I was there ! I was there ! With my best friend of that time, Steve Stevens. We were just 16 years old and amazed and baffled for the rest of our lifes ! Later, in 1988, I had the chance to work with DON for real and to accompany him to a concert of Ornette Coleman, his old mate. I will love DON forever §

1. September 1978, Jazzfestival in Willisau - Codona!

A saber.

I believe I am listening to Codona live...interesting how the recorded studio sessions come into play...an assertion within and against...What I mean to say is ...I can only imagine the actual live experience...Almost fifty years later ...and what does the music still say...amazing...just speechless....

I met Nana, Don and Collin during a soundcheck for a concert iirc little earlier before this gig, we burnt some when we heard steps in the long hallway leading to our door, my questioning look was unanimously replied by smth like "stay cool, no reason to hide what we do" ;) the "ceo" of the local concert series opened the door, rather instantly realized what happened and reacted quite funny: He played "oh, i forgort someting", turned around on the door threshold and closed the door, walked 4-6 steps, after some secs of silence returned to do the intended business talk, while showing no sign that he even noticed what we were doing :D Next moring they made a - for most members of the commune unanounced - visit to take the master tape with them, i wont forget the surprised face of my friend, still covered with shaving foam, when he realized who was coming through the door. Collin, Don and Nana certainly belong to the even cooler persons among the many cool jazz musicians which i met over the years.

What an amazing story involving beautiful souls now resting in peace! Thanks for sharing Klaus. Must have been an outstanding burning session. I mean, come on! Superlative coolness just imagining those guys passing it around. Hope all is well still at the commune.

Well Alejandro, the session was not excessive, more of a casual thing during the conversation, after all they still had to play short time after the soundcheck, however on the tape you can hear Collins voice announcing a "pause" to the audience and a second "pause?" when nodding to us at the mixer behind the audience, for a 2nd session ;) The commune has seen changes in composition before and after, until it dissólved ~ a decade later, people went into the isolation of a family :),fled the small town, etc. In any case, the encounter and the concert were both an unforgettable experience for me and i'm happy i was able to share a tiny part of it with you and other citizens of the planet, pretty sure that it is also in the spirit of the trio. A delayed Thank You! to BibiAudiofil2 for sharing this and the other 5 parts of a likewise wonderful concert

@@klaus_niemand Brother Klaus! Thanks for your reply. Oh boy, do I know those "pauses" during concerts ;) It's so cool to know you got to hang out and work with some brilliant musicians and artists, who we admire and love even though we never met them. Knowing about their burning sessions is just a quirky detail, a nice look into their relaxed, every-day personalities. They were just like us (plus the divine talent, that is!). Thank you for your story. Hope everyone that was ever involved in the commune is safe and sound, taking refuge in the solace of family and music. This concert has been a bliss for me for the past few days. Greetings from Colombia! And I'll join you in saluting BibiAudiofil2!

Thanks, Klaus, for your story! I used to listen to them gladly at the end of the 70s when I was a student in Ljubljana and was extending my music horizons pretty much. I woul also like to have had the chance to be in their concert at some occassion, but I think there wasn't any in Slovenia then. But nevertheless, I'm glad I can read now about your experience with those people. It's almost as I've been there, too. In some sense....
