For the next year - sure. But IMO, as developers we can forget about coding (intellectually we won't be able to compete). We need to learn how to focus on translating the project objectives to the AI and let that do the heavy lifting. Maybe if you are a top-level engineer (and most of us aren't that), you may get a few more years - but that's it. Communication not coding is the future - but that's just my opinion. Either way - best of luck on your journey (it's both a terrifying and exciting time).

Seems to be an unpopular opinion but I'm not that impressed with it. Gameplay is very simple and I don't think you would need a whole day to code that. And even if you did, you would learn so much more and make the game so much better IMHO. Still might be useful for small boilerplate, even though I'm a bit skeptic😅

Try hitting CMD+I to try the composer mode. The composer is their "New" feature that allows for multi file editing in one shot. I've had mixed results with it being less reliable/buggy in some instances. But it's new, so probably being rapidly improved.

You might be underestimating the potential of AI and its development. The people training AI aren’t ‘garbage’ in fact, it’s the diversity of their approaches and perspectives that are driving innovation. In the same way that humans excel when they find creative or efficient methods to solve problems, AI is on the path to mastering this process. It will soon surpass us in areas where we rely on abstract thought, data cross-referencing, and even creativity. It’s harsh, I know but I’m ready, you should be too.

Cursor is a great tool. Buts its just that - a tool. Not a replacement. I view it like this: Spell check replaced our dependency on having a dictionary on our desk. KZbin replaced our need for buying books get an introduction into a particular subject (Not a replacement for books, just the intro) AI is replacing stack overflow (to an extent) I do not believe we, as developers, will be replaced by AI. It’s just another tool in our growing arsenal of tools.

It saves time when you need a rough starting framework to work with. It also saves time if you have very specific requirements, like writing a specific function. Anyway, it can do laborious tasks for programmers, which enables human coders to focus more on creative thoughts and overall architecture. I would say this thing is still far from being able to replace human programmers; instead, it is really a Swiss army knife for programmers to reach unprecedentedly high productivity and reduce eyestrain.

I know many many devs that hard disagree with me, but I think that what we are seeing is essentially the same thing we seen going from low level to high level language, exept now we are on track to go from high level language to almost natural language. The key is that you're still going to have to understand the core concepts, know what you want and how it should work, and maintain a certain level of skill to be able to go "under the hood" if you will. but to me this is the beginning of the end for the "Code monkey" position.

The problem is that when I followed like 30hours / lesson tutorial on KZbin about making side scrolling platform game, i had a game created on my own - with main character, enemies, platforms, parallax background, some skills, diamonds to gather ;) AND I knew how everything was done. Then, I put my own additional 30hours to completely replace basic assets, improve and add things i wanted because even if I was hmm "equipped" rather basically, I already had some skills, ideas and this belief that I can do this. AI is ok if ... you're a software enginner (doesnt matter, game dev, python, js, whatever) for 5-10 years. Then it'll help you. Maybe for learning purposes, it's also ok. BUT this idea that AI will do 90 % of job for you, hmm I don't believe it. I think that 90 % of current AI tools is total hype, cash grab, and soon will be verified by market. So, I don't even want to use them because 90 % of them will dissapear. ps. currently i see AI as just ... another stack overflow / google search etc.

nothing impressive about this to be brutally honest. I'm not that far into my programming career, but I have been a gamer for most of my life. I can almost guarantee you, no one is going to play this Cursor AI 'Mario Kart' game. and no, you did not build a Mario Kart game. That statement is borderline disrespectful to Nintendo. beyond that, AI is really useful, especially to learn about things we don't know about.

Entry level devs will become obsolete and the seniors will remain to run the projects and will be using prompt engineering to get tasks done faster. The new skill to learn will be prompt engineering IMHO, or machine learning/data science will also be the way of the future. But I'm just a crusty Ole Millennial so I don't know much lol.

A good indie dev could spin up a 3d version of this with multiple characters, online multiplayer, steam integration, and a functioning title screen in a few hours. You spent the better portion of an hour making a scrolling jpeg viewer. I can see this being fun for children, but even if you don't know how to code there are many better non-coding based solutions for creation these days. It's not even a good teaching tool either because there's no structure.
