For the rear with the electric motor on my palisade, I just took the motor off, only 2 Allen key heads, then used a larger Allen key in the center and gently tightened, it's on a bearing and requires zero force, used a c clamp to compress, swapped the pads, lube the seal around the piston, put motor back on, reinstalled everything, plugged it in and done. Took me an hour, for all wheels for 2020 palisade. Zero noise, super simple. Also I had parking break off when I did it.

Thanks for the info! Worked great on a 2019 Santa Fe, no scan tool needed! One thing I noticed is that the gasket between the EPB motor and the caliper is an o-ring. I found it easier to reattach the motor by seating the o-ring into the caliper groove first. 👍

Open the bleed valve before Compressing the piston as not to damage abs. Plus it drains spent fluid. No hassle with air in the system either.

Thank you for this! I just did 3/4 brakes on mine the last (passenger side rear) spins endlessly so I can’t get it to retract. Had to go to work I’ll finish up later, have any ideas why it wouldn’t retract so I can push in the piston? The driver side rear was smooth it’s just rear passenger.

Kia’s answer to the parking pawl not holding is to force the parking brake to engage EVERYTIME the car is parked. If in park, engine running and door opened, the brake is set.

FWIW, if at all, for the 2016 Sorento with EPB, another video specified to turn the mechanism 5mm screw counter-clockwise to retract/disengage the parking brake cylinder. It also specified to turn it clockwise when done to re-seat the parking brake cylinder. Have you replaced pads on a 2016 Kia/Hyundai with EPB? I ask because based on your video and the other I saw, there may be differences in the procedure.

Why did you apply the silicone grease under the clip on the carrier? You need to put it on the clip where the pads slide.

I am not sure about the sizes of the fastener or the mechanism, but if it has an electronic parking brake, it should be the same process.

It took a 5mm. allen wrench to remove the cover and to turn the screw clockwise inside the mechanism!!!

Nice vid ! After unscrewing both bolts , my calipers still won’t come off ? Any reasons why ? I did hear you mention something about making sure the parking brake is off but i’m not sure what you mean by that . I have to park the car in order to work on it .

Yeah all i did was push the piston back in with a screwdriver. I kind of used the screwdriver to act as a pry tool and i angled the screwdriver in between the gap and i push the piston back in . The piston will only go in if the parking brake is off . To turn that on/off go inside the car and hold the parking brake button.

The car is in park yes, it's the parking break so you have no resistance when tightening the spindle when you remove the motor. You can almost do it with you finger, I used a Allen key and did it gently. Took 15 seconds by hand since there is no resistance

The EPB piston has indentations on each side suggesting that it should be wound, not just pushed straight back. Can you comment on this? From the video I get the impression that if could can physically just push it straight back, that means it doesn't need to be wound. Is that the only way to tell?

That's a great question. I have done quite a few that have the indentations, but they still push straight back once you have retracted the mechanism all the way first. I think the indentations are intended to line up with a small part that sticks out on the back of the brake pad to prevent the mechanism from spinning freely against the back of the brake pad when it is applied. @@DantheFixitMan After watching another youtube video I think I know the answer. When you use a rewinding tool you are retracting both the piston and the motor at the same time. This eliminates the need to do the battery method or dismantle the motor to retract it. If you use the battery or dismantle method, all you are retracting is the motor. Same with service mode. You still need to push the piston back in, which you can push straight back since the motor is already rewound. This video explains it all. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZSvq6CurpeFr68

@DFWAuto_Hack I removed epb motor and pressed piston normally with screwdriver . When installing epb just make sure to turn motor gears ⚙️ use 12v power to make it turn or pliers you can damage gear ⚙️ if using pliers good luck use what ever easiest for you
