Loved the video for the entertainment, as always. HOWEVER, for anyone who might see this and seriously consider using mayo as thermal compound...DON'T. This concept was tested back in 2011 by Hardware Secrets, and they determined that yes, mayo does work well as a thermal compound, but only for a short time. Its performance degrades after a couple days. At the end of their 12-day test, they noted significant oxidation of the CPU lid. Who knows what it would do to your CPU or motherboard over a longer period. Mayo basically works as a thermal paste because when heated it reverts to being mostly a thin oil, which fills the voids and provides a pretty good thermal transfer interface. The downside is that it also contains lots of organics (eggs!), so it deteriorates quickly. Part of what makes a commercial thermal paste "good" is its ability to retain a stable viscosity over long periods of time, and during multiple heat/cool cycles. Mayo(nez) may be delicious, but it's not known for thermal stability. ;)

The only thing i worry about using mayones is animals like ants, mouses, and gopniks, will be attracted to it.
@josequins90993 жыл бұрын
You can keep gopniks out of your computer case by playing American pop music. This does not work on ants and mice though.
@De1tAStreaM3 жыл бұрын
Same problem when you use tooth paste instead of thermal paste. ants are not a problem they stay away from the heat but small lizards or roaches tend to come for the heat then get electrocuted and die near the processor fan. The solution to that is make sure the casing does nit have unwanted holes or when breaking the hard drive rack make sure you seal it before you close it.
@whoami14493 жыл бұрын
@@De1tAStreaM tooth paste? People actually uses toothpaste? Man i have to get into these pc build thing and stop using this potato with a screen.
@De1tAStreaM3 жыл бұрын
@@whoami1449 well yes tooth paste is very good liquid to trap heat quicker and expell. It's ine of the things you pick up when you do electronic engineering. We actually found out it's extremely useful when we were constructing embedded systems. Due to the cpu of embedded system sizes being small when you maximize memory usage you can see max heat go upto 70- 106 °C in which thermal paste doesn't help (it actually makes it worse as it adds yo more overheating).
@no_42593 жыл бұрын
If you worked with used electronics before, you probably already know about those horror stories where a console or PC becomes a nest for cockroaches or mice. It gets worse with mice if they get defensive or if they decide to bite through cables.
