Yes I'm having the same problem. Blew a valve cover gasket within the first week of getting it from dealer. Started out with 76,000 miles in the odometer. Added 4 quarts and drove it back to the dealer. They fixed the problem. I checked the oil level when I picked it up and when I got home just to make sure. Level was fine. 3 weeks to a month later I added 5 quarts because I was also going through the vehicle feeling like it wanted to stall and not wanting to auto- shut off. Not sure where the oil is going but I have no leaks. I think we need to file a lawsuit against hyundai because from what I've read this is a major issue with these vehicles. Spent $60 extra on this for oil and I'm now due for an oil change.

This might be due to the LSPI issue they are having. Oil is getting passed the rings. I’m currently dealing with this.

Dude, this is an absolutely great video. I had the same issue with my 2020 Palisade. Wasn’t sure what it was. I thought it had something to do with either the fuel injector as coming to a stop it would hesitate. Took it to the dealership and turns out it was just low on oil The hesitation coming to a stop and the clicking noise that I heard upon accelerating from a stop, everything stopped. What a great video. I am literally going to stay on top of my oil level every other week. Glad nothing major happened from not having oil for about a week or so.

@@tavo3234 hey Tavo. Doing great! I’ve just had to stay on top of checking my oil. Since taking it into the dealership, I’ve already almost lost a quart. I bought 2 quarts the other day just to keep it on hand. A different problem now, my sunroof won’t fully shut! Haha. Have an appointment next week for that. I mean overall, I’ve been very happy with the vehicle. Just when it rains it pours. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I would always recommend for any modern car to 1/2 all of the intervals for preventative maintenance. The dealerships only care that the car makes it past the warranty period (all makes all models). I have a 2020 Santa Fe with the slightest oil consumption issue. 143k still averaging 26.7mpg mixed driving. Tires/brakes and scheduled maintenence

Very good point. My old M3 had a 15,000 mile oil interval. Of course I did it every 3 to 5000 miles but you know how many people out there just following the manufacturer recommendation.

Purchased a used 2018 Kia Sportage LX AWD with 29,000 miles. When I took it to my mechanic for it's first oil change he praised the car but warned me to keep an eye on the oil level for Hyundai's and Kia GDI engines burn oil. Currently at 78,000 miles, use full synthetic and go though 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil in a 5000 mile interval.

I'm having the same issue. I was back and forth between valvoline and changing it myself. Usually seemed to burn 1.5 qt every 5-7k miles. Valvoline changed at 70k, at 73k my car sputtered the same way yours did. Added 4.5-5 qts, no warning light. Just did an oil consumption test and hyundai said ALL manufacturers go by the 1qt/1k miles rule. Which is asinine and I can't believe is true. People aren't all out there changing or adding oil every week or two. The oil consumption test also just consists of them filling it out of my sight, then in 1k miles checking the dipstick. Who knows how much it ACTUALLY burned, just, "is it close to the full line? Yeah; close enough, it's fine."

Great video! My 2020 Palisade acted up close to the 59,000 mile range and had the same issues at stops with rough idling (engine vibrates). Took it to my mechanic of 30 years and he replaced the damaged spark plugs, but it still had some vibration in it. In checking again he noticed it had lost 5 quarts of oil and the oil change was due in 700 miles. All previous oil changes were done at the dealer. Ive made an appointment with them, lets see what sort of runaround i get with them. Will update you.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue. I have been doing all of my oil changes up until now at the dealership and never got feedback that it was low. I have 47,000 miles on a 2020 and just did my first oil change at home. About 4.5 qts came out. It was a surprise to me, so I will be tracking this between oil changes and will note the oil amount at the next change (5,000 miles). Also, I noticed the start/stop no longer happens. It stopped happening around 25K miles or so.

My dealership in Wichita ks used to give loaners while cars we bought new from them were in the shop... They won't even ask if we need a loaner now and never have one anyhow... Now, they rarely answer the phone... Something is going on with Hyundai and their dealerships... Long long long delays for service and parts prices are astronomical lately... I need my car for work. My wife needs her car for work and kids. I'm using my ancient Mazda 07 CX-7 I never thought I'd be driving again but kept it just in case we had another car die on us for a backup since it was cheap to insure and just park in the driveway (paid off cars are hard to just get rid of sometimes, glad I didn't) ... It's got issues too, but it still drives unlike my Palisade. Crossing my fingers it stays alive long enough to get Palisade returned to me... Dealership wants me to pay $200 to diagnose the trouble since I've got 78k miles on it... I thought it was covered for 100k since I'm there original owner... Pretty upset with this car and local dealer but whatever, just figure out why it's burning oil and if it's a manufacturer defect, which it certainly sounds like from all the other similar complaints I'm hearing, then I expect Hyundai to do the right thing and warranty it and repair these cars. I've been promoting Palisade to everyone for almost 4 years now with positivity. It's a great car otherwise. Just started having engine issues around 50-60k miles that get worse over time. Only other major complaint I have is the 2020 USB power ports in car, while very conveniently placed, only pump out 1 amp and that's not enough to charge most modern phones unless they're turned off and slowly charging... My phone actually drains slowly on long car rides we take to Colorado so I have to bring an inverter with me to plug into the round dc port to use my inverter for laptop charging 120V.. it has a set of USB charge ports too and cranks out 3 amp availability so it keeps my devices charged just fine... Basically saying the cars USB ports and inverter built in are under powered and worthless... If I could find a wiring diagram I'd just replace the electronics with my own to power the ports in the car... But otherwise, very nice car... I have limited 2020 with Napa leather, tow package and just about every feature before they came out with the calligraphy version... Love the comfort... Hate it won't charge my phones and that it's burning oil.

I’m going through this exact same thing! Bought new from dealership. Lots of rattling under the car. Brought to dealership and they said oil was almost empty. No warning lights. Had oil change done. Fast forward and I’m coming due for regular oil change as per dealership. Palisade started making the noise again today. Stopped, checked and again, no oil left. How is a 2020 burning through oil this fast?! I’ve had nothing but issues with it. Transmission replaced at 70,000km (43,500 miles). 4 or 5 ignition coils replaced since I bought it. Car would stall in heave rain. Alternator replaced at about 85000 km (53000 miles). Shocks are gone and being replaced later this week.

I have a 2015 Kia forte five SX that’s turbo and it does consume oil I have over 160,000 miles. I get under my hood once a week to monitor the consumption and I gotta say maybe to just keep the oil level topped off, I consume about a quart a month. I have no mechanical issues with the engine. It runs smooth, but I am a person who gets under the hood at least once a week to monitor anything related to this oil consumption I kind of suggest that’s a good thing to do especially if you have a Hyundai, especially if it’s turbo.

My wife’s 2020 Palisade had 70K miles when it started having issues. Did an oil consumption test (laughable procedure to that by the way), and found it to burn “on average” a quart every 1100 miles. However, in one of the 1000 mile intervals, it burned 1.75 quarts. Hyundai disregarded that number, and instead would just divide 3000 miles by the volume oil consumed during the test. So in roughly 5K-6K miles, her car burns every drop of oil in it….but yet the manual states you can go 10K miles between oil changes. So far, Hyundai states her vehicle is operating within the normal specs, and doesn’t want to replace the engine.
@CoderMan
@CoderMan 2 ай бұрын
Same for us, 10k interval would mean no oil. Seems Hyundai is just weighing the cost to replace over any lawsuit. Hoping Consumer Reports will pick this up.

@@CoderMan Hyundai approved a combustion chamber cleaning…seems to have helped a little. 2100 miles on it since the cleaning and it’s not down 2 quarts like before. The dealership over torqued some bolts for the valve cover or head gasket and broke them so it leaked oil and went into limp mode 100 miles after the cleaning…but they’ve fixed that.

Another victim here. Just discovered this on our 2020 at 62k miles. First symptom was a rough idle when coming to a stop and an intermittent rattle at slow speeds. Start/stop feature hasn't worked in a while, but I never liked it anyway. Thought it might have "learned" our habit of always turning it off. I finally checked the oil and the dip stick was dry. It took 5 quarts to get back to full. Have an appointment in a couple weeks to have the dealer look at it, so thank you for documenting your experience so I know what to expect and what to ask. One thing I am struggling with is the fact that no light/warning ever appeared, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to monitor the oil pressure. Do you know of an oil pressure gauge on these? We just paid this off, so we are leaning towards keeping it a while and monitoring very close to see how it goes. We really like it otherwise.

All of these problems started when Hyundai switched from EFI (electronic fuel injection) to GDI (gasoline direct injection) on their engines to improve fuel economy very slightly. I have a 2009 Hyundai Genesis V6 with EFI and it has never used a drop of oil the entire 15 years I have owned it. Dipstick always shows the exact same level as right after an oil change. I use Mobil 1 EP 5W-30. If my engine was using an excess amount of oil, I would switch to a High Mileage Full Synthetic 5W-30. If that didn't work, I would switch to High Mileage Full Synthetic 10W-40 (or 0W-40).

@@CoderMan agreed - Hatchett Hyundai East in Wichita KS told me they went ahead and did an oil change - before the tech looked at it to mark or prep for a consumption monitoring test of some sort - so they have no answers for why or where it is burning oil. Then they said the check engine light was related to a transmission error - but instead of testing the transmission all they did was clear the code and it came right back. Their recommendation - flush the transmission fluid and wait to see if there is another error... sorta sounds like they are throwing darts with blindfolds on instead of following manufacturer recommended procedures. I asked what the mfgr interval is for transmission fluid and they said 100k miles but they like to do them at 60k miles. I have 78k miles now. @hyundai does not seem to care anymore. We have a Palisade now, prior we had a 2008 Veracruz which had 3 government recalls for oil leaking onto the alternator. From what I've read in the forums people mentioned the same symptoms you did, in regards to the veracruz, and the recall was due to the possibility it could stall while driving. Anyway you seem pretty mechanical as I watched your brake video first so I'm guessing you already made sure it isn't leaking somewhere as opposed to burning the oil. Regardless maybe you can file a complaint with the consumer protection agency. There is no reason a 50k car should need oil every thousand miles. Also should mention our Veracruz had the leak and we never had oil on the concrete below it. Not sure how.

I hope this doesn’t happen to mine but I’m very meticulous on Maintenance. I hope you post what the finding is but I’m guessing it’s going to be piston rings.

2021 Palisade. Purchased 3/2021 new. 35,180 miles. Change oil with severe service schedule (3,750)(frequent short trips, cold weather climate, dusty roads). Always use factory filter (26320-3CKB0). DYI. Data below: #1 Amsoil 5w30 OE synthetic. 0 quarts added #2-8 Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic. 0.75 quarts mean average added between changes # 9 Amsoil 5w30 OE synthetic. 0 quarts added #10 Amsoil 5w30 OE synthetic we will see (just did it today), but plan to always use Amsoil as long as I own it. What I have learned: 1.Check oil frequently because if the oil level drops, the consumption rate will increase because the remaining oil will tend to have higher volatility - if you check your engine oil after check engine light or it is knocking you have probably already destroyed your engine. 2. Use high quality oil with a good NOACK Volatility Test (ASTM D5800) - like Amsoil. 3. Use severe service schedule (read your manual and it tells you what severe service schedule is - hint - it is almost everybody)

Do cars sometimes not have dipsticks now? I’ve never had a car without one (owned Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, Chevy, Dodge, Mazda, Nissan; but only Toyotas and Hyundais post 2000). Our Palisade also ran dry with no warning lights with similar stalling-or-nearly-stalling behavior at low RPMs. Crazy.

Having the same issue with 2020 palisade 89k miles. Took a road trip last month for TG I checked the oil before leaving (I was under the mileage for next oil change also). Dipstick was dry. I once changed the oil on my wife’s 2020 and a week later I checked the oil level before a trip and it showed bone dry, I thought to myself well that just can’t be since I changed it a week prior. I stopped at the store and bought a couple of quartz and through them in…pulled the dipstick and nothing. I still drove it and everything went fine. Did another oil change and drained about 5 1/2 quartz. I’m guessing the dip stick isn’t reaching oil pan for whatever reason

By the way this is true by the time you hit 7,000 miles you will have very little oil if any, my wife’s palisade does the same thing do your oil changes every 3,000 miles or sooner sheesh . One more thing well a couple, Hyundai recommends Quaker oil and you should check your oil level when the car is a normal running temperature so turn it on until it comes to normal running temp then turn it off let it sit for 5 minutes then check it on level ground.
