Awesome video. Glad to finally see some informative Vision Pro content that isn't loaded with "lol look at all this silly stuff I can do on a plane" and "omg this is kinda dystopian". You just keep it professional and tell it how it is. "This is how you can actually use this device as more than just a novelty toy for some clickbait videos."

thats exactly why I made this video! figured that some people out there would enjoy a much more detailed look at the features that make the AVP such a good productivity tool :)

What I like most about this video is that it shows the complete workflow of a software engineer. All the other videos have people talking about how they feel. I wanna see what it's like to participate in the software engineering lifecycle. Grab issue, read code, research solution, craft new code, test, deploy... you got it all here which is why this video is great. Thank you and I wanna see more!

wished Apple would offer multi window solution though for macbook screens. disadavante with 1 giant screen is that you cannot use the edges of the screen very well maybe?
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
so, yes, it is kind of a matter of personal preference? I know some people that swear by having lots of smaller screens over having one larger one; I am much more of the one-large-screen camp, which is why I like the Mac Virtual Display.... I will note though that you can sort of replicate the multiple-smaller-screens approach using the built-in AVP apps (which will increase in number over time), and a nifty little thing called Code Server, which I'll be releasing a video about hopefully soon :)

IMO, with the dual loop band? yes, 100%. the solo knit loop is unfortunately just not comfortable for any extended period for me. I've does several hour coding (and editing!) sessions at time without needing to feel like I need to take the AVP off to relax, with the dual loop band on.

Question: Is there a feature that indicates where your eyes were looking during screen recordings? Kind of like showing the location of taps in phone screen recordings. Having watched multiple demos now, the way the screen is foveated (thus out of focus depending on where you look) is ever-so slightly frustrating as a secondary viewer. But I think it'd help to know where the original viewer was looking at the time of recording. That way my eyes can kind of follow along with theirs to see things more sharply focused.
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
so, that's actually a great question, and unfortunately I don't think its a feature as of right now? I know that eye tracker software on PC can have an overlay in recording, but that doesn't seem to be something that Apple has implemented. This being said, when you use the native AVP apps, the AVP does tend to "highlight"/pop-out whatever you are looking at a little bit. its much more obvious in things like my unboxing video, where I used AVP Safari as a standalone app to try some stuff out. the Mac Virtual Display tech seems to just be a remote-desktop-esque system that doesn't support that kind of eye-tracking-cursor stuff, but hopefully the kind of tech you're asking about will come in the future!

nice video. You didn't mention comfort, which is something a lot of other users are complaining about. How long can you use it for before the discomfort level is annoying? And how long of a rest before you can reset this is suffcient?
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
that's a great question! I use the dual loop band because the solo knit band is (as other people mention) pretty uncomfortable... this being said, when using the dual loop properly, I've done several hour long coding (and editing) sessions without ever taking the AVP off, with maybe adjusting the straps once or twice. as for how long a rest? 10 minutes, tops? tbh, when I use it, I only ever take it off if I'm going off to do something else for a while ;)

Hi, great video! Do you have any info source for the 5K screen casting from the MacBook? Most the of other videos I watched claim it's only 4K, and 3K for intel MacBooks
@RGNetsInc
@RGNetsInc 2 ай бұрын
would be nice to have a close up screen shot or video of the resolution settings around 3:10 that way we can read the text
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
so, as @RGNetsInc kind of mentioned, I should've put a closeup screenshot of the resolution settings because the AVP's recording resolution is too low :P but this being said, my source is the settings menu telling me its 5120x2880 :) as for 3K for Intel machines, that I cannot confirm because I don't have an intel-based Mac anymore...

@RomeoGeorge70
@RomeoGeorge70 2 ай бұрын
True but also hard to carry around. The headset is more portable I think.
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
I've tried the multi monitor solution, and as I kind of mentioned at the end of the video (and as @RomeoGeorge70 mentions), the portability is just... non-existent. The setup required for the monitors and the cabling, etc., is just not feasible in a lot of travel scenarios, especially something like a plane. But yes, I do agree that the AVP is quite expensive. Hopefully Apple can reduce the price for future generations!

It's weird to me that the AVP has an M2 chip in it, but you still need a Macbook. It would have been killer to just have it as your compputer, with a paired keyboard and mouse. I think that is a major missed opportunity.
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
you can do that! check out this video where I do exactly that with a Magic Keyboard + Trackpad :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5ylg5-QeNx2prs

Also the keyboard will disappear, right? in immersive mode? Can you still code fine then?
@aidanlok
@aidanlok 2 ай бұрын
yes, the AVP does overlay the environment on top of my MacBook/keyboard, but I've found that it really doesn't affect me much, especially if I keep the MacBook on my lap. this being said, yes, you do need to know how to type without looking at the keys ;)

I've seen this mentioned elsewhere, and it's 100% true: AVP is not for everyone, just like iPhone is not for everyone. Apple's goal isn't, yk, to market to as wide a consumer base as they can, their goal is to drill down on the consumer base they *have*. yeah, an AVP is 7x the price of a Quest 3, but some people are willing to pay that! Meta's goal is the mass population, and thus we have a diversity of products, which is always good :)
@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy

@@aidanlok I'm a apple user, lol (but yeah you're right).. I'll probably choose Quest 3 because it has games and AVP doesn't.. I'm even considering PSVR2 now as it has more AAA games..

So far, it looks like AVP is more gearing toward the productivity folks comparing to Quest which is more into VR and gaming.
@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy
@ExplorerOfTheGalaxy 2 ай бұрын
@@karlkim yes, although more and more people are realizing you can do everything the AVP does for 1/10 of the price. The only downside of Quest 3 is the inferior mixed reality indentification of hands (barely noticeable) and the inferior image quality. But it can do way more things AVP can (as of now). Downside of AVP: users are reporting the plastic/glass is breaking (lol)..
