In this interview from May 2019, Cody Rhodes speaks to Chris candidly about the beginnings of his career in WWE and his gratitude for some of the professionals he was able to work with. He also speaks on his expectations of executives vs wrestlers within the professional wrestling industry. Cody Rhodes began his wrestling career in 2007 in WWE where he remained until requesting his release in 2016. He was amongst the founding members of AEW where he served as a wrestler and executive from 2019-2022.

@@Vic_Chaos_ His run with Goldust for the tag championships and the promo he cut when he got "fired" from WWE in 2013 is what first got me interested in him. I was at Wrestlemania last time it was in Dallas, and I saw Cody (Stardust), at the access event where he was hosting NXT, and in a match for the IC. He was good, but if you told me then that he would leave, eventually start a wrestling company that would rival WWE, I’d call you crazy. If you followed it up with him leaving that company, going back to WWE, and being the thing I’m most excited about at Wrestlemania in 2022, I might die of laughter. And yet, here we are…

@@TheexpendapleBlitz You can count me as someone who wants to see him excel in WWE, and eventually, if HHH truly no longer can or wants to run NXT, I’d love to see Cody there. When I saw him interacting with the NXT talent, you could tell that he had a passion for development, which obviously helped create AEW. NXT would be the perfect place for him to end up after he’s done in the ring, given he’s all about his father’s legacy, and (although we all immediately think of HHH and William Regal) Dusty is the father of NXT. And if Cody makes WWE better, it forces AEW to be better. In the end, we the fans win.

I hope Cody finally gets a run he deserves. No star-gimmick...thing...no face paint...just him looking sharp af, like in many of the AEW promo and PPV posters. He’s got a killer look when dressed sharp. Would be perfect for a heel run. Vince simply needs to put effort into the character development and not ruin his opportunities before it even begins show its potential to the fans. I really wish him all the best and that he shows up the main event WWE scene with a serious gimmick. I’d love to see a Cody reigns feud btw. But unlikely. Can’t wait to see what’s going on, finally!

I'm gonna bet its all a work. Cody in WWE, merely by his presence alone, warrants a conversation about AEW and other promotions from the WWE and the " WWE universe ". If he does well in WWE, good for them and for Cody - good competition, keeps aew on their toes too. If they handle him poorly, WWE loses even more credibility and perhaps a golden opportunity to one-up aew by booking one of the founders of aew better tham aew themselves. All in all, when cody comes back to aew, he's gonna be either the most cherished babyface or the most hated heel. Its a win win for cody and im impressed how he took a chance and bet his chips on this unprecedented 4D chess move. He risked it all, but if all things work as planned, he'll probably start the bidding war in a few years. He's gonna break that wwe forbidden door one day. Im sure of it.
