I have run a company in this space for roughly 20 years. I started trying to do what you are describing and quickly found that there are really 2 types of clients. One of them wants a site as cheaply as possible and has a budget of maybe $2-5k. They want the world for that money and you will make nothing. The other wants a full blown agency and has a budget of $50k and up. We now focus exclusively on the later. Don’t chase the small projects or you will go broke competing with overseas companies.

As the owner of a brokerage and the owner of a video production company I have no idea how anyone would be turning a profit offering to shoot videos for $100. Let's assume you already have the $2,000 drone and $1200 iPhone. Let's assume it only takes 30 minutes to drive to a house and get set up. Let's assume it only takes 30 minutes to shoot (unrealistic unless its just drone), then 30 minutes home. Let's assume it only takes 30 minutes to import the footage and the agent makes zero changes to the final product (absolutely unrealistic). Under the most perfect assumptions you've now made $25 per hour. Take out tax, fuel, mileage, insurance...you could have worked at McDonald's for more money and at least got free fries.

Take the micro greens portion of the video with a grain of salt. Most states require you to get licensed to sell microgreens and even then you might be limited to selling to people in your own state. Since you need to get licensed, you’ll need to invest in your grow facility. Your facility will be under the scrutiny by an inspector. Your license depends on the cleanliness and safety of your nursery. You will have to invest time in making a facility. I should also note some states allow nurseries in residential areas but it varies by state and even local counties. It’s not impossible, but it’s way more time intensive than Codie leads you to believe.

These are great ideas. One issue worth mentioning as it relates to the the wedding rentals...it takes longer than "one hour" to set up a wedding arch and a 20 x 40 tent. Multiple people may be needed because these tents are heavy. Also need to consider the vehicle and trailers needed to deliver these items to the wedding site. My family runs a wedding venue and I can attest to this.

Okay but do the math on making 100k from 50 bucks a pop for video editing. That’s like 7.6 videos per day 5 days per week assuming you want days off. As a video editor, if you’re cutting together raw footage that you didn’t shoot it means you’re downloading and pre-watching all of the footage, finding a cohesive cut, color correcting and finding royalty free music, adding text and adding logos/intros etc then uploading and delivering. That’s roughly an hour of work per video if you know what you’re doing. And that’s assuming you’d be able to find an agent who has worked with a videographer who doesn’t edit their own footage. It’s usually a package deal and comes with years of experience and tons of equipment including drones for the shots you’re showing. That’s without the hours it would take to generate your own leads by personalizing emails. I love the information you’re sharing but this isn’t a realistic model if you are looking for high ROI. Most videographers make a decent amount but it comes with years of experience, investment in equipment, and is a hugely competitive industry. There’s not really a world in which you can just find 2000+ pre-filmed videos to edit per year in a couple hours per day. That number isn’t sustainable in this industry. If it’s that easy, the videographer is doing it and working it into their cost. A more realistic model would be to go on fiverr or something and offer up your editing services to videographers. But there’s also already a sea of people doing that.

I think you make some great points but you have to remember 100K a year isn’t made easily. I think you’re shooting yourself down before you’ve even had a chance to get up! Yeah, you’re no videographer but there’s a reason why there’s a sea of them. There’s always competition because people want to hustle. What you have to think more of is: how can I be the best and outsmart everyone else? Your solution of settling for going on fiverr says a lot more about you than what Codie’s advice does.

There is NO SUCH THING AS AN HOUR PER VIDEO. It always amounts to 4-7 hours of work usually sorting shots, graphics, animation, and with client back-and-forth making revisions it just doesn't add up. I've advertised in social media every possible way in my local market offering, free-one time incentives. Radio silence. When I worked at different TV stations cutting commercials for lawyers and real estate agents, it took 15 sales people to generate enough work for 2 editors per week. I've been shooting and editing for over 25 years. If its so lucrative, why did Sam hand over his business to go work for someone else. She's not paying him over $100K a year.

Put non competes in place and work really hard to find the right people. Churn is a part of business it unless you learn to let go of some of the work you’ll forever have to do everything yourself. I would consider a non-compete agreement so they cannot steal your clients. Have a contract where they pay you for backing out of your agreement to service the leads. I would use more than one subcontractor and the best subcontractor gets more leads... but I keep searching and trying out subcontractors. ALSO... I would have my best subcontractor do the first couple of jobs for a new client and then I would try out a different contractor on that account. I hope that helps with giving you some ideas.

So the area I moved to, if you start a window cleaning business you’ll be the only 1. No worries about being on top, with pretty much anything, there’s at most 3(besides hair salons). I own a commercial building that’s empty. I don’t have any money to start anything but I’m ready. The business here doesn’t use the internet or hashtags. I’m in Manistique Michigan. We don’t even have a regular coffee shop and no Walmart or target or anything of that nature. I came from a wealthy family, money in probate now BUT I look around and see dollar signs. Right on Lake Michigan, it’s a gorgeous tourist town.

As a florist, I love your ideas on hiring out wedding arches, but your pricing seems to be ... off. For instance, I just checked, and one very basic pop-up marquee that's just a frame and a canvas roof, 6 x 6 metres, is $4,395.00. Your visuals show something about $20 grand, and it would take a lot more than 1 hour to set up, surely. You also need a van or trailer to transport arches or tents. A decorated arch, without flowers, is about $200 to hire. I don't know *how* you'd get $1500 per wedding - without flowers! I really, really want to know, though!

You are on the hook for medical expenses and personal injury claims. California and other states have laws on workers are employees. Employment taxes additional expense.

I think that best way to start up with low costs is to take inventory of what you already have. Tools, contacts, skills, resources, talents. Put them all on a white board and see where your resources can fulfill a need. Step two make sure your idea fulfills that need. I would make “burner” calls selling my services. I would call businesses outside of my service area to practice my pitch and see what questions come up. Take notes and adjust your pitch and start selling in your area.

The best thing I did when I started Handyman business was take property management companies as clients. It takes a little longer to get paid and the downside is you have to cover all costs. At the very end of the day it’s a guarantee pay day. I recommend diversify them as a source of a revenue and don’t rely on private customers 100%. It allows me to pick and choose private clients and weed out the difficult customers.

The problem with subcontractors in the service industry is you don't have control over the workers. This can become very problematic and if things go wrong, it's hard to maintain or save the client. It's not a bad idea, but also not a great idea. Codie Sanchez in this video doesn't go over the cons on this issue, I feel if you don't give out the cons you are not being transparent on the window cleaning business idea.

That was my concern - it's just not accurate to claim you'll never have to work with the client directly. For that Handyman business for example, which I do think is great. But you will have to handle each of those clients one at a time & make sure the work is done not just properly, but outstandingly well for you to grow. So now you're handling sales, customer service & managing "staff" even if they are outsourced, you'll have to micro manage each job for at least a while because it was done under your business name. It's still a great idea, but all of these are much more work than is being expressed here.

At first I started with 5 guys, I felt confident bc my cousin is my business partner and he knew how to do the job. I had no clue what I was getting myself into. For the wedding arch business, it's important to factor in how you will transport your arches to your job sites. If your car's not big enough to haul them then you'd need a trailer and assuming you don't already have one, the start up cost for this business would be more than $3K. Good business idea, but it definitely costs more than 1-3k to start.

As a microgreen grower, I have to say Jonah is the MASTER of microgreens and his course is definitely worth taking! (no, I'm not an affiliate or anything, I just found his course very helpful) Also, you should really learn about marketing in the farming space to do well! It can be very hard to start up and scale if there's not a good market or if you aren't good at selling them!

The micro greens actually take 7 to 10 days to sprout from time they are planted. So you would have at least two harvests, possibly three in thirty days.

Way too easy to kill people because sprouts and micro greens are prone to pathogenic bacteria growth. This is not a business for a non-farmer/non-food industry to start, at least not without tons of research, oversight and liability insurance. The micro greens will also need to be refrigerated at some point which was not mentioned.

As was mentioned by another, you have to also consider food inspection and insurance. Microgreens are at risk for bacteria; hence, knowing what you're doing and following growing and hygiene procedures

On the microgreens part, recommend Donny Greens to reference on KZbin. Also some not so obvious things, watch your humidity levels & airflow (easiest way for illnesses), & watch market opportunity (farmers market may end up good for advertising & transitioning to direct to consumer more sensible). This from an ex-farmer & gardener who for a time dabbled in micro-greens.

I have micro greens. The farmers markets wanted $400-$700 a week for a stand. I tried advertising in a small paper that was $100 a month. I tried word mouth and Internet and the cost to deliver them all over the county, it just wasn’t worth it, I’ve had a maintenance business for three years now we’ve tried Angies List and other things unless you can do a lot of construction trades which I can’t do by myself. The jobs are just too big or they’re beyond my scope of experience. You’ll have a hard time doing small jobs unless you’re in a very dense populated area, I still do handyman business, but only on the weekend by word-of-mouth advertising too expensive and has not paid for itself in the area. I’m at.

the bad part of the handy man option is that where your example is located (Seattle as am I) does not have a "handy Man" class license for res or commersh jobs. Leaving you to get a Contractors license in either on or two specialty area or a full on General Contractors license, all these require bonds and insurance, hense nearly 10k start up. Im not dogging this list i love the channel and all the info I just live here and have been on this road as I am a carpenter and work loosely around licensed req. projects lol. no insurance\warranty agreement with the client is a good back door!

@codiesanchez, quick question about the video editor gig, so let's say you only charge the client $200.00 USD per video job according to your video you would need at least 50 jobs in order for you to get to the $10,000/month income and you need to to get at least 13 jobs per week or 500 jobs per year in order for you to reach $100,000/year of income, which is a tall task to do every year.

With regards to the cleaning business, how do you build a brand when the sub contractors are showing up for work with their own branded vehicles, will this not confuse the customer. Also whats stopping the customer from building a relationship with the sub contractor and cutting me out of the deal? It shows the value of experience. Micro green do not grow under stairs, there's a whole ecosystem you have to build not just lamps but venterlation. The most important part is timing with your client base. Video editing is a super low profit business mostly outsource to india. Who in their right mind pays $2500 to wash a fence. Come on, its like $5/m2 so that's like a fence that 250m long. Profit is super low.

Folks, I can’t stress this enough. Do your homework before starting a business. These KZbinrs mislead people. If you are doing a window cleaning or handy man business, you need to make sure you have the proper insurances if you want to go after businesses. I run a business. I have to have $1 million in liability. That’s about $100 a month. My commercial vehicle insurance for an 8 year old truck is $6700 a year here in Florida :(. And that’s not even counting my trailer. One of the first quotes I got was for over $10k for a year of vehicle insurance. Commercial is very expensive, even if you have a good driving record. As for subcontractors, if you do use them, they have to be insured. If they damage anything at a property, guess whose ultimately responsible, you are. If you are looking to start a business, do your homework. Get quotes and figure out cost involved. Don’t just listen to these KZbinrs with these clickbait videos.

Many people with chronic illnesses WANT to work and need doable ideas for work. This includes people with sensory issues (especially to lights or sound), mobility issues, or chronic fatigue. I know it's more challenging to think up jobs like this...but that's why we need a professional to suggest some! Love her mindset and love her passion but starting up a window cleaning/pressure washing company costs at least 4k plus to start depending on if you already have the vehicle for that type of business and what marketing strategy you are going to use. Plus gas expenses and maintaining your vehicle. Then getting a business liscense/LLC. But with that being said its still not a heavy cost to start up and start earning a good income. With all this being said I love this video!

WE need a truck to carry the ladder, but he biggest problem is getting paid by the people you subcontract to. (Been there done that) This is a situation where we need to collect the cash and get discounts on the service so we hold the money and make sure they schedule the work when the client wants it. Insurance is a big thing too. These people doing the work need to be licensed and bonded and not people standing around at the Home Depot parking lot. In crazy CA here, anything over $300 needs to be a written proposal,

Sell the leads. Or collect the money & pay the contractor not other way around. Example. I recently paid Price line about $510 for a hotel stay at hotel up block from the one we wanted. That hotel issued a refund… so Price line could let us rebook. I overheard that hotel on the phone w PL refund $369.00 Price line probably made the difference! Maybe you can too….😊

All good until the company you subcontracted reaches out to the job contact, undercuts your rate and takes them away. And to sell a service business you better have a bunch of contracted work or recurring clients. The possible exception is if you are doing a rollup into a company you already own.
