Raghu gives a very good reason why everyone should learn how to code. Just imagine what kind of solutions people in other disciplines would build if they knew how to code. Very inspiring indeed.

This was a great talk, and I strongly agree with Raghu that coding is the new literacy. I believe that his dream for universal knowledge of coding is not only a way to help people realize their own ideas, but could actually be a driving force for a more just, democratic, and more open Internet. When the majority of the internet's population spends a significant part of their lives in a foreign environment, yet have little understanding of how this platform functions, the result is almost an aristocracy in its separation of the masses and the elite "professional programmers and those who can pay them," as Raghu puts it. By educating the population of the internet in it's language, the internet becomes more of a level playing field, bringing us closer to an internet that is a network of people, not an elite few supporting _and_ controlling the masses.

No you absolutely dont need html if you dont wanna go into websites. html doesnt teach you anything about coding in other languages, as its not even a proper language itself. start with python or java, theyre high level enough to not be too complicated and they show object oriented methods very well. on top of that, theyre also used in actual industry

He learned ruby on rails. Almost 10 years later Ruby on Rails is still strong, and sites like Airbnb and Groupon are built on this framework.

I also think that everyone should be taught how to code in school since we interact with computers as much as with people
