I've done the tent in a tent thing a few times and it works good. Laplander reindeer herders have been doing that for centuries and they typically just heat the inner tent with tallow candles and sleep on top of their bedrolls. Although with that trailer I would just set up a thrasher tent and move the bikes and all the other gear out into the tent and stay in the trailer. Tighter space but easier to heat and your heater should be able to keep everything from freezing up. A small squirt bottle with some 200 proof Everclear in it will defrost a lock quick. Putting a patch of duct tape or piece of a fire seal putty pad on the lock ahead of time would help as well. Ear plugs while camping? That's a safety no no for me. You need your hearing in case of intruders, human or animal and to detect other dangers such as a careless off roader bearing down on you in the middle of the night, fire or sudden nasty changes in the weather. A few seconds of warning can make the difference between life and death.

Your experience reminded me of one I had back when I was 9 years old. I was with my parents at their vacation trailer in northern Wisconsin in the dead of winter. It got down to -25 degrees F. The furnace quit working (number 2 fuel oil jells up), the car wouldn't start, and the old snowmobile wouldn't either. We were in the middle of nowhere and no one around to help. My dad didn't freak out, he just said, we will get this figured out. We still had electricity, so I held a hair dryer on the snowmobile carburetor to get it thawed out. Once we got that started, we drove 20 miles to the nearest town to get some number 1 fuel oil for the furnace. After draining out the number 2 and resupplying with number 1, we worked to get the furnace going. Then worked on the car (back when there was no fuel injection) and got it going. By this time it was close to midnight and our work was done. As a treat, my dad took me out on the snowmobile for a night ride and we parked it off a road next to a frozen lake and sat on a snow bank. By this time it was close to -30 degrees F. I was never cold. The night sky was incredible - the stars were incredible. My dad said to remember this night when I was 80 years old and he would be long gone, but I remember it all the time when the night sky is clear! I guess my point is sometimes you get put in a situation that is pretty tough, and you worry about how it will turn out, but you get through it and it makes some pretty big memories going forward. You guys are awesome!

For those cold mornings you don't want to get out of bed to make coffee, set up your stove inside the tent with everything ready to go close to the bed then turn it on. Get up when the water is done boiling. Instant coffee for when you want coffee in bed. ; - )

Milk is used for many food preps as Kelly would know , and the bread is sandwiches , French toast , dried for toast and gravy. Cody ,Try heating the key with a lighter and inserting into key lock , may have to repeat a few times , but it works, or a can of deicer if you can use it.

Great vid as it shows just how much changes as COLD WEATHER rolls in. Six minutes in, you can see that even as a young man.... he knows... that this is his responsibility. He is dead sober, highly focused, and on point. We, as males, instinctively know it. That now that emergency conditions are here, we have to take the lead. Like the alpha German Sheperd taking care of the pack. He's staying up and listening, on alert for what could change. You can bet that breakfast of waffles did them both a lotta good.

I went camping in Georgia (High Falls State Park)and it was in the 30s. the wind was blowing like crazy. Thanks for You tube a while back and thank God I remembered the tent in tent someone posted maybe a year ago. I don't know who you were but you saved a week end of camping. That was oh! my goodness that wind was crazy. It started out at 70 deg and dropped to the 30s. I did that same thing I went to Walmart and bought a large tent and put that 3 person tent in a 10 person tent and it was so warn using my little electric heater. I just wanted to thank however posted that and I hope someone else get to use that information. Yea! for girl power she never forget important things. Happy camping ya'll thanks for the repost.

But I also don't ever drink milk as I'm allergic . But I sometimes by bread just in case so I can make a sandwich if I may want one . We have a gas grill . So we can cook whatever we do have . My 3 kids use alot of milk. there are days when we go through 2 gallons and by midnight were on to the 3rd it really depends on if everyone ate cereal, made protein shakes, maybe pudding. There's alot of recipes that milk can be added to. Fruit is another one we go through alot of i can buy 6 bunches of bananas on Thursday and by Monday im lucky to get one for my oatmeal in the morning. Teens eat huge lumberjack amounts of food it never ceases to amaze me how much they eat especially when going through a growth spurt or involved in sports. Nut milks help substitute the whole milk as in our area it seems to be a bit cheaper then cows milk right now. Im in new jersey, usa.

I just wanted to mention I really enjoy your videos. If you get really cold in Winter camping there is a tent called, "Arctic Winter Oven Tent" will definitely keep you warm even if you were in Alaska. There is a place to put a stove through the roof and then you can also cook inside your tent. I watched information about this cool tent on another KZbin channel that I watch where they go camping in Alaska.

I remember camping with the kids on the beach in a rain storm. The winds were 40 mph and it was our first time camping, I camped when I was a kid but not as an adult. Our tent survived the storm like a champion. I stayed up a bit to watch, but took our heavy backpacks and out them inside around the sides to keep it from buckling. My youngest who was 5, was panicking but we helped him through it. He kept saying, our house is falling 🤣🤣🤣🤣 story of my life and couldn't record any of it. Well, I did get the rain and wind. My 11 year old and 18 year old are ready to do it again

I'd always wondered bout that. I bought a huge tent, and a smaller tent (to go inside the big tent) in anticipation of winter camping (not knowing if this theory would work, but trusting my logics that it would work, makes sense to me). Thanks for sharing. We are tent'ers, can't bring ourselves to buy an RV. Been shopping passively for years, everyone we see has at least 2-3 major drawbacks but so major that we just can't bring ourselves to "settle". About the only one we'd seen which is still a "settling" situation is the Pleasureway Tofino. We like the pop-top, the space to store our bikes, the fact that it's equipped to plug in (if we ever get a spot with plug in's). But we dislike/distrust the chassis (we'd been spoiled with workhorse vehicles which have always "been there for us" without us doing anything for it). If the Tofino were built on a Nissan NV3500, we'd buy it in a heartbeat and use that as our main vehicle. We rarely drive anyways, we are bike commuters and love it so much. One day without our bike ride, we find ourselves needing more coffee (grumpy grumpy). lol ... Love your videos. Subscribed.

Pre-ice prep...apply a strip of duct tape over your lock holes. Post-ice storm if locks where not prepped first....heat up your key with a lighter. Keep applying the hot key further and further into the lock as it melts it's way in completely. With the key able to fully insert, heat it up and place inside the lock a few more times to thaw things out enough to unlock. Once functional, apply WD-40 to displace the water.

Good to see you are pushing through the process. I’m like Kelly I don’t like to be cold. See you guys when it gets warmer.

Kellie, what about putting Cotton in your ears and spring earbags Bandless ear warmer/earmuffs over them. OR Sleep with Bluetooth wireless headband to try to drown out the flapping in the wind. You can get both of them at Amazon. Cody you and Kellie are living the life, be careful out in this crazy world. Love your show can’t wait for the next one.
