In honesty, it is similar to a barebones assembly language. subleq and mov are both turing complete and 1 command. I know a lot of people that use brainfuck as a temporary backend for compilers in development. Some people can write brainfuck just as well as assembly. I know a person who has been using brainfuck for fun for >25 years. esolangs that use non-determinism or encryption like malbolge are much more difficult than brainfuck. brainfuck is essentially just a turing machine. It even came from a research paper on how to build a turing machine as a minimal programming language.
