Put some 12 UHDs on a tri pod last Saturday..was hunting Blacktail. Knew a buck went into a timber patch. Sat on him for 3 hours before he got up. Saw some does in there prior. Only picked up a rear leg and then his antler tips. Game on. Ended up harvesting the deer. All that thanks to putting the binos on a tri pod and patience. Appreciate you Cody and all the exceptional content. Blessings.

Man, we really need to see a head to head on the Kowa vs the Swaro compact spotters. I've heard anecdotally the Kowa 550 is actually a better piece of glass. Being lighter and having a better power range don't hurt its chances either.

Ya except it unfortunately has an old eyepiece built in with small 40 degree fov on the low end. Pretty bad by today's standards. It'd be much better if they used their wide angle 25-60 eyepiece. The swaro probably has slightly worse resolution but a much bigger fov and light transmission is around 90% vs 80 % on the kowas (which probably doesn't matter in real use...likely adds 5 minutes max). But the much easier view matters

If I may ask a question: does a longer scope have advantages compared to a short shorter scope? For example: a more 3D effect, because of the possibility to place the glass further apart? Thank you for all the nice and informative podcasts and articles!

Guys should look at the meopta s2 with 30-60 wide angle eyepiece with constant 66 degree fov. It's is awesomely high resolution and contrast. Super ruggedly built. Easily matches the more expensive swarovski atx 85 and 95 and smokes the ats 80. Also having a parfocal 66 degree fov makes using it so nice because it never feels like tunnel vision or like you are missing some fov with even wide angle eyepieces that don't have a constant fov

Great video guys, one thing that wasn't brought up was people with glasses. Is it better to set up your optics with glasses on or off. Setting up the eye cups. I've found it to be a challenge with some optics when setting up the eye relief. Most of the time I leave my glasses on even though it's a pain getting the lenses lined up.

Hey Carl! Cody Nelson here: That 100% depends on the person. But if you can get behind the optics without your glasses and focus you will generally have a better experience for sure. Better field of view and more true eye relief. Try it both ways and see what feels best!

I have a question. For backpack style elk hunting in colorado--generally thicker country would I be better off with the vortex razor 11-33 or viper 15-45? I would like a spotter that would be versatile for other species or locations. Thanks!

Hey Perry! This is Brady responding back to you. Great question. I have used the Sirui T-024SK with the VA-5 head for along time on bigger spotters. And the past two years I used that setup a lot with my Swaro 115 and BTX setup and it works great when you need to shave a few ounces. This past spring I switched over to the Sirui T-124 tripod with a VA-5 head mainly to have a tripod with a little more stability on those hunts where I’ll be glassing a lot in the wind, rain and snow. Both are great options and the weight difference isn’t that much between the two. I will say, that VA-5 head is phenomenal with a big spotter and the way I use it I haven’t ever seen the need to change that. Hope that helps! Very, very helpful guys. I am looking to purchase a new spotter for the 23 season and I am not exactly sure how I should go about packing it ? I have a MYSTERY RANCH Marshall that has those big long tubular compartments on the back. But I’m a little nervous about storing my spotter in those during a rough hike? I think I would almost prefer having it wrapped up with clothing or insulation layers in the middle of the pack and just have to dig through it when it comes time to set up the spotter?
