Found this playlist while researching about my girlfriend’s 2020 Palisade. She started the oil consumption test process at about 80k. The last result at 93-94k was 3qt in 1000 miles. Hyundai tried everything (UV due to check for external leaks, combustion chamber cleaning, replaced oil pan and filter mount gasket). It took 13 oil consumption checks, but it’s at the dealer now getting a new engine installed under warranty.

The problem is due to the strict emissions standards low tension piston rings are used to reduce friction and increase MPG's. During engine break in the rings may not get seated properly allowing oil to get past the rings. I was losing about 1qt every 5000 miles on my brand new Palisade.. At 10k miles my oil consumption stopped. Every 5k miles my dipstick is now exactly on the "F" mark. No more oil loss.

@bml33Ай бұрын
That's an interesting hypothesis. Low tension rings to reduce friction. I think that the rings must be part of the problem, maybe low tension = weaker quality. Don't forget, the GDI system sprays fuel into the cylinder at very high pressure. These engines need strong high quality piston rings in the build.

I have a 2020 palisade just under 60k. And have this same issue. Only thought to check the oil because my husband found your videos. My palisade is burning about 6qts in 3k miles, so I'm not making it from oil change interval to the next. Called Hyundai, they opened and escalated a case. And admitted that nearly every other call is about this issue. Hopefully will have resolution soon. In the meantime, driving with a funnel and quart of oil.

It's sad that Hyundai is acting like this isn't an issue. I hope they change their tone soon.

At very least we need go know when the oil is low.. 2nd my engine has grinded metal on metal a handful of times this last year because of this issue so check and fix whatever issues. And replace the motor.. we shall see what happens.

Me and my wife bought our 2021 Palisade Calligraphy brand new in 2020. We get free oil changes through our dealership every 5k-6k miles. This April I was getting the truck washed, and noticed the truck shaking really bad (69k miles). Checked the dip stick it was bone dry. Took it to the dealership, (truck was burning oil) they said it’s a known issue. They said the engine will need replacement. 4 months with a rental provided from the dealership, and multiple calls to Hyundai Corp the new engine was installed (no charge to us) and they reimbursed me for the last few payments. Car is paid off, and we have warranty up until 125k. It was a headache but the truck seems great now. The dealership said the earlier models are the ones with the issue.

Thank you for this. Our new Palisade was a quart low when they delivered it. The service manager argued with me, and denied it was a quart low. I added a quart. Now at 1,000 miles, it’s a quart low. I can imagine what a headache this is going to be. My ‘07 Azera has 125K miles on it and has not burned a drop of oil.

Normally 6.9qts (round to 7). Today I got charged for 8! So no matter if i burn 1 qt or 2, its still going to reflect 1qt or roughly thereabouts. After we brought the car in for the initial assessment and oil change - low and behold we had a sudden and significant leak after that trip to the dealer. I'm guessing I wouldn't know I was burning "too much" oil because of how often I get the oil changed. Recently, Bluelink notified me that based on my driving habits I don't need an oil change until 7,500 miles. Based on what you're saying I won't have any oil in the car. Yikes! Mpg is 26-27mpg at 70-74mph SE TX AWD model as well. Qt per 1k is really bad. Too many people fell for 7k-10k interval meme. Old car was town car at 174k mile it doesn't burn any oil basically fill touching fill line and when I change it 5k later it's still touching fill line or like 1/32 of inch under fill line and sometime if I'm driving hard and speeding it's 1/16 under fill line and when I change oil it behave differently some premium brand will burn or evaporate more than another. Pennzoil platinum, amsoil, Mobil 1, motorcraft all behave differently but none of them even burn 1 qt per 5k. That's ridiculous bad.

@@CoderMan High interval allow oil to undergo more breakdown and become more acidic providing less and less protection to the piston rings longer you go. Especially in the initial break-in period is crucial. Also to keep rpm low by accelerating slowly for first 5k (I did that for whole first 10k) then on highway keep varying your speed from 65-85mph to avoid happy groove in the engine that happen from using cruise control at same speed for thousands upon thousands of miles.
