Its common practice to always change pads and rotors at same time or resurface the rotors. Never just pad slap, pads and rotors need to bed together for proper wear. Just take a nice size ballpeen hammer and hit the face of the rotor and itll come off. The most common premature wear of new brake pads is because no one services the caliper slide pins when changing the brakes. On those electronic calipers, in the professional world, if we cant access service mode, we just use a 12v source and jump the caliper to retract the piston

Thats good to know! Goes to show a real pro knowing vs chatting with dealer/others. I ended up greasing all the pins and the dealer did too (during bleeding) but I should have included that more clearly. I did try a ball peen hammer and it still didn't break free. Maybe I should have used even more force? Awesome advice on the 12v idea, that is why you're the pro and I tinker. Really appreciate the feedback and thanks for sharing!!

I never had electronic parking brakes before. I even asked a friend who is a mechanic and he never dealt with them either. I am very glad I came across your video. I could have easily broken the PB drive motor casing trying to force the piston back with the giant c-clamp usually use. Sooooo much easier with a 5MM allen wrench! Thanks very much!

Great video thanks for posting! You can back out the epb with a 12v source and a couple alligator clips connected to the spade terminals at the epb connector. Just switch the polarity if the epb turns the wrong way. New cars are getting way too complicated!

When compressing the piston DO NOT open the bleed valve to relieve pressure. It is a closed system so to relieve pressure just open the cap on the brake reservoir under the hood.

Those screws on the rotor are only to keep the rotors on while going down the assembly line. I don't use them as they are a pain for the next rotor change. Also if you're not using coated rotors apply a bit of grease to the hub face. Will prevent the rotor from rusting to the hub face.

I'm about to change the rear pads and rotors on my 2021 Calligraphy. The original factory pads badly groved the rotors (deep grooves) and one pad is wearing more than the other. I suspect the caliper slide pins were never lubricated from the factory

After changing all my pads now my brakes are soft and squishy did I do something wrong on the rear brakes?
@CoderMan
@CoderMan Жыл бұрын
That is a tough one.. If you have a soft pedal it's possibly because you introduced air in the brake system or installed something incorrectly. You could bleed the brakes but if you aren't comfortable doing so I would have a mechanic look it over. If it's unsafe to drive have them come to you or have the vehicle towed. However if it's right after install, pump the brakes a couple times (while stationary) and see if pressure builds up.
