy just means he would be even stronger when he comes back, after all when he blew himself up he used all of his powers yet still came back far stronger and with more energy than he had before which makes sense when you remember that he absorbed both 17 and 18 and their perpetual ki engine. Another thing that is often forgotten about Cell is that he was massively holding back against goku because he thought that they were still warming up whereas goku was going all out against him. Just the Cell juniors alone proves that Cell was vastly stronger than goku since they're weaker than him yet were cooking the z fighters. That senzu bean was entirely cosmetic. With or without it, Cell was still going to fold all of them on his own, whether by just overpowering them from the get go or surviving long enough for his saiyan-namekian-frost demon + infinite ki regen combos do it for him
